My wife and I bought a car in November 2023. This past February we received a letter from "Sky Protection" claiming that we still needed to activate the warranty for our car. My wife called and provided our VIN # and was asked to make a payment of approximately $300 dollars. (the original letter attached)Fast forward to today, Thursday March 21st, and my wife realized that she has been getting charged a cumulative $800 for this supposed service activation. After asking our dealership and checking online, we realized that Sky Protection was actually a scam that never provided warranty. (screenshot attached). I ask that Sky Protection refund us the money that stole from us - happy to provide any additional information to facilitate that process. I appreciate your time,*****Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:The letter sent by the business was clearly misleading and obviously a scam. The letter states "Our records indicate that you have not contacted us to activate a vehicle service agreement for your vehicle." Clearly implying that there was a previous intention on our end to start a service agreement with the company. This letter is obviously crafted to target new car owners who are in the process of getting warranty protection for their car and finalizing their documents to trick them into believing they were already in the process on doing business with the company.
We expect a full refund for our payments.
Sincerely,

I was sent letters to my personal address that I received the week of March ***** (2 letters) claiming the car I bought on February 22 needed its warranty needed to be activated. I called the company and they told me the same thing that I needed to active my warranty and had information about it that seemed legit. I payed them $198.80. Gave them my card information that they requested. Afterwards I called my dealership and they told me that it was a scam and that my information was sold and thats how the 3rd party obtained it. I called back to the business to cancel my payment and they said they would cancel it and I would get a full refund in 5-7 buisiness days but I dont have anything in writing.Business Response

I have been scammed and was called by sky auto saying to activate my I need to pay them a ONE TIME fee for my warranty activation thats was said to be a one time payment at the time over the phone. At the time I just got a new car with a warranty from the dealer on it and I thought this is what they used but I have contacted my car dealer and he has told me Im being scammed. I have been charged almost 600 dollars over the past 3 months from this company. I have called them numerous times and they never answer due to my working schedule and the times I can call. I cannot afford to take another payment from this company I need these charges to stop immediately. I shouldve done this a lot earlier aswell but I never noticed the payments until about a week or so agoBusiness Response

In December after buying my new car with a full warranty from ******* this company with a professional looking envelope and brochure contacted me with details containing my VIN, name, year, make and model and warranty. As fast as you could send a piece of mail. The letter stated I needed to call and activate my warranty within a set time, or it will expire, so naturally I called. They had stated there would be a one-time payment to initialize my coverage, and I would be good for the rest of my warranty period. Then a month later I received a notice from my banks scam department declining another charge from them for the same amount. I was furious. Immediately I realized I had been scammed. So naturally I call the company, no answer on the phone. Call a few more times, no answers. How this company already had my VIN and my name from the dealer aggravates me to no extent. That should be illegal, and likely is. Highly predatory scammers.Business Response

I've several notices implying that the warranty on on my vehicle will expire which is far from the truth because I've never done business with this company. I do not appreciate the scam scare tactics and have no idea where they got my information from but if they do not cease further contact with me, I will be seeking further action.Business Response

Dec 23, Sky Protection (SP) contacted me by mail. The 1st sentence reads, "Our records indicate that you have not contacted us to activate a vehicle service agreement for your VEHICLE." I called and was told the issue was urgent, and if I didn't activate the agreement, I would lose the coverage on my ***** purchased Aug23. They asked me to confirm my VIN # and FL lic. The policy sent includes contract #SACCKY-464208 and the coverage reads "TOTAL EXCLUSIONARY-EXTENDED." Immediately after the initial call with SA, I had a bad feeling. I Googled the company, saw many scam warnings, and called ***** to confirm that SP is not affiliated with *****. I called my bank to stop payment. I tried to contact the company through their claims phone number but have not been able to reach someone who will assist me in canceling this policy. SA does not provide a customer support email address or phone number in their documentation or on their website (www.gotomycoverage.com). When I call the # on the original doc and ask to speak to customer **********************, I sit on hold. The day of the initial contact, my bank stopped payment and issued me a new debit/CC. On Feb 15, SA tried several more times to charge my account. I received a fraud alert from my bank. I contacted my bank again and stopped payment to the company listed as "Vehicle Warranty." I also requested that the bank not pay any company that tries to charge the same amount: $188.79. I received the following confirmation from my bank:We are writing to confirm your request made on 2/15/2024 to place a stop payment order on the check or preauthorized automatic payment (commonly known as ACH) listed below. Ref #: A404640222 **** $188.79 Payee: VEHICLE WARRANTY 2/15/2024 Feb 18 I called the same # I called on day 1 and had a heated conversation with a rep who said his name is *************. He said he couldn't help me, refused to document my cancellation request, refused to provide a ************** info for someone who can.Business Response

In December ****************************** pretending we already had business and that they were my new cars warranty provider. They were not and are not accredited, they must have bought this data, targeted me, and lied through mail advertising. They claimed I needed $199 one time payment but has been charging me monthly.Business Response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me as I confirmed the partial refund. However Im hoping this complaint remains visible to all others as the companies use of the term offer hardly applies to mail that feigns urgency using phrases such as will result in a lapse of coverage and activate before ____ date. Ironically this predatory mail did not use the term offer or sign up as that would notify the new car owner that this isnt their existing warranty
