My mom passed away on 9/7/23. She left me 314 shares of ******* stock transfer upon death which was held by Computershare. I had to jump through hoops to get all of the paperwork they required to get it transferred to me and sell it. The first big issue was finding a bank that would provide a medallion stamp guarantee. I had to open a savings account at *** and after six months, they stamped the Deceased Transfer Request Form. I spoke with Computershare several times about all of the paperwork/forms required because I had previously sent them a check in October of 2023 for $50 which they cashed but told me I didn't have all the forms needed so they just kept the check. I finally had all their requirements and all their forms on October 17, 2024 had their Affidavit of Loss Form said the 314 shares were worth $45.21 per share for a total of $14,195.94. The form said I had to pay them an $80 processing fee plus 3% of the stock amount ($425.88) for a total of $505.88. I double checked by phone before I sent all the paperwork about the amount and was told that the stock value was fixed for 90 days and everything was correct. I sent everything to them via certified mail on November 1, 2024. I received a check from them in the amount of $12,768.79, a difference of $1,427.15. I called them and they said the stock was now worth $40.8327/share and there was a trading fee of $52.68 which they had not disclosed. So, they lied about the price of the stock being fixed for 90 days plus didn't advise there was a trading fee. Also, I paid them 3% of a higher stock price. I should only have paid them $384.64 for the 3% of the now new stock price. The whole process was shady, fraudulent, misleading, uncooperative and disgusting. It took me almost 15 months to get this done because they were as difficult to deal with as they could possibly be. Everytime I called there was a new form or notary needed. This was a very hard time for me. They are unscrupulous in their dealingsBusiness Response

I dont accept their response. It is not true.
We specifically asked if the share price would change and therefore affect the 30% and were specifically told the stock price would be locked in for 90 days from our conversation. In fact, their 30% fee was based on the share price and value quoted on the phone Whereas, the value was lowered while their 30% was NOT why was in locked in for them. Plus, they did not inform us there would be an additional fee on top of everything else they overcharged. Stay clear of Computershare if you can. They win and you lose and make it painful at every step. Record everything because they lie. Good luck.Business Response

Again, this response is a lie. I was told that the rate was locked in for 90 days and they should have a recording. The 3% fee paid was base on the higher value and not adjusted down for the lower value they paid and the additional fee at end was not disclosed in conversation or writing. That is the truth. Stay clear of Computershare, if possible. Youre money goes down but theirs does not and be prepared for additional undisclosed charges at the end.**** D HavrillaInitial Complaint

I have been trying to deal with this company for over 6 months. My mother has stock that was purchased by another company. My mother has dementia and is living in a nursing home and I have her power of attorney. The stock is in her and my step fathers name, he passed away over 4 years ago. I have been sending documents and checks to them trying to have the stock put in my mothers name so I can cash it in for her health care and the continue to change their requirements everytime I send them something and request more money. I have jump through so many hoops trying to get what belongs to my mother and they just continue to change their requirements. at this point i'm thinking they are just trying to scam me. I've sent them $2836.40 already and now they are saying they need more.Business Response

My mother passed and when I called Computershare to advise them so that we could transfer her account (everything was in one account) into my brothers and my account and they sent the paperwork. I filled out everything got notorized what I could and it was impossible to find someone to do a Medallion notary so I sent them $50 to bypass the Medallion. I sent in excess of 20 pages of paperwork that they requested and a check for $50 to bypass the Medallion. Which they cashed. The Met Life Shares transferred and there were just 2 Brighthouse shares (total less than $100) that did not transfer. Their **************** was very hard to get someone to talk to when I called, when finally, I got someone they said they wanted another $50 to transfer those 2 shares even though I was advised that 1 check for $50 would take care of all of it. ****** the supervisor said she would call me back and no surprise to me she did not. This is sounding more like a scam to me.Business Response

Bounced check fee;Unknown to me Computershare sent out duplicate checks for the same MetLife dividend for $33.79. One to me as executor of my brother's estate and the other to the lawyer's office who had requested transfer of assets. I deposited mine into the estate checking account. It bounced and the bank charged a $20.00 fee. After talking extensively on the phone with Computershare on their mistake of issuing duplicate checks they would not make up for the $20.00 bounce fee!Business Response

On September 5, 2024: 279 *********************** (***) shares were successfully transferred into my name. In order for this to happen I had to submit several identification verifying documents including medallion stamped paperwork and social security information. On September 13, 2024 I decided to sell 79 of my 279 shares. This sale was successful and I received a check. It is currently deposited into my account. However, I am unsure if it will clear because today I called back to sell the remainder of my shares and was told I have a "stop trade restriction" on my account. I spoke with supervisor Takeem who had no detailed information but told me this is supposedly due to identity verification that is needed on a notarized letter..? Much like the other reviews and complaints you will see here, this is completely unethical and immoral behavior because this company wants you to remain a shareholder using their company. They have rendered me incapable of selling or trading $20,000 in shares. Their customer service agents either don't speak english, have no idea what's going on, or both. Moreover, this has nothing to do with identity verification. I have verified my identity through medallion stamped paperwork, postal mail, phone, and email already. This is a ploy to keep me from leaving the grips of their business and MUST be stopped. My next email will be to the ***. At this time I am requesting that the company lift the restriction and allow the sale of the remainder of my shares. The price of the stock is falling rapidly and I am losing thousands of dollars.Customer Answer

I put so much pressure on the business through the BBB, S E C, and State of Massachusetts Attorney General, that they DID let me sell the remainder of my shares. HOWEVER, they have no responded to provide any proof of the supposed fraud incident that caused my account to be locked. This backs my assertion that there never was a security threat to my account. They simply lock the ability to sell and restrict your account after you mention that you want to completely sell all shares. This is an unjust tactic to force shareholders to remain customers. This only benefits Comutershare and is an unethical business practice. See other complaints to confirm the same thing. I would like proof that my account was compromised if this is the case. This should be very simple.Business Response

At this time Computer Share has admitted to their wrongdoing by agreeing to send me a check for a whomping $96 - the rounded amount of money they claim I lost during the time that they would not allow me to cash out my stocks at a higher rate. However, they can keep it. Im not here for money. Ive already cashed out my money and will not agree to accept hush money for calling out their unscrupulous attempts to hold customers who want to cash out all stocks as hostages.
Please check all of their other reviews on this and all other rating sites. Any time a customer wants to sell all of their shares, Computershare employs the same tactics they used on me: executing a stop trade order on the account causing weeks of follow-up activity by the seller. This is how Computershare unlawfully keeps customers as hostages and makes the bulk of their money. In fact, this is the subject of an ongoing *** investigation. I suggest that others do the same also.
To Computershare: right trick, wrong person.

We have been trying to correct a name on our account that they fould up several years ago. It has been over a month trying to get this corrected and still no resolution, we are attempting to move some investments around while the stock is at a plus but are not able to move anything so if it tanks while they are not getting this issue resolved I will have to call my lawyer and file a suit against them which will result in my account losing more as a result of spending money on legal fees. Something needs to be done with this company, after reading some of the complaints it appears Im not the only person who is having issues with computer shareCustomer Answer
