I purchased a ********** through an appliance store which was delivered March 11. The first time the oven was used it produced what I can only describe as a noxious hot plastic-ammonia smell. Even small levels of this odor would cause headaches, burn the nose and throat and my wife even complained of tingling in the lips and mouth. I tried burning it off by running the oven empty at 400F or higher for at least 20 hours, including a self-clean and steam clean. This did not noticeably improve it. Near the end of the self-clean cycle half the house was literally uninhabitable and it took another couple hours with the windows open to improve enough to be in those areas. GE Consumer Relations (case # ********) agreed to replace it. The replacement is much better but we still have to open a few windows when the oven is used because the odor burns the airway and is extremely unpleasant. This is despite running the oven empty for over 10 hours at 400F or higher, several at 550F. This is extremely frustrating because GE downplays this and nobody can tell me if or when this off-gassing will stop. I asked Consumer Relations and all they would tell me is to schedule a service visit, but the two service visits I've already had didn't provide any helpful answers. They also told me "a smell is considered cosmetic and its not covered". We like the range otherwise, but unless this significantly improves in the near future I don't know how my wife, kids and myself can live with this.
Is GE aware of this issue, and how long is this expected to continue? This is information GE should be providing without a service visit. I know some people are more sensitive to this type of thing, but I find it hard to believe anyone can (or should) tolerate a noxious off-gassing like this. Some reports I've found online claim their GE range still produces this odor even after dozens of hours of use.Business Response

We purchased a café by GE appliance. The first is the 36 professional all gas range and the second is their fridge to match. We have a multiple occasions. Try to escalate to them to get both remediated as both have not been working for months. When you fill out the form to try and even get a service they're charging for transportation fee before they'll even come and look at the fridge and oven. The oven will work sometimes but does not heat up on every occasion to the temperature. It states it should and half the burner stopped working. The fridge has to be in a much higher setting to get a cool temperature. The filter works on and off and the lights keep going off.Business Response

Moved into a new home with a GE dishwasher July of last year. I have had GE technicians come out 4 times trying to fix a leaking issue but each time it ends up leaking again. This is unacceptable for an appliance (not cheap) in modern times. The dishwasher door was changed during the most recent repair but 1 wash later the dishwasher continues leaking from the left door seal. It should not take this many times to fix a leak, I clearly got a defective dishwasher.Business Response

I purchased my range in March 2025 and the knobs are now damaged and melted. I called to complain that this shouldn’t happen with a range I just bought and thought the know were stainless steel. I was told I can get new knobs for $20 which is half the price. I shouldn’t have to pay for a defective product. If I would’ve know these were plastic I wouldn’t have made this purchase.Business Response

I purchased a GE Range (GGF600AV1SS) from Home Depot in September of 2024. From the time of installation an awful electronic pinging noise emitted from its control panel. I thought maybe I was hearing things (new house), so I missed Home Depot's 48 hour return window. I initially resolved to fix the issue via GE/Bodewell's warranty in October but was not able to keep my appointment. Life happened and it wasn't until 3/25/25 when I had a technician come out and look at the range.
I showed him a video I took when the sound was very loud (it increases and decrease in intensity and is pretty constant). He took apart the back panel. There was nothing loose or broken, but he went ahead and ordered a new control panel. We made a second appointment for the installation. On 3/14/25 he came back for the install. He said that since our first appt, he found that (3) GE ranges have the same pinging problem. It is due to a faulty bulb in the electrical panel. The option given to customers is to install a new panel, which also contains the faulty bulb, or let them keep the panel in case for future issues.
I don't want a range that is constantly ringing. And I don't want another GE just to run into the same issue. So, today, I opened a case with Consumer Relations.
Nevertheless, a GE rep tried to gaslight me, stating that they had not received any work orders concerning complaints like mine. I couldn't even pretend to believe her statement, it was so incredible. So much so that I felt compelled to share a few stories of consumers who have gone through/are going through the same issue I am trying to resolve. The rep also fed me the line, "certain appliances just make noises." I had already had a qualified professional - from GE - to my home. He identified the issue...as a manufacturing defect that can be found in (3) GE range models. And, if you do a simple google search, it appears the defects go back at least (5) years.
I want a full refund so I can buy a silent stove.Business Response

Purchased a Cafe dual dishwasher for my wife. Since the first day we received it, it has never worked, never even finishing one wash cycle. I contacted Home Depot because it is obviously defective. Home Depot refuses to do anything about it. I took it to the manufacturer, GE Appliances. They have sent a repairman four times to replace the same parts. Throughout this process, I have been in contact to request a replacement unit. They refuse and have clearly warned that after the one-year warranty period, it will no longer be their problem. This company is ripping people off with this product and shows no concern for making things right.Business Response

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:
The company admits their unit has not worked despite two service calls and replaced parts. They admit that after the one-year period, they will not perform warranty repairs. Their product has never worked, and they refuse to issue a refund. They would rather waste time and have a technician visit every other month until the warranty period expires.

I am rejecting this response because: The unit was repaired two separate times before; there is no guarantee this will fix it. I would honestly want my money back for a unit that has not worked and has caused inconvenience to my family for close to five months. I do not trust that this unit will not break down after the one-year mark, and I will be out of options.

I bought a washing machine from Lowes, started having problems with it leaking oil, striping gears, sensor board gone bad. Called GE they send A&E out diagnose the above problems. Order the parts to repair and sent them to my address. Did not come back and I called GE they reached out to A&E who did not respond. G&M come out and put parts in washer. The washer does not work, called GE and they send G&M back out and he said nothing was wrong. When I try to wash clothes, only 3 inches of water runs in and it does not go through the cycle. Called GE back and they are not doing anything about the problem. I am an older lady who can not be loading buckets of water in the machine to have enough water for it just to wash but not rinse the clothes.Business Response

Th range hood damper makes lot of noise any time it's windy. The damper installed is not going to function as needs to it's design as does not prevent backdraft. GE technician and technical support agree that as per installation manual there needs to be another damper at the exterior but some people with GE itself who work builder as disagreeing with their own installation manual. I am rejecting this response because:GE didn't manufacturer the unit correctly and put it on the installer to fix the issue by adding additional instructions in manual. The builder is refusing to follow manufacturer instructions since it's against the code requirements. They refuse to acknowledge the issue with the design since that will cost them lot of money.

I am rejecting this response because:The technician staying the appliance functioning correctly is a lie. We bought a new washer and dryer from GE about 6 months ago. The washer stopped draining. I got in touch with GE immediately and they scheduled a repair guy to come. Immediately the repair person changed the appointment saying GE has no knowledge of their schedule. the company then called and asked if they could come to the house within the hour. We said yes, but two hours later they werent there. They offered no explanation and rescheduled the next week. THe next week comes, I take off work and they try to change the appointment time to when I am not there. When I say I wont be home yet they try to cancel. Finally they send someone and the guy comes in for 30 seconds and says they need to order a part. A week later the part comes in and they cant install it for two and a half weeks. I take off work again to facilitate that appointment. The company calls 2 hours before the appointment and cancels. They reschedule another week out and then tries to say they dont have time to install the part when they come. They were just going to leave it with me. I have spoken to GE twice. They have offered me a 50$ and a 75$ gift card for my trouble. We have been out of a washer for over a month for a family of 4. I have taken two days off work to deal with this. With my lost wages and the money we have spent at the laundromat, not even including the inconvenience, we are out over a 1000$ on all this. Everything about his has sucked and GE's little gift card I'm Sorry is completely not sufficient.Business Response

Back in December, my husband and I had purchased the GE front load washer and heat pump dryer combination. It was working fine until the end of February. when it stopped drying our clothes. I had to then take my money and go to a laundromat. It was serviced on March 4th, 2025, and it was working fine. For more context my husband and I searched up reviews and tutorials about how to keep this machine working at 100%. We bought a shop vac, as well as tape to line our lint trap so lint wouldn't reach the heating coils. The shop vac also needed a battery, and for added measure we bought lint trap cleaning tools. We went made a large effort to keep our machine in tact. So after he took a look to see why our machine wasnt functioning properly, he ordered the parts and came back on March 11th, 2025 to install them where needed. He also commented that he is constantly servicing these exact machines because no matter who owns one, they constantly break down in some way shape or form. It started to work again for a week. Then the same issue, I would come back to get my clothes and they would be soaked. Again needing to go to the laundromat. We have called home depot and we have called GE and the only way they will give us any compensation is to have a man look at and "diagnose" that it is unfixable. And even then, GE wont give us our money back, they will only give us a new machine. We want our money back and this machine taken out of our home. We ordered a new washer and dryer and EXPECT our money to be returned and the machine removed. They knowingly put out a faulty machine and still are trying to sell it to people. Once it stops working, they hide their hands and pretend they weren't scamming their customers. I will die on this hill. I will get my money back and the machine removed or legal action WILL be taken.Business Response
