I will never use Budget again for either a truck or a car rental. Recently I moved cross country and rented a truck and car trailer. After reserving on line weeks prior I spent hours on the phone with dispatch leading up to the move, they sent me to three different locations and at one point lost my reservation. When they finally found a location with the truck/trailer I had reserved it was extremely dirty. I have rented many trucks from uhaul and never seen anything this disgusting, we had to purchase moving blankets to line the floor, walls and wrap all of our furniture. While on our cross country journey we notice there is a piece of electrical tape covering up the check engine light that had been on for who knows how long. Which caused us to do a more in depth walk around where we noticed chunks of tread missing off the tires and one of the tail lights out on the car trailer. It is unbelievable that a dealer would allow a truck off the lot in this condition with no regard for the renters safety. After speaking with customer service who had the audacity to down play the situation and say we should have called roadside assistance so all they could offer was $250 on a $2500+ rental. How about Budget should never have let a truck in that condition off the lot, and the fact that we spent an entire day running around trying to find the truck we reserved do you think we're going to trust Budget to come out in the middle of the mountains and get us a "working" truck. Absolute nightmare from start to finish, will never use them again and make sure none of our friends and family use them again.Budget Truck Rental

First time ever writing a review of anything, ever.
The terms of service establish you are only guaranteed the rate provided, of course. Same with other truck companies. But I promise any other truck company is better with customers than this one.
We received a call from our pickup location in Parma, Ohio the day before our move telling us they had no trucks available. The central costumer service did not help at all. They told us we'd be able to pick up a truck at a location in Wickliffe, Ohio. Because we didn't trust what they told us we called the Wickliffe location and not only did they not have a truck available, the person who answered the phone was horrendously rude.
Cancelled and called ******, and working with ****** was absolutely lovely. Entire experience with Budget was atrocious.Budget Truck Rental

I will never rent with Budget again. I have rented with ****** and ****** in the past and had no problems. This truck had mechanical issues that almost caused me to crash the truck. The truck should not have been allowed out of the yard. Then after I dropped it off it took a week for them to check it in so I could even call customer service for a refund. Customer service is obviously overseas and has not updated there phone lines since the 80's. I had to end one call because I could not hear the person on the other end. After calling customer service for the 4th time over a week after drop off I was offered a $70 refund on on $600 rental. After telling 7 different people what was wrong with the truck they said they didn't have a note that the park brake didn't work correctly. Again this is the 7th person I told this to. Finally I was offered a 40% credit because they "have no way to offer more". It is ridiculous that a company this large has such terrible equipment maintenance and customer service.Budget Truck Rental

I made an advance reservation #xxx**** (about 2 weeks ahead) for a Budget cargo van at a St. Louis, MO location for Sunday, Oct 16 2022. I needed it to move some furniture one way to Urbana, IL, a 3-hour drive. Friday late evening on Oct 14 I've got a call from that location saying that the van won't be available until Monday. That was too late for me. For many reasons, Sunday was the only day I could do it. The guy on the phone didn't offer any other options and gave me a 1-800 number to call a local manager who would find another location in the area where a van could be available. By that time, no van could be found online anywhere in St. Louis for Sunday. I hoped that the manager will find it through his channels. But the person on the phone was not a manager and not someone who could do it at all. Also he could barely speak English, so it was difficult for me to explain to him what I needed and to understand what he was saying. However in the end he said that he would send my request to the local manager. Still, he said that since this was already about 7 pm, the manager would call me next morning and solve my problem. I never received that call, but the next morning I received a matter-of-fact email saying that my reservation was cancelled, just like that. No alternative pickup location, no free upgrade suggestion, no issue resolution, no compensation, even no apology. They accepted my reservation 2 weeks prior and then they cancelled it one day before the move date, when no other rental could be found anymore, as if it was something they couldn't care less about. Which was just that, apparently. I'm appalled by the horrible customer service at Budget Truck Rental and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.Budget Truck Rental

Please note that "A reservation only guarantees the rate once confirmed with a credit card deposit and shows a customer's preferences for a pick-up location, drop-off location, time of rental, and date of rental and equipment type. Our customers control our Inventory; sometimes, however, a previous renter's plans change for myriad reasons, and that causes a delay in returning the truck on time, dropping trucks off at other locations, accidents, and unforeseen mechanical issues. When this occurs, it impacts truck availability for others. All truck rental companies face this exact situation. BTR makes every attempt to have the confirmed truck available when each customer has reserved it, and our Inventory Team does their best to match your needs and accommodate your specific request. Unfortunately, on occasion, this is not possible.
We understand that you were caused an inconvenience, and we would like to make this right by offering you the difference if you had rented with a competitor. Simply provide us a copy of the rental receipt and your address where you would like a check mailed.

1 starRented a car from them Sep 17/18, called to confirm if the car was going to be ready 14 passenger van , they said yes , got there and was told the van has a flat and the person would not be available until Monday to fix it, (Saturday was the rental date ) , if I wanted two cars ? No no no , after waiting for two hours , we got the van ...a month later and we are still waiting for our $200 dollars deposit to be put back in my account. The van was returned on time with a tank of gas and clean , why is it that I have to wait so long for my money ??? Called 3 times all with a different answer as to why my money haven't been return , the last called the rep told me that he saw that I return the car two hours after , so I was changed for an additional day, I explained that I was notice per the pick up rep that I have until 2pm on the 18 to return the car. He state he didn't see it , but he was going to give me 76$ back, which was the cost of the extra day. I asked why was the cost still so high , he told me that the insurance was add , now I didn't take insurance that day , cause I showed a copy of my insurance card and told them I was using my insurance as I alway did!! He told me I should of look at the contract. I asked to speak to a manager and he said none was available, when I said I need this issues resolved today , the rep hang up the phone on me . This is unacceptable , it's not my first rental and it will be my last from this company... still waiting for my deposit after one month. At the time of the rental I asked what were the charges for it to be exact I was told that 200 was the deposit hall and 176 was the cost of the rental at the time of signing the contract. BEWARE - This location will take advantage of consumers. I was an hour late returning the rental and was charged $113. Appalling...this amount was almost the same amount I paid for a one day rental which was high enough at $150/day for a Corolla. I understand this is a business, but NO business should take advantage of consumers in this way. I will not be renting from this location or any other Budget location ever again.Budget Truck Rental

By way of explanation, Budget bills their customers from when they pick up until the contract is closed. The hourly, daily, and weekly rates are disclosed in the agreement. We do offer a 29-minute grace period. The return time is kept the same if a client picks up their car earlier than confirmed. Our records indicated that you kept the car beyond the 29-minute grace period on your rental above. You had based your return on the agreed return time. We apologize for the confusion. As a gesture of goodwill, we have refunded the extra hour charge billed on your rental. A total credit of $121.04 has been issued to the payment method on file and should post to the account within 3-5 business days.

Zero concern for the customer! I reserved a vehicle in advance and even called the location of pick up 48 hours in advance to confirm the vehicle was still available. After driving 45 minutes one way to pick up the vehicle in a rental car, we are told that the truck has been reassigned for UPS with no communication from Budget via phone, email, or text. I called Budget truck and was told to wait for someone from inventory to call back which took 2 hours. Steve, from inventory, immediately started the calling telling me there is nothing they can do and the reservation you make and card you give is not a confirmation there is actually any vehicle available. 2 days before a huge cross country move and we are having to scramble to find an available truck from a different company. Budget did not offer to help in any way getting a truck for our move. There are other people who had similar experiences.

1 starNOT SAFE! The truck rental had numerous problems and the rental listing was false! My experience was less than sub par. So bad, it actually became comical. The following is a list of problems or endurance challenges that occurred with my trusty steed the, "Budget Truck". Maybe the word budget should have been my first clue. We will start with the pinging motor. I ran higher octane fuel in it so it went away. The loud sound of the window air leaks added to the odor in the vehicle. You know ambiance! But, I was by myself. Speedometer not accurate. But, tell that to the speed check monitors in the school zones. Yep, that's how I found out there was a problem. I was just flying through a school zone. The seat had a large piece missing on the driver's seat. That's okay just let me sit slanted for the next 1500 miles :). The windshield washer hose on the driver's side was broke off and it shot to the car beside me. You know, good to be a courteous driver and wash the cars windshield next to me. However, I had mud splashed on my windshield and had to pull over because I could not see. The A/C! Did not work. Did I mention I was going to Arizona. The A/C worked until I hit Arizona. However, all was not lost. As the sweat upon my brow grew, I rolled down the window. I say 'window' because I was not able to roll down the passenger side....alas just pull over and manually roll down the passenger side window. Why didn't I think of that earlier. Maybe it's because I was too busy keeping my foot on the gas pedal, to the floor, to notice. Why, you ask...or didn't ask. It's because there was no cruise control. No ramp on the truck...so hey I got my bun and knee workout and will hopefully look better....NOT lol. So, as I close out this review, I am looking at pictures of my zesty moving trip. Oh, if you want movers. Budget, lists online as part of your reservation.... RUN, don't click, don't do it. That's another story. Thanks for reading.Review fromGrace A

I don't think anything more could have gone wrong. When picking up, the agent gave me the worst truck on the lot. Duct tape was holding the right mirror in and I was told not to worry about the check engine light that was reported. The agent charged me for the most expensive insurance package when I had asked for the one that just covered the truck, so I was charged an additional $50. On top of that, I was charged an extra additional driver fee. I never drove the vehicle my fiance and father did. Then, he charged me for 2 days for an underaged driver. I told the agent that my fiance who is 20 will only drive the vehicle one day. Overall, there was an additional $100 charged. It gets worse too. We somehow made it to our destination despite the less than ideal truck. When we went to return, we arrived 10 minutes after close, but over 1.5 hours before our drop-off time. The store had a sign posted that said no after-hours dropp-off even though it said we could on the Budget website. It was the whole reason we chose that specific location. We have yet to figure this situation out. Overall, a very bad experience that only added stress to an already stressful move.Budget Truck Rental

Please do not rent from this crooked company. I picked up a truck from them on 9/26 and the truck broke down 2 days later out of the 3. I called on the 2nd day after hours and could not get anyone. Then they finally called me in which I reported the issue. I had to spend 310.00 with uhaul to get another truck and transfer my things from the budget truck. Budget only wants to give me a 30% credit. Going forward I will never do business with them and I'm searching for an attorney.Budget Truck Rental
