Auto-Owners are a joke. My husband had an accident at his mother's house on February 26th, resulting in damage to her truck, a detached garage and he sustained injuries. He has called numerous times, so many that he's lost count, he has left voice-mails, and the person handling his claim will not return his calls. His mom has received the payment for the garage and he has received payment for his injuries, but his mother has still not received payment for her truck. He had another accident with his vehicle on March 17th, filed the claim on the 18th, and same thing, he has called, left voice-mails, and no one ever returns his calls. He has even visited our local agent several times, and they can not even get a return call. His car has been repaired, ready to be picked up, and he doesn't even have the money to pay them. I had an accident with my car in 2021 and had the exact experience as my husband has had. I would not even refer Auto-Owners to my worst enemy. His next phone call is going to be to the ** Insurance Commission.

We appreciate the opportunity to reply to this review. It is the goal of Auto-Owners to provide great claim service. We apologize if our service did not meet expectations in this case. At this time, payments have been issued on both files, and the branch will be further responding to your concerns in detail.

(Jackson Michigan) Worst insurance ever in my 37 years driving. HIGH rates for drivers with no infractions. Paid towing but older cars so they quit towing us. Worst app ever, doesn't function right and drops and they drop calls leaving you stranded for excess time. LATE PAYMENT FEES for only a week late payment, NO GRACE PERIOD, plus they want both the late and current and fees or they will shut you off. I WILL BE TAKING MY NEW TRUCK and my business elsewhere soon. When insurance companies start crashing, this needs to be on the top of the list please. BTW IS THE BBB EVEN READING THESE THINGS? LOOK AT THE MESS THIS COMPANY HAS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEM. SMH Guess I'm not alone.

Thank you for your correspondence regarding case number *****. Please see our Underwriting response below. There are many factors that go into the calculation and formation of our base rates. Current market trends such as an increased cost of labor, parts, and length of time to make repairs are driving factors in our base rate determinations at this time. All of our rates, including any rate increases, are filed and approved by the state. We would encourage the customer to reach out to their agent to see if there are any discounts that they are eligible for.

Auto-Owners home insurance field agent "Benjamin r" (Lancing, Michigan) tries his best to deceive home-insured clients by paying much less than the replacement value. (How does one repair or replace siding when the insurance company doesn't pay enough for either?) If they send Ben, ask for a different field agent or switch insurance companies.

We appreciate the feedback from Mr. ***8. It is common in the insurance industry for replacement cost policies to require work to be completed in order to claim the replacement cost. Initially a payment is made based on the actual cash value of repairs, as outlined in the policy. The balance is paid when the work is completed, and the final invoice is provided. In addition to the policy, documentation was sent to Mr. **** with the initial payment on March 13, explaining the actual cash value and how to claim the balance of the replacement cost. Our branch manager also had a detailed discussion with Mr. ****, however, if questions remain we are happy to answer them.

I cannot emphasize enough how much I regret choosing Auto-Owners Insurance for my various policies. My recent experiences with them have been nothing short of a nightmare, and I feel compelled to warn others about the pitfalls of dealing with this company.Let's start with their claims process, which is an absolute circus. After my car suffered damage from a pothole, my certified mechanic diagnosed a transmission issue directly caused by the incident. However, when Auto-Owners sent their appraiser, suddenly, they miraculously turned into transmission experts, claiming the damage wasn't related. I didn't realize their appraisers held PhDs in mechanical engineering! It's absurd and insulting to be treated as if I don't know what's happening with my own vehicle. But wait, it gets worse. Last year, when hail damaged the siding on one side of my home, I thought I could count on Auto-Owners to come through. Instead, they delivered another round of disappointment. Despite the obvious need to replace the siding with the same color to maintain the aesthetics of my home, they insisted that because my original siding was discontinued and sun-damaged, I should just accept a different color. Are you kidding me? Do they think I want my house to look like a patchwork quilt of mismatched colors? The sheer incompetence and lack of empathy displayed by Auto-Owners Insurance is mind-boggling. Dealing with them has been nothing short of a stress-inducing nightmare, and now I'm left with no choice but to start the arduous process of finding a new insurance provider for my home, auto, life, and business policies.Save yourself the headache and avoid Auto-Owners Insurance at all costs. They're not worth the hassle or the frustration.

Thank you for the opportunity to respond. It is the goal of Auto-Owners Insurance to pay all that is owed on each claim. We inspected Mr. ****** vehicle and have informed him of our findings. With his home, we have paid in accordance with the policy. We continue to be open to additional discussion and any new information that may be available.

It's been over a year with A/O, I am disappointed. Fortunately, I haven't experienced a claim. I am frustrated with customer service as well as the online tools. Online is c*** and unhelpful. **************** pushes you to contact a local agent. The issue is that my local agent work on their own hours if you're lucky enough to reach ( M-F til 430, wtf?) If I have a question and my agent is not available (or no longer representing), the online tools are c*** and doesn't have answers you are looking for. Try customer support and you will get the run around. I was mislead to take a life and auto is Auto-Owners, I keep seeing my life policy is PNC. I need clarification. They don't have support on the weekend. They're M-F 8a-4:30p and unreachable. Can you imagine Auto-Owners business model? Take money and avoid your customers? Let me be clear, I am not a repeat caller and don't carry a long list of notes in their system so I don't complain arbitrarily.

The worst insurance company I ever had for 20 years. They deny all kinds of legitimate claims with excuses. Don't waste your time and money on this useless company. They're pretty expensive too. With Auto Owners' home policy as if you don't even have coverage.

Looks like I'm not the only one with issues with Auto Owners. I had a homeowners policy with Auto Owners. I purchased this policy through Zorn Insurance in Vidalia, GA and my agent was Angela B. In March, 2023 water began to pour down my chimney into my fireplace. I called Angie and told her about the water but also told her I didn't want to file a claim at that time. In April, we had 2 hail storms in Soperton. In June, we realized we still were having water issues and hired a guy to build a "cricket" to route the water around the chimney and off the roof. In August we had 2 or 3 really bad wind storms. We lost 2 pine trees and a huge pecan tree. You would think the hail and wind might have made things worse with my situation. In November, I realized the paint on the right side of my fireplace was beginning to crack.. I called Angie and filed a claim. Auto Owners Adjustor, Ben P, called and said he was sending an independent adjuster, Brandon Doty, to inspect the damage. He walked all over my roof and then came inside. He placed a moisture meter on the side where the paint was and told us there was no moisture behind the paneling. When he left, we pulled a section of paneling off the wall and we literally squeezed the water out of the insulation.. When all was said and done they offered me $160.95 over my deductible to fix my house. I did not accept that ridiculous offer and currently have spent almost $8500 to repair my house. I called and asked to speak to Mr. Zorn yesterday and apparently he is too important to speak with clients so they passed me off to my agent who just wants to tell me how hard she has worked to help me, blah, blah and I shouldn't fuss at her, etc. Maybe she got upset because I told her I wouldn't insure my dog with Auto Owners and I would make sure I let others know how I have been treated. I would love to speak with someone from Auto Owners as long as they are not involved with Zorn Insurance in Vidalia!!! Pictures are available.

I've had Auto Owners for Lord knows how long. I'm guessing about 8-9 years, maybe? Anyhow, they've been pretty good to me so far. So, I have only good things to say. However, it is an insurance company, and they are there to make money. So who knows. My review may change. Just have to wait & see.

Buyer Beware!! I have auto and home insurance with Auto Owners as of now. Recently purchased an older home, they wrote the policy and accepted the premium for the year. A month later I get this letter in the mail demanding I replace the roof in four months or they will cancel the policy. This is my 4th home in 18 years and I have never had a homeowners claim, that is over $20k worth sent to insurance with nothing in return. Now insurance companies want new roofs installed for every home to be able to insure them? Backlash for all the hail damage claims?? This is wrong! I wish I could attach the letter. You have my premium but I am pissed. My call to Peoria, IL underwriting was disconnected, she told me to contact the agent in a nasty tone. I called to request the pictures of my roof they took in the dark with no ladder.

I have had Auto Owners since 2013. They have ALWAYS been responsive, taken care of my claims and been relatively affordable. I have had a condo flood and been in at least 3 car accidents with them and have had nothing but incredible service. The Newnan, Georgia office specifically, calls back within a couple of hours and has been the best insurance company we've ever had.
