Customer support is terrible. Been waiting on hold for over 2 hours waiting to talk to someone. Their practices need to be stepped up in order to support the student loans that they have taken on. Not being able to speak with someone is not acceptable.

I’d give negative stars if I could. I have repeatedly emailed my so-called loan servicer over the last couple of months to no avail. I have tried making online payments to no avail cause their website is conveniently down right after loans were just given out. This is highly unprofessional and ridiculous way to run a business. It’s almost like they’re trying to make it difficult for anybody to make payments just so they can keep their interest coming in on these loans. I am deeply disappointed in how they have handled this situation (or lack thereof in trying). This business should not be credited by the BBB if this is how they handle customers. I first emailed them in August and it’s been almost 2 full months with not even a reply to my original emails.

Worst company I have EVER dealt with. Cannot get ahold of them even though payments are due on the 11th. Phone kicks me off every time or im on hold and never speak to an actual person. I tried calling my school but they cant do anything because it's not even their business (isnt their fault) How can I pay something if I can't even access the account. All i want to do is pay... that's all im asking because I know that even though I'm doing everything in my power, I am gonna be the one hit with the penalty for not paying and my interest will still add up. Nelnet has over 293+ reviews with 99% of them being bad. That's not a coincidence, this is affecting so many people. Please do something about this. We are calling, emailing, everything that we can POSSIBLY do and it's just out of our hands. There have been some people trying to contact them OVER 6 MONTHS. 6 months is a long time and at this point, it's draining. I'm trying to be respectful here but this is a huge issue which needs to be resolved and people need to be aware of. We are already working hard just to be able to survive and get a decent job and keep our homes. We do not need the additional stress of knowing that we have a debt that we can't even pay back but, are still gonna get penalized for it. We need help and answers.

Held for over 2 hours! I have tried reaching out to the customer service number on multiple occasions and their recorded line states their hold times may be as long as 30 mins. Today October 6, 2023 I have been on hold for 2 hours and 23 mins.
This type of customer service for a company that holds student loans is irresponsible. As most know a lot of loans are coming due this month, and in particular my daughter's loan is one of them. She currently re-enrolled back into school full-time, back in August 2023 however her loan is still showing a payment due.
We have submitted through the portal a change in status and it hasn't seemed to affect her status of loan, hence needing to speak with a live person. They have a "Chat" tool however it is a "bot" that just points you back to calling customer support.
A company that services loans should not be able to get away with this service!
If we find no resolution in the next week, we will file a formal complaint.

      concerning Nelnet:
They emailed that someone had "updated" their contact information and gave Nelnet MY email address. I do not know that person's account, and no account info was given in the email from them to me, so I couldn't even speak to that account or who's on it or the amount owed.
I phoned the number given to let them know I did not request the "update" and I am not that person.
The call center automated message said it would be "a half hour wait time"...it has now been 2 hours and no one has picked up this phone call. Just their menu messages replaying over and over with the canned music, while I wait.
Whomever created this mass letter and update info, should have also created a designated phone number to correct these mistakes or errors. If Nelnet does want their repayment, they should really want the accurate information concerning the account.
I hope this message reaches someone in upward administration because it needs to be remedied.
I will not be paying attention to these notifications. And will mark them as "spam" the person who should be getting the notifications won't be receiving them. Nelnet will not be getting their money.
Had someone answered my call, I could be more specific with the person's name and perhaps point them in the right direction. But that won't happen.

Can I give ZERO stars? After years of suffering with my student loans at Navient and with the enhancements to the Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) plans, it was advantageous for me to take the necessary steps to become eligible for the IDR program. Since Navient was the actual owner of my loans, I had to re-consolidate with the Federal Student Aid program and made the, now HORRIBLE, mistake of selecting Nelnet. I simultaneously applied for the necessary loan consolidation AND the IDR program on August 3. On September 26, Nelnet sent me a confirmation that the loan consolidation is complete. However, there is no information about the IDR application. They claim it doesn't exist. By default, they assigned me to standard repayment. Calling them is impossible as they have the "high call volume" whining statement and arbitrarily close at hours different than what is published. Further, my outstanding balance on student loans doubled. Nelnet "funded" my loans but Navient is still telling Federal Student Aid that I owe those loans too. Given prior history with Navient, I can easily assume it will take months to get that cleared up. And while fixing THEIR INCOMPETENCE, I am sure they will still be demanding my monthly payment. In all, consolidation has doubled my outstanding loan balances and I have been effectively denied the IDR relief. Right out the gate, Nelnet is just as sleazy as Navient and it will take me months, if not years, of fighting with them to fix the mess THEY CREATED!

I have been on hold for 3 hours! This component must hire only one person to answer phone calls. They are predatory and scammers. If you can switch your loan provider do so immediately!

Horrible customer service!!! I have completed my income-driven repayment application two months ago and Nelnet has not applied it to my account. When I call their customer service line, I'm on hold for multiple hours. The "Live Chat" just sends you to the phone number if you need to speak to an agent. I have read multiple reviews where customer accounts were locked or mishandled by this bumbling and absentminded joke of a company.

Nelnet's customer service department is horrible. I waited for more than 2 HOURS to speak to an agent. They need to improve their live chat to be able to interact with a real person. Why do they make it so difficult to speak to an agent. I wanted to set up my account as I could not do it online. Why do they make it so hard to pay your loans?

My loan was moved from Great Lakes to Nelnet. I have been trying to reach customer service for 2 - 4 hours on hold for multiple days without getting through. Compared to Great Lakes with pickup times each time under 5 min this company's customer service is terrible the US Department of Education should associate with this servicer.
