Today, July 30th, my account was locked for no good reason. I called customer service waited on hold for an hour only for them to tell me that there is nothing they can do to help. The customer service representative A***** laughed at me repeatedly while I was explaining my frustration. The only response I was given was to go into a branch and see if they could help. Unfortunately, it is Saturday and that means I will have to go the entire weekend without access to MY money. There was no explanation given at all.Business Response

I have a 30 year fixed mort including my ins and taxes. My mort was purchased by M&T Bank a few years ago. This is not unusual as many have done so before them.
Often ins and taxes go up or down and the mort co usually offer you the option of prepaying them in full OR rolling them into your next 12 mo of pmts. If I chose the latter; then my mort pmts would increase for the next 12 mo. Usually around the 10th or 11th pmnt; I would be informed of my new ins and tax bills once again and made the same offer if they went up again.
For example:
If my mort pmnt is $1,000.00/Mo, my ins goes up $700.00/yr and my taxes go up $500.00/yr; then I would either have to pay $1,200.00 on the mo they are due in addition to my $1,000.00 mort pmnt OR have them spread out over the next 12 mo making my new mort pmnts $1,100.00/Mo for the next 12 mo. At which time they would go back to $1,000.00 again unless there was another increase or decrease. A decrease would result in a check from my mort co for the excess escrow in my acct and an increase would result in the same choice as before with my mort starting at $1,000.00 again.
This is NOT how M&T Bank operates. They will only allow me to pay the highest one in advance; and the lower one must be rolled into my mort pmnt for the next 12 mo. This wouldn't be so bad either, IF my mort pmnt went back down again after the 12 pmnts had been paid; but it stays at $1,100.00 even if my ins and taxes stay the same or go down. Then, if there is another increase, it gets added to $1,100.00/Mo.
When I told them I'd never heard of such a thing. They said, "That's because other mort co are not operating legally." Can you please confirm this for me? Is it "illegal" for a mort co to 1st increase your mort pmnt to cover your escrow shortage; then reduce your mort pmnt to its original amt once the shortage is met?Business Response

This bank is loaded with problems. Some may not fully understand. To buy a $70 magic the gathering deck specific to modern is unheard of. This bank fees it like it happens all the time. I told them a year ago to ask questions and to do due diligence. They seem to have failed. At this point it's so bad I won't use or trust the card. Blindsiding between the hours of 2:00 pm Friday and 8:00 am Monday I won't use the card at that time. It's cash only as far as I'm concerned, as far as this bank is concerned I'm going against the fees. What they don't seem to fully understand is their fees can't kick in unless they blindsided.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. Regards, **** ******* This doesn't explain why I have a letter saying they want 109.32 for a item I bought years ago. It also doesn't explain why I said if they're going to pull stuff back like that they have to give some time to figure out what it is. I want fee structure somewhat corrected or regulated. The weekends are known for blindsiding. By blindsiding I mean, advances on rent and cable. It can triple if you use the card,if you use cash,the bank can't hold but they tend to retaliate if you will. In this case I paid rent and cable with money orders and I got a letter in the mail from the bank Monday,they literally said I had ample time and they gave me 15 hours and I still have little idea what this specific item is.Business Response

Have checking, savings, loan and credit accounts with M&T Bank for more than 10years. Due to misplacing M&T rewards credit card and not using the credit account for some years, (but continually/always using M&T for checking, savings, loan accounts),my $600 in earned rewards was removed and my Credit account revoked without being informed and while being advised to just keep reapplying for the credit line in order to access my Transferable Earned Rewards of $600. I was not delinquent or neglect towards any accounts. I recently got a call from branch manager to come in for other reasons than my credit line. So again for the 4th or 5th time i attempted to straighten this situation out. Nobody that works for M&T Bank has any knowledge of what to do or how to make things right. Just confused and them asking me all the questions when i need answers and couldn’t afford losing my earned $600. All they say is were sorry that’s unfortunate but its revoked and sorry none of our related departments have any notes, dates, reasons or anything. UnbelievableBusiness Response

Since July 2022, I have received a number of emiall communications stating that I have an account with this bank. I moved from New Jersey in December 2021 and no longer live in the region. It is obvious to me, that some one may have used my personal identity to open an online account with M&T. Today I received another email communicating about my "account". I have never opened an account, don't have an account number and have informed them via email communication to verify who may have opened this account. There has been no response. I am currently on hold today for more than 20 minutes trying to talk with their staff about this however, not sure if there will be any type of assistance in this matter. I called M&T Bank Customer Services (7/29) ###-###-#### a number I obtained from their online website. To resolve this issue, I'd like the account to be closed as I am not a member of their bank and never opened an account.Business Response

On 7/11/2022 I made a mobile deposit to my account at M&T Bank in New Jersey. I have lived in Florida for a year. The bank flagged the check for fraud and has withheld the funds. Furthermore, I have spoken to 4 or 5 customer service reps, and they all say the same thing, someone in the fraud dept will contact me. However, it has been two weeks and no response. They have also not attempted to verify the check with my employer. During these tough times, they decided to withhold funds with no communication.Business Response

Basically, I was a victim of identity theft, checking my bank account statement I saw that there were several fraudulent purchases with my card, including one from a company that I had never heard of **********) the purchase was made on February 14 for the amount of $1387.53, I immediately notified the bank, they initially gave me a provisional credit, later they denied the dispute, and reversed the provisional credit, despite the fact that I provided them with a certified letter from the hospital where I had surgery and in which it is stated that the day of the transaction I was hospitalized, and the respective police report, M&T Bank has so far refused to give me an explanation that makes sense because it continues to deny my dispute.Business Response

I have had a CD with MAndT 4 years and now i am being told it is a dormint account which would be the case because if you touch a CD before maturity you are penalized. On their website there is a reacctivate account button and it does not work. I do not live near a branch but nobody can assist me over the phone to address this. 05/23/22 whent on line to make my camper payment. Account said locked needed new password. Call the 1 800 number they tell me my account is paid in full. I told them i did not pay it off they refused to give me details. They said i would recieve my title in the mail in 10 business days which i did. fast forward two months later. i get get an alert from my credit report saying deliquit account. I call them while on vacation from out of the country. all they want is payment and want to know if the camper is at the address on the account. Very rude on the phone. and not willing to discuss why the issue has accured. This has been the worst experiece ever. they still are not willing to resolve my issues and make restutution for the stress they have caused me and my wife.Business Response
