My mom died in August. She was 91 with cancer. Her credit company named Comenity Capital sent my mom's card to a debt collector. Credit card company said that I was not responsible for her debit. I received a letter from AscensionPoint giving their condolences and for me to contact them. I called and told them my mom had no assets. There is no estate. So, today I received another letter in which again they give their condolences which is hollow, and they expect to be paid. When I say that she has no estate and no assets what don't they understand? I am beyond livid.

Please understand it is never our intent to make the complexities of estate administration more difficult for anyone. Please also be advised that we have updated our records and notified our client of the concerns you have kindly shared. Speaking specifically to the second letter you received, please understand that said document is not a bill, but rather a validation notice containing an itemization of the account and notice of the estates rights, which we are required to send to you pursuant to law (namely the requirements of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 U.S.C. **** et seq., and Regulation F, 12 CFR **** et seq.). Rude, rude, rude, I would rate a zero if I could. I am the legal representative for the estate and they will not answer my questions. I have paid my mother's bill and they have not notified the original debt holder and I am still receiving bills for it. They claim they can't talk to me even to verify that they received payment. Again, I am the court appointed legal representative for the estate in question. They claim they can only talk to the attorney (hired by the estate, i.e. me). This is completely untrue. The FTC states that debt collectors can talk to the legal representative, the trust officer at the bank says they can talk to me. I don't think I should have to incur the attorney's fee (which is more than the original debt) for a telephone conversation to get her un-needed approval for release of information. Will also be filling a complaint with the FTC.

This company should be shut down. My son died five months ago. This company is trying to collect money from the closest relative of someone who died broke and with a baby on the way. We’re still paying for his burial expenses and now helping to take care of his newborn child. Ascension Point has the nerve and audacity to send us their deepest condolences on the same sheet of paper they’re trying to collect a debt. They can go try to extract it from the cemetery in Queens we buried him at. I do not want to be contacted by this company again. Estate, what a joke! They can come get his scooter ?? if they’d like to. And the rating is minus the star. Disgusting and, irreprehensible. Surely all the people that work there have transferable skills. Get a new job and a soul while you’re at it!!!!

As with other reviews, I will add a similar experience with entering the birth and death date of my deceased father and getting an "incorrect" error message. My father had no debts at all.. I believe their business practice must be to just search for all obituaries and send form letters to last known addresses. I reported them to the FTC and called and let them know that I did so. Please AscensionPoint don't bother replying to this because I don't want your insincere condolences and I hope you lose your license.

A letter address to the “Estate of” my late sister - arrived at my home. I opened the envelope and read the letter. I went to the debt collector’s website and gave them the name of the estate executor and what city the executor lives in to the best of my knowledge.

Their letter could have been improved by 1) stating how they got my address. I had not seen my sister for almost twenty years and live in a different county of our State. My sister never lived in my county; 2) by explaining whether or not they searched the county probate records- which should have the executor information.

These two steps, IMHO would go a long way to defusing the rage that I sense when reading other people’s reviews and complaints.

This company is run by fraudsters who are only trying to steal money from the estates of deceased individuals. I've now received 3 calls from them in the past 3 days. They just want to speak with the "person or persons in charge" of her estate. I ask why since the estate has been settled and ALL bills have been paid and I have NOT received anything in the mail about any outstanding debt she may have had,
They offer no concrete PROOF of any debt. All I can say is do NOT give them any personal information if they call you because that is exactly what they want. If there were any legitimate debt, the executor of the estate and I would have received certified letters in the mail by now.

      Dear Mr. **:
Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention and please accept this response on behalf of AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC, as an apology for any inconvenience or confusion you may have experienced during this time – please understand that is never our intent. Please also accept our most sincere condolences. While we certainly understand and are familiar with the skepticism exhibited by your comments, please allow us to provide additional context you may find more illustrative of our involvement in this matter.
Particularly, we are a licensed entity with an A+ BBB rating specializing in estate recoveries and our efforts center on locating probate estates and authorized representatives for an estate in order to assist with resolving outstanding bills of the decedent from estate assets, if any, on behalf of our clients. Because the identity of an estate representative may not always be known to us, despite our efforts to review available records, we reach out to family in an attempt to locate such person. Please understand, however, that in so doing we have an obligation to protect confidential financial information for the decedent from disclosure to unauthorized third parties, and as such, we are required to proceed through a verification process to ensure that no unauthorized disclosures occur. It is with this in mind that our verification questions are contemplated, and while we understand and empathize with any concern, frustration, and even suspicion when faced with this process, please understand that we simply cannot disclose account information without first obtaining verification that the person with whom we are communicating is in fact the authorized party for the estate.
Notwithstanding, we would very much like to investigate your concerns further, update our records to rectify this situation, and notify our client(s) to ensure that your concerns are fully addressed. However, based upon the limited information received, we are unable to locate the appropriate matter in our office to do so. If you are willing, please contact our office at ************* **** ****, to provide additional information so that we may ensure this matter is promptly rectified to everyone’s satisfaction, as we do take concerns such as these very seriously.
Thank you again for notifying us of your concerns, and again, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience experienced.

This company reeks of fraud!!! My mother got a letter from them 14 months after my dad's death. The letter implied that money was owed but was vague and gave no information as to who money was due. My mother is 93, but after reading other complaints about Ascension, they apparently don't only target the elderly.
I spoke to a curt representative who refused to give information on the case, despite that my mother (sitting next to me during the call) gave permission to discuss details. Yet he had the GALL to ask who I was, and my full name (NOT given!). He told me that he was prohibited from disclosing information about who the company was representing. Bull! I have seen collection letters before and they ALWAYS tell who they are representing. I requested this information in writing and the rep told me that it would be sent within 5 days. I'm not holding my breath.
There was a company link on the letter, to access "additional details". After the fourth try (prior attempts said that the info provided was incorrect), the site indicated that there was no file on the reference number provided. The whole thing is fishy.

Dear **********************:Thank you for letting us know of your very understandable concerns, and please accept this response on behalf of AscensionPoint Recovery Services, LLC, as an apology for any inconvenience or confusion you may have experienced through this process. More importantly, please accept our most sincere condolences for the loss of your father. While we would respectfully disagree with any characterization that we are a fraudulent company, we certainly do understand and empathize with the concerns you have expressed and share in the frustrations associated with certain aspects of the estate administration process. To provide a bit of background, our office specializes in estate recoveries for our clients and our efforts center on attempting to locate an authorized estate representative to assist in the resolution of accounts out of estate assets, if any. Please understand, however, that we have an obligation to protect confidential financial information for a decedent from disclosure to unauthorized third parties, and as such, initial written communications from our office may admittedly be lacking specific information until we identify the estate representative with whom we may speak. Moreover, we are required to proceed through a verification process on every telephone call to ensure that no unauthorized disclosures occur. It is with this in mind that our verification questions are contemplated, and while we understand and empathize with the concern or frustration with this process, please understand that the process is not driven by any intent to make things difficult or appear suspect, but rather to comply with applicable law, preserve the integrity and security of the account information, and prevent possible fraudulent activity resulting from information being obtained by an unauthorized third party.Again, we apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this process may have caused, and rest assured that we will review any and all conversations you have had with our office to take the appropriate remedial action should we discover unsatisfactory performance by one of our agents. In light the information you have kindly shared, we have updated our records and notified our client of the concerns raised. Someone had the audacity to call me and try and collect money from me regarding my late brother, WHO WAS MURDERED. He was only 23. Are you kidding me? My parents handled his estates and he has no outstanding debts, but also, why call me? This company is seeking to take advantage of people and adding salt to the wound. This has caused me so much pain already and them reaching out just caused more. Don't fall for this.

This company contacted me on my home phone seeking a debt owed by my deceased family member who lived and died out of state. I never lived in the state my family member did, nor was I part of any debt that person allegedly may owe anyone. The company claimed it contacted me at my home phone as they claimed they mailed a letter to my family members last known residence. The family member they named on the phone does not and did not leave with me or even in the same state. When the company was asked to confirm the last known address they allegedly sent some letter to, the company rep. refused to confirm what address they had sent any alleged letter to. This is a terrible business practice and even contacting me about some alleged debt of my family member is an FTC violation in my opinion. I can see why the reviews for this company are so low. I rate them as a zero but the system states I must give them at least one star to submit the review.. The rep said the phone number of the company and when asked confirmed the company calling, the rep said the call was from Ascension Point. (the number stated was a number found as the company's number. These harassing and misleading calls need to stop.
