Can't get through to them, especially when trying to ask about unnotified fees. I've been with them on and off (they've bought and sold and bought my loans again) for almost 20 years. They also have seemingly bungled my preferences a few times, where I applied for Income-Based Repayment and then, found my loans had either been put in forbearance or outright went straight to deferral. At this point in their existence, you dont have to have a degree in economics or political science to see through their facade of purpose. They're about the least open or valid of "governmental" enterprises in Missouri. They basically and ultimately serve to cripple the financial freedom of many, many student borrowers of their state. Slowly over their 40 years, they've gently gouged and stolen from student debtors, then use a significant amount of their revenue to lobby the Missouri state governing bodies to maintain their machine. Today it appears to be little more than a simple, blatant, politician and party kickback enterprise, which runs primarily on the financial dependence of working people.

My experience with Mohela is the worst service I have ever had with a loan servicer. My student loans have been switched a few times, and I have NEVER been so dissatisfied. They switched my account, where I was currently on my loan. They then sent me to collections for missing a payment I can prove I made. Those monies are between them and the previous loan company, not me. No one can help with this situation. I also signed up for Mohela auto-pay from my checking, yet they do not take the money directly. So now I am behind again. There is also a discrepancy in what they want me to pay and what was set up when they took the loan over. **************** can never help me as I am placed on hold for over an hour once I finally reach someone. Then, they hang up without any resolution. Someone has to do something with this company. I will send a written correspondence to the corporate headquarters and the US Department of Education. If I could give zero stars, I would. The BBB needs to help us customers out.

Mohela is the worst student loan servicer I have ever had, and my loans have been sold numerous times. They never respond to anything. I have been trying to get my repayment plan switched since August! I have called and been on hold for hours. When I finally get to speak to someone, they are in training. They are usually nice, but they cannot help with anything. I have sent messages on their website and nothing. I was sent auto replies to my November messages saying they had to respond to me within 15 days. Its almost January. Its ridiculous.

I was not able to make full payments for the month while applying for a hardship program on a fixed income. The individual named ******** spoke with tried to convince me to make a payment over providing for my family, and to borrow/steal money from several people close to me to make the payment like a degenerate scammer. This company, and the individuals who run it should be sent to prison at this point.

In trying to place my educational loans on a fixed extended repayment plan, I've spent many hours connecting with Mohela. My initial call was 5 or so hours, talking to four reps, two of whom disconnected. Each could not or would not switch me to this plan—I was never really clear on what the problem was—and when the fourth rep finally said they could help, they said they'd send me an estimate and my request would be processed. I then waited over two months for Mohela to switch my plan. I finally received a letter from Mohela, which stated that my loans could not be placed on the extended fixed repayment plan because they are consolidated. In actuality, one of my loans is consolidated; the other three are not. So I called to tell Mohela this (which I very much should not have had to do). The rep basically said ok, he would place those non-consolidated loans on the fixed plan I requested. Yet the next day, I received a bill for next month's payment—and it showed the same payment amount as in previous months, reflecting that my loan STILL had not been switched to the fixed repayment plan.

I called back a THIRD time the day after receiving the letter. The rep claimed that my three non-consolidated loans were actually now in a fixed extended repayment plan. That is what she said, but I have received no statement to reflect an updated payment; in fact, as of today, my Mohela account STILL shows a payment due that is NOT reflective of the fixed extended repayment plan.

In the meantime, prior to this third call, I'd read at studentaid.gov that borrowers can ask for dischargeable loans to be placed in forbearance while they wait for that discharge. So during this third call, I also requested for that to happen. Like other reps, this rep put me on hold she could "talk to a supervisor" about this. And that went on, several times, these requests to put me on hold, until I insisted that had no time left to dither on the phone and needed an answer. Finally after another hold or two, the rep pushed back on my request, stating something like that that she can't place the loan in forbearance because it is not now in discharge. And I said, right, as we just discussed, this is a forbearance that the Department of Education allows while the borrower is WAITING for the discharge. Finally, she said that she would "put in an application" for "general forbearance."

I am a long-time borrower, having gone to graduate school twice. I paid off some loans and am trying to pay these loans down in a reasonable way. In thirty years, I have never experienced this kind of ongoing Kafkian nightmare in dealing with loans or anything else. There's a class action lawsuit against Mohela in process with regard to PSLF applications. I am contacting that law firm about my problems with Mohela. I am also contacting my legislators and I have already put complaints in to studentaid.gov.

A refund that was being process to send to me in 6 to 8 weeks was canceled with no reason, no explanation, and no communication. I called and they just said we can start over the process so another 6 to 8 weeks when the refund was suppose to be sent right before Christmas. Really bad service no communication and it takes 30+ minutes on the phone to receive no explanation. Why I was transferred to then is unknown but they are terrible.

This company will charge interest on Principle-Only Payments. Zero missed payments. On Time Minimum monthly payment for the month. And still charged double interest on an additional Principle-Only payment. Completely Unethical!

This is such an unprofessional loan servicer. The **** in particular is completely mismanaged. You can never get ahold of anyone for hours and the communication is so vague. My loans were randomly put into forbearance without any notice because they were miscalculating and representing everyones balances. Moreover their counts for the **** seem wildly inaccurate. Its such a headache to try to contend with them.
