SO I have just looked at my bill, and realized my equal payment plan is going up this month (but energy usage is going down). Keep in mind, we have had NUMEROUS outages, including last year with the severe cold when the power just stopped in **********, **. I find that I have recently been incurring a RIDER ADJUSTMENT CHARGE to the tune of ***** a month for the past couple of months. No wonder my bill is more. After looking on the website and calling Duke, I was told it was a fuel surcharge because of higher gas prices. Brilliant. On top of storm recovery. On top of the higher per KW charge. C'mon man, when is someone going to look into this type of behavior from this company?Probably never, but now even using less energy we are paying more due to these extra charges.

wtf is wrong with this company.... I pay all the light bills every month when I can but, when I do pay, they tell me insufficient funds.....what you mean insufficient funds I have all the money In the bank to pay the bills why are you saying I don't have enough? then you say you returned the money because of it being to low on funds....I call ******** this has happened every single month literally. so I say my bills you tell me this then you say you returned the money back even though that's a lie, then you tell me I owe a huge amount that either didn't come in yet or over charging one of the two, y'all need to either do better or give up your business. this is ridiculous,

Duke energy is a monopoly allowed by the ***********. Duke energy failed to communicate closure of an account even after payment on multiple occasions. Not a single agent took a minute of their time to check our account to confirm wether or not the account was already closed. When I called in the days prior to Thanksgiving of 2023 they confirmed that the power was disconnected but the account was still open. We made a payment and spoke to multiple agents to which they confirmed that services would be reconnected within the following business days. The power was never reconnected so we called a couple of more times to which they assured us that services are soon to be reconnected. We called Duke energy again on 11/30/23 to confirm reconnection yet again only to find out that the account has been closed since the 10th of November. This information was never communicated even when we made the payment for reconnection. Duke energy on multiple occasions has fallen under bad business practices and unfortunately there are no other providers. This monopoly must be held accountable for bad business practices and lack of communication.

The previous February 2023, I paid "as a guest" online with the corresponding account number from an older bill. After making payment online, i checked my online banking for up to 3 days. For some reason, my account wasn't even showing a pending but I didn't pay it much attention until a new bill came in even higher. It was my understanding through my bank it was duke that simply rejected the payment through the ONLINE/DEBIT CARD SYSTEM (not even a decline/insufficient funds reason)just simply rejected it. Ever since, It had been advised to either: pay cash at a cash checking place or a grocery store utility service. This is what makes payments entered and posted later Btw, this company had the nerve to send a power rate report regarding recommended power vs our power usage. We're living in a **** sq. Ft apartment unit but was charged up to $300.00+

I have a small business that I opened 5 years ago and have an over 800 credit score. My light bill has always been paid before the due date. I just rented the small space next door and with my excellent payment history and credit score they are charging me a ridiculous $500 deposit to hold for 24 months to turn my lights on next door. This is extortion to all small businesses. Ridiculous!!!!

Duke energy is the absolute worst company to deal with. They are overcharging **. And claiming we owe them money when we don't. They claim that we have past due bills when we have paid every single bill. And now our bill is far too high for us to be able to afford it. We cannot keep handling this stress.

After moving into my new house, I get a call from a man from Duke Energy saying that when my service was connected, the surge device was never connected and to call them immediately as this was an important matter. It was a ploy to get me to buy a surge protection program. As this is my seventh home, I knew better, but this phone call was deceptive and I'm sure has worked many times since they are still doing it.

I have never been so frustrated with a utility company in my life. I am an assistant property manager and I have had the WORST customer service. I have uploaded our newly built properties for the *** program MULTIPLE times because they can't get it out of the builders name into our community name. I don't understand why that is so hard? On top of that, I have tried multiple times to get my properties to show up on the "Landlord Experience" page online and it is either failing or not showing up. I have emailed and called more times than I can count and NO ONE has been able to get it straight, help me, or return my calls. I am put in multiple different email threads and have talked to God knows how many actual humans, told multiple different things, that I didn't do this right or that right, then there is a tiny glimpse of hope that something has changed or that it has been fixed but nope. Nothing has or ever has changed for MONTHS. Even my husband who is a property manager couldn't get our new street lights on in a timely manner. I am at an actual loss for words of how horrific and stressful this has been. Not to mention it has made my work days that much more difficult. If I could give negative ****** stars I would. SMH.

Duke Energy Power Manager Program: I have repeatedly turned them down every time they offered this program to me. To my surprise, I found they had installed the power manager on my air conditioning unit anyway. I have never given my consent! Multiple times this summer I have come home from work to find my thermostat in an error state and my wife complaining that the house would not stay cool. This type of deception is not ok, but it does fit their business model of charging excessive rates, donating millions to things I don't agree with, and being a monopoly I can't escape.
