Always a "90+" hour hold time whenever I call. I usually hang up at about 45 minutes. I need to talk to someone about my parent student loan. My child just finished school 2 months ago but yet I'm "past due" a month. I was told repayment is not due until 6 months after. And I tried logging in the website tonight but they are having "Technical issues".

Absolutely awful experience on the website, app, and with customer service. I haven’t been able to access anything on my account for 2 weeks (which is crucial considering they sent emails stating I’m late on a payment even though I’ve been a full time student all year AND my loan is supposed to be forgiven due to my time in the service) and every day the last week I have waited on hold my entire lunch period with no answer, and today I was on hold for OVER TWO HOURS with no answer. I have also used their email tool which I have now waited a week for a response on. I thought getting a mortgage bought out by a different company was bad, this is 10 times worse. How do they have the money to buy out these loans when they’re absolute garbage like this.

My husband is a Military Veteran and that’s important for this post because they had zero issue tracking my balance, just his. Student loans were transferred from Great Lakes and he received a letter listing some special circumstances that apply to him so his balance was dropped to $0. Several months later, he received a late payment notification with no previous information provided. His online portal allows login but will not generate any loan information or allow for a payment. It says error. He emailed them almost two weeks ago and never received a response. He was on hold for over an hour last week and ran out of time to wait. Today I have currently been on hold for 2 hours and still waiting. We still have no idea if or why he has a balance, we are not allowed to make a payment that is supposedly already late, we have not received any communication to show that the letter was sent in error yet we are starting to receive warnings that he will have a late payment potentially put on his credit if a payment is not made.
If we are not able to get this figured out soon and ANYTHING reflects on his credit, we will be filing an official complaint.

Of course their profile is being updated right now -- it's because they are ill equipped to handle the start of student loan payments. I've been waiting for them to update my portal for 2 months in order for me to set up direct deposit. I've now lost out on 2 months of chances to take advantage of the .25% discount on my interest rate. The next step for me is figuring out who I have to complain to remove me from Nelnet and to a different provider. Because I've spent over 6-10 hours on phone calls trying to fix the problem with them. They are absolutely a joke.

Nelnet's incompetence is second to none. 3-4 hour waits to talk to a representative that has no idea what they're doing. They shut down their email division, so calling is the only way to get in touch.

They lie constantly and try to pass the buck to the Department of Education. They are keeping loans on the books instead of discharging them from the lawsuit Sweet v Cardona.

The CEO makes over 2 million a year, and has over 45 million in Nelnet stock. Yet they can't "afford" workers to service the accounts. And how the heck did he accumulate so much money off the backs of students? He should be in jail

A predatory establishment with absolutely no customer service. I’ve been trying to contact them for weeks to change my email on my account (I don’t have access to the one they have on file) so I can start my payments since student loan repayment started up again and I cannot get in touch with a human. I have emailed them with no response, they only have chat bots and no live representatives, and when I call the wait is consistently around 40 minutes with no callback option which is difficult to wait around for when you have a job, family, and life responsibilities. I strongly believe Nelnet is actively denying customer service help to keep people from paying on time so they can let interest just pile up on student loans. Terrible practice, I highly suggest that you don’t use this company if you can help it.

Horrible customer service. I emailed them October 4th I couldn’t access my account to make a payment and didn’t want to be late heard nothing back until November 9th. Then I emailed them back today because they really could have messed my credit up and got a response back that they are busy f that they are dealing with peoples credit hire more people if you can’t handle the calls and emails I am trying to make a payment and you don’t have anybody to help me with that??

I never asked to be switched from Great Lakes to Nelnet, it happened automatically. They are a student loan servicer. It’s been terrible, not a single thing has gone right and there is no timely way to get ahold of customer service. They have sent me multiple due date notices that show different dates and different amounts due. I have no idea what’s going on with my account. Calling in wait times are over 90 minutes long, and you get a warning when you send an email that their email volume is too high and is creating a long wait time. I have never missed a payment in 14 years but I am about to cancel my auto-pay and let that happen because this company’s ineptness is starting to scare me. I don’t want them to have my information anymore.

I am having difficulty with NelNet, a student loan provider. I made several payments that they have misallocated funds for, have tried reaching them by email for weeks with no response, have tried calling and am on hold for 2-3 hrs and then disconnected. Their CHAT is useless.

I am attempting to file a complaint against them for misuse of funds. Their customer service is non-existent. Nelnet is refusing to apply payment for interest so that they can compound existing amounts to increase profits. There business practices are sketchy at best.

Currently, I have spent at least 20 hours just trying to reach them, with no success. The Federal Student Loan program so investigate them.

Absolutely terrible. Waited on hold for almost 3 hours and said wait time was 60 minutes. Then try to get the next day and still the same thing.
