Scavengers preying on people in thier time of grief.
The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA
Any debt collector who contacts you for payment must share with you certain information about the debt. If collectors don’t give you this information when they first contact you, then they must submit the information to you in writing within five days of the initial contact. Here’s the info they’re required to give you:
The name of the creditor.
The amount owed to the creditor.
That you can request the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

While we certainly understand and are familiar with the skepticism exhibited by your comments, please allow us to provide additional context you may find illustrative regarding some of the legal conclusions offered.Particularly, we are a licensed entity with an A+ BBB rating specializing in estate recoveries and our efforts center on locating probate estates and authorized representatives for an estate in order to assist with resolving outstanding bills of the decedent from estate assets, if any, on behalf of our clients. Ascension Point continues to call despite there being NO OUTSTANDING DEBTS related to my mother's death or estate.
They prey on grieving families in hopes of snagging that one person who will fall for their unscrupulous tactics and FALSE claims.
They HARRASS and have absolutely no legitimate authorization to discuss anything related to an estate. They are simply another scammer trying to get your information.
Anyone who reads this - DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM. You owe them NOTHING! And I say this with the full support of our Estate Attorney.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

This collection agency called my deceased mother’s cell phone today so I called the number back. My mother was found deceased in her apartment less than a month ago after passing unexpectedly - death certificate still lists cause of death as “pending” because toxicology hasn’t even come back yet so no one can even tell me how she died. Unfortunately my mother was horribly in debt when she passed and there isn’t even enough in assets to cover her final burial expenses. Even her bank accounts had a negative balance. Apparently, this collection agency is trying to collect for 2 Synchrony Bank credit cards that my mother had. I called all of her credit cards including these 2 cards within days of my mother being found. Synchrony told me that they were just writing off the debt since she had passed and there was no money to take anyway - so much for that. I told the woman at this collection agency that they can feel free to make a claim against the estate in Surrogate’s Court, but that there wasn’t going to be anything for them since again - there wasn’t even enough to cover her final burial expenses. Given everything I have been through in less than a month, the last thing I want to have to do is to keep rehashing the same info over and over again on the same debts with scavenger collection agencies because the answer isn’t going to change - she’s still dead and there’s still no money to take.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

Ascension Point is shady. My mother passed away last year. I recently received a letter from them stating that I'm the "Authorized Representative" for my mom's "Estate" and that I'm responsible for paying credit card debt. I've asked them to provide documentation supporting their claim that I'm the "Authorized Representative." They've failed to do so, but nevertheless continue to hound me as such. They can't just pick a family member and say, "Tag. You're it! Give us money. Now!"
The letter Ascension Point sent is inadequate for me to even know whether they're legitimate. Even after I disputed their claim that I owe them money and asked for more information, they have failed to provide it. They will only send the last four digits of the account numbers. They say I must pay the credit card company directly but do not provide a payment address for the company. Only their address. Additionally, they say that "itemized statements and other documentation" are available but only if I login to their website with a temporary username and password, create an account, and provide further information, including the name of the person handling the "Estate." Huh? Thought they said that was me. Super sketchy.
But the most important thing of all is that my mom had very little, and there is nothing to pay this debt. You don't have to be an "Authorized Representative" to do math. Since I'm being hounded, I have started to research and now know, as Ascension Point must, that, in the state in which my mom passed, if any debts are truly owed to creditors, they must be paid in an order dictated by law. Credit card companies are last on the list and cannot bully someone into paying them out of order in contravention of state law. They are only paid if there's something to pay them with. There's not, and I'm not obligated to pay out of my own pocket.
I'm fed up with them and their shadiness. They need to cease and desist hounding me and leave me in peace to mourn my loss.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

With this many negative reviews, how is this place still a “business”? They aren’t even a real business. They called me today to scam me and I made sure to call them back numerous times to understand they are not to mess with me again. They had no business calling me, or anyone from my family. Taking advantage of grieving families is the lowest of the low. They finally took me off the call list after I called back so many times. It’s ridiculous they are allowed to continue to do this. They do not deserve to have jobs. None of them could tell me what they actually do, what the purpose of the call was. Nothing. Complete scam. Disgusting people.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

I just tried calling these people. After hearing, for English stay on the line I did for eight minutes then hung up. I received a text yesterday from my Mom's caregiver. These people called her about my Mother who has been dead for seven years. My Mother had a credit score of 825. So, not to sure what they're calling about but when I do get through it won't be pretty.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

I got a call out of the blue from them. When I answered, the line was dead for 10 seconds before someone spoke. That's always a red flag. The person then asked if I was connected with the estate of my recently deceased sister. I asked her to verify her company's name, and then I asked her to tell me on whose behalf she was calling. She refused to tell me until I started providing her with the information she wanted. My suspicion was greatly up at this point.
I stupidly divulged that I am the executor for the estate, but I then got my wits about me and told her that was all the information she was getting. I pointed her to my lawyer.
In the interim, a Google search shows this to be a scam organization, so I don't understand the high BBB rating, unless the caller was in fact not from Ascension Point. The calling number was ******************.
When I looked in my phone log just now, I see that the phone company in fact has this tagged as potential spam.
Of note here is that my sister has been dead just about 6 weeks -- hardly the point at which bills should be going to collection. Also, I have notified all her creditors and have been waiting for any final bills from the ambulance or emergency room. No one should be trying to collect.
I have since instructed my attorney to ignore these people.AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC

Received a letter today from Ascension Point Recovery, requesting to speak with the person over the estate of my mother, regarding a debt. My mother had no estate. We are worried about how we are going to pay for her funeral expenses. There is no estate. I think this company is a scam. I have read a lot of the previous reviews and want to thank everyone.
