  I'm getting out ahead of this as I may eventually file a formal complaint. My daughter signed up with Varsity Tutors on 9/11/2024 and was told a cost of $299/mo (for 4 hours of tutoring sessions per month). She was told it was a monthly membership that could be canceled when she no longer needed support. Sign up required upfront payment and one of my cards was set as the default payment card. She used her initial 4-hour tutoring allotment over the next week. As the 10/11/2024 monthly renewal date approached, she decided that she didn't need further support and chose to NOT extend her membership. On the evening of 10/10/2024, I logged in to the Varsity Tutors website to cancel her membership and found there was no option for the account user to cancel online...and that I had to call to cancel or pause the membership. On the morning of 10/11/2024, I called to cancel. The customer service *** was polite, but I was met with substantial resistance to cancelling the membership. After pressing, I was offered an option to pause the membership for 1 month (until 11/11/2024)...and that there was no charge during the pause. Further, it was explained that I could still cancel the membership, if I did so be for the pause was lifted on 11/11/2024. At that point I had been on the phone for 30 minutes...and accepted that offer. I was at work and had to move on to other tasks.I thought the issue was somewhat reasonably resolved. But, being made skeptical by the pushback I was facing (particularly the inability to cancel or pause the membership online), I locked my payment card. I am so glad I did. Later that morning Varsity Tutors sent through a $523 charge that was blocked by my bank. I have no ideas why it wasn't a $299 monthly membership charge. I will be taking that up with the company next. But, I'm submitting this NEGATIVE review first. The 1 Star rating is acknowledging the polite service ***.

  My daughter used VT for SAT prep. The tutors were nice but the material they covered was not helpful. She is a 4.0 student but not a great test taker and her scores did NOT improve with VT despite many sessions. I would not recommend using them again.

  Varsity tutors has been a great ACT prep for my son. He went up 4 points on the test after 6 sessions. He takes it again at the end of this month. Im excited to see if he goes up again.

  A big disappointment with Varsity Tutor. Now that I`m reading all these reviews, I deeply regret using this unreliable company. Like many of you, I made a deal with them for 4 classes for my daughter back in April 26th. We were done with the hours and just to be safe I sent them a message confirming that I do not want to renew any other deal. In September I needed other classes for my other daughter and at my surprise they were charging me since April. I was so frustrated and mad on the phone that the agent offered me a solution. She stated they will credit me 16 hours and I have 6 months to use them without any condition. I scheduled classes with the teacher and after 4 hours they locked my account. Even with these 4 hours it was challenging with all the technical issues with the app, to choose, keep the hours. Sometimes they will cancel the class the last minute.I called to figure out what's going on and at my surprise, they didn't know what I was talking about. They don't keep records of their customers` calls. What a waste of time, energy, getting frustrated and having to repeat the whole story from the beginning. I had to ask them to do investigation and listen to all the recording of my conversations with their agent. After that, they called me offering nothing but diplomatic, passive aggressive answers that means that I do not owe them anything and that my money is gone with the wind. Such a frustrating experience, we lost money, time, energy and trust with you guys.....How can you do such service by trapping vulnerable parents or students and charging them without offering them the service? Now even the education field is affected by the ugliness of a human being.....Such a shame.

  I had help studying for AUD of the *** exam and had a wonderful experience. My tutor was willing to adjust to my schedule and learning style.

  We signed up for a $276 membership (4 hours). The first session, the tutor was streaming ******** at the same time. It was so loud, I could hear it in my living room and I was like what the heck is going on? I called and cancelled and requested a refund. I'm going to go with in person tutoring which my town library offers FOR FREE with highly educated librarians. I also filmed what was happening so I have evidence. Hopefully I get my refund. Such a disappointment.
