Discover has a process with Equifax that is not made aware to customers that involves additional verification. The process is handled by Equifax and a IRS Consent Form ****-C is required to be signed. I never received communication they claim they sent via email. They did not try other options to contact me ( phone, or mail). My account has always been in excellent standing. This has affected my scores and hindered me during a process purchasing a home. This is unacceptable and caused a great deal of stress!Business Response

I do not agree with the decision that has been made because my account should have never been closed due to no communication via phone or mail from Discover. I did not receive the initial request via email. Once I noticed my account was closed, I contacted customer service and was advised of the reason why. After calling several times and advising calling the BBB, I was advised my account would be opened immediately. Please correct the information for the credit bureaus records as well as mine to reflect the account status to never being closed. I received a text message at 2:30 am est on July 9, 2022 that my (new) account and all funds were frozen due to Suspicious Activity. When I called I was told that my accounts were closed as a "Business Decision made by Discover" - and that the agent could not speak to the outcome of the funds in my account at time of closure. My account had been open only a short time, I had deposited $3000 and transferred $100, had spent around $1000, leaving a balance of approximately $2000. No one could assist me, wait times were over 3 hours at the start of the security department business hours. After this, I did research online to find there are MANY in the same boat, all told the same things, no resolutions, no money released. Calls to security dropped at 3 hour ***** I spoke to 3 specialists today after calling the security line and being redirected. No one could give me any information at all. Discover has begun claiming they will release funds within ***** days (I have not been told this about my account.) So far I have found no proof of anyone receiving their money. Discover is rated very highly on NerdWallet and ForbesAdvisor. It appears as though since this began (looks like a few months ago) Discover has actively been pushing paid ****** reviews, paid affiliate reviews and articles in major finance media, etc making it hard to find evidence of this when you simply ****** consumer reviews. Not being able to access my funds, or connect to anyone at Discover who "can help" is causing a serious financial strain. I would like my money returned to me immediately.Business Response

7-7-22 I called Discover. I was told temp numbers will be provided w/in 48 hours of approval. Based on this info I applied. The next day I learned the application was made under false pretenses. I spoke to ******* who identified herself as Credit Operations Manager. I explained the situation, she refused to provide early access. As I needed to otherwise find a card I asked her to cancel the application before it became an account to avoid further damage to my credit. ******* assured me the application would be stopped, prior to becoming an account. She refused to provide written confirmation. I told her I would wait while she confirmed. She refused stating it end of the ********* was outta here. She would follow up w/ me tomorrow. By the time Friday afternoon came, I hadnt heard back & the application had not been stopped.I tried to reach *******. I spoke w/ ******* in the **************** who contacted her through company chat. She declined to speak. Hours later, still trying to prevent further damage but no longer asking for *******, she intruded only to back pedal w/o explanation for not stopping the application, as she assured would happen. Since she could not stop it, I asked her to overnight it once ready, allowing near the access I was told by Discover I would have. She refused ALLsuggested alternatives offered no solution to prevent further credit damage or help the situation. 2X provided false, detrimental information, I asked to speak w/ someone who could help, above her. ******* said she was the end of the line, there was no one in the company either above her or to whom I could speak. Then she connected *************************, as her manager.I asked ****** to overnight my card, she refused stating: had I never received it, or lost my established card, she could absolutely send it overnight and refused any assistance. She FIRMLY INSISTED SHE WOULD FOLLOW UP daily. The card is to arrive in 57 calendar days. Day 9. No CARD. NO Follow Up. No overnight.Business Response

I added a external account I have with my spouse to my Discover account. It issued a fraud status to the bank and they froze my account. Monday 7/11 I contacted the bank to let them know it wasnt fraud it was me. I verified several transactions and was told they would still reissue my account but I had to wait for all my transactions to finish pending. So I had to go three days without having any finances because all my money is in this bank. Wednesday 7/13 came and I called the bank back to see if the pending transactions had finished , to only be told my account had been closed ! Not only was my account closed but the money I had in the account was being sent in a check and I would receive it in 60 days. I immediately became frustrated because Ive explained to them I am without money because they had closed my account without notice after I confirmed it was not fraud on my account it was my doing of trying to add a external account I share with my spouse. So now not only do I need to open up another account with another bank because I do not trust this bank but I also have to get my direct deposit sent to another bank and try to come up with funds from family until I am paid again.Business Response

I set up my direct deposit with Discover bank I put in the wrong information by one number It has been an entire month and I still have not received my paycheck I have called numerous times they keep telling me different time frames when I should receive it but I havent The amount was $594.67 I dont know what the problem is and I dont know why they think that people can wait entire month without a paycheck their policy says that they send it back within 1 to 3 business days but they never did and so now I am stuck trying to figure out how to come up with extra money and having to take payday loans because I have been without a check for a month with inflation being high and the cost of goods and services through the roof I dont understand why I have to fight so hard for money that I have Earned every time that I call I am on the phone an excessive amount of time Discover has let me down every single time they say that someones going to call they never do they say that I should get emails I never received them I dont know whats going on but I know its really unfair that there is no one to talk to no one who can help me when you spent an hour on the phone I have a family to take care of and I have a job I cant really afford to keep making calls taking time from work and absolutely nothing is getting done if anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate itBusiness Response

I contracted a home installer Alliance Home Inspections to perform a home inspection around October 14th, 2021. This company charged my discover card for $550.00 and $1125.00 for the home inspection. I disputed the charges with discover because Alliance Home Inspections overlooked very obvious issues with the home during the inspection, which caused over $2000 in repair costs. These issues happened immediately upon moving in. Alliance home inspections refused to provide any solution after contacting them several times. Discover initially reversed the transaction while investigating the charges. I provided pictures, the home report, receipts and statements from my plumber confirming all the issues that were overlooked. Discover then allowed the company to charge me again 100 days later causes my card to completely *** and go beyond my limits. Discover does not support the consumer and has also increased my card limits 3 times in the last year after I told them to stop doing so. They provide lending at predatory lending rates that they changed and did not disclose to me. I have never had a worse experience with a lender.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:Discover has failed to review the situation in its entirety. They have simply decided to side with the merchant without property investigating. They stated that I would need to provide correspondence from the merchant stating a credit was due to me. This does not make any sense when I am trying to dispute the charges from the merchant for failing to fulfill their obligations as an inspection company. They did not provide a thorough inspection which resulted in thousands of dollars in repair costs. I disputed the charges, because the company has done nothing to correct their oversights and resolve the issue. The merchant has stopped responding and has never assisted in the resolution process. How can I provide correspondence if correspondence has since stopped? Discover has shown that it does not take its customers into account in these situations and clearly only cares about making money off of people they take advantage of through grossly high interest rates and by increases credit lines without consent. They have increased my credit line three times after I told them I did not want it to automatically increase. They are predatory lenders and charge rates as high as 20-22% interest. I will never use discover again and I would never recommend anyone use their services.
