in October 2025 I sent my old ****** to a company called NYCphonebuyer. was offered about $65 which was more than the ******* store was offering for trade in value so I went ahead with it. I received the check with that amount back in October, deposited it and it was bounced. I reached out to the company via email on 11/3 and had to send 2 follow up emails because they weren't responding. it wasn't until my second follow up where I threatened calling and speaking with someone, and using a more firm tone in my email, that they responded. on 11/13 the owner told me his "assistant drew the check on a restricted account". (??). and had me choose another way of payment - I chose *****. no response to my email stating I wanted payment thru ***** for THREE MONTHS (February). the response after 3 months was "what's your cash app?" after I clearly stated that I wanted to use *****!!! another month goes by its now March and they email saying they will let me know when they're able to send my payment. at this point its absolutely ridiculous and while it is only a small amount of money, I want my money. two months later (may 27) he says he will update me the following weekend. well, its been three weeks and no update. so I reached out and his response was "we will update you soon". finally, I sent a final demand email on 6/8/25 saying if the payment was not sent by 6/13/25 I would be taking further action, including filing a complaint with BBB.

Order ID# *******. I sent an ****** to NYC Phone Buyer on September 26, 2024 and have not received payment for the phone. February 11, 2025 I received an email stating that the check would be mailed. March 11, 2025 I sent an email stating that I have not received a check. I received a reply stating "We will update you as soon as posible on this. Thank you for your patiene." I have done everthing he has asked me and to date (April 2, 2025) I have not received payment or any correspondence.

    Customer Answer

I do not except NYC Phone Buyer (****** ********) response (we will reach out to the customer to resolve this) as we have had 17 email exchanges and at least 2 phone calls and there has yet to be any resolution.  As I stated in my complaint I received an email stating that the check was going to be mailed.  I feel I am being strung along and would like the $125.00 the company states the phone is worth or return the phone.  I will only accept these two options as I believe any further correspondence with ****** ******** will be futile.

    Business Response

We informed the customer that this device was both ****** locked and financed with ****. The customer never resolved either issue.

After carefully assessing my ***** ****** * watch according to the criteria listed on the NYC Phone Buyer website, I assigned it a condition of "good". It met all of the conditions to be rated "good". That meant that I could expect a payment of approximately $65. NYC Phone Buyer provided a quote of $65 and a free shipping label. They also encouraged me to include any accessories I have, by telling me that would increase the price they are willing to pay. So, I shipped the watch, within the required # of days, in its original Apple box and included its charging cable. On 9/19/24, I received an email from NYCPhone Buyer telling me that my watch is in "fair" condition, and the offer is $30 instead of $65. I did not agree with their assessment and felt that they did not want to honor their original quote. I felt like they purposely mislead me, so that when they got my watch, they were sure I would accept the new, lowball offer. I instead asked them to ship it back to me, since I planned to give the watch to a senior citizen instead of selling it for just $30. They returned the watch. But, they kept my charging cable! I sent them numerous emails asking them to ship me my charging cable, but they never responded. again to me. It's weird how extremely responsive they were when they were trying to entice me to ship them my watch, and how completely unresponsive they were when I was asking them to return my cable. I feel they ripped me off. I need that cable to charge the watch.

    Business Response

    Date: 02/28/2025

no problem we will send the charging cable on Monday and update customer with tracking

On October 18, 2024 I sent my iPhone to NYCPHONEBUYER in exchange for $55.99. I received a check from the company, but when I deposited it, it was rejected. I reached out to the company via email on 11/3/24 and got no response. I had to follow up twice before getting a response on 11/13. They offered sending the money a different way (*****) and I agreed on 12/15. To this day, I have not received my money. I have contacted them via email twice to follow up and they do not respond.

I sent in a phone to be sold and I denied their offer because it was low ball compared to what they originally offered me and told me they would ship my device back as soon as possible and now it has been three months and my device has still not been sent back to me.

I mailed in my phone - 1 TB ****** ** *** *** - in September of 2024. The offer they gave me prior to sending was $920. They were very responsive to emails when I had questions or updates prior to sending my phone it. Upon receiving the phone, they lowered their offer to $825. Nevertheless, I accepted the lower offer on October 7, 2024. They were to pay me through ***** within 2-3 days. I have yet to receive any money 3 months later. I've called, texted, emailed, completed their online communications form, *******, and let ****** reviews totaling dozens of attempted communications to no response from the company or the owner. At this point they've stolen my phone. They owe me $825.99 for the phone they've now had for over 3 months (and have probably already sold to a ). They are criminals!

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The NYCphonebuyers have said this same thing about needing to delay payment since Oct 3, 2024, see attached email chain.I believe they are stalling and not working to pay what they owe me.

NYC phone buyer LLC offers money for used phones that are traded in. On Sept 8, 2024, I have obtained a quote for my ****** ** ***, 512 Gb, Unlocked. The quote was for $610.
On October 3, NYC Phone buyer revised the trade-in offer to $546+$10, which I accepted. The payment was made via check that was mailed to me on October 10.
Unfortunately the check bounced due to non-sufficient funds. I have informed the vendor on October 31 and send them the copy of the bank letter as proof.
After exchanging a couple of emails during November, I asked for NYC Phone Buyer to send me the trade-in offer by ******.
I haven’t received any money to this date and no one is responding to my emails or calls for the past 6 weeks.

I would appreciate if BBB could assist in persuading NYC Phone Buyer to make the payment as promised.
