      We had the misfortune of starting a loan process with M and T bank. I was left dumbfounded and flabbergasted by a man Gerald G**** who, in order to get my loan process started said that he would be able to get me a rate, but when he sent the documents stated a completely different rate. He then proceeds to state that he did not tell me that.

      M&T is the worst. I used ******* for 40 years until their unfortunate sale to the walking disaster called M&T. Read the fine print: for example, in online BillPay, they take money from your account before even delivering your check to the payee. If the payee doesn't cash the check for a while - or ever - M&T just keeps the money without telling you or the payee. To get it back, you have to first find out and then spent your time on hold with "customer service". Watch out for this awful bank.

      I have only been doing business with this bank for 8 months. I have caught them applying all of my payment to interest and zero to principal 2 times. They tried several explanations of why this happened. However they finaly admitted it was their mistake.

      I keep escrow with M & T for my home mortgage which means they're responsible for paying my homeowners insurance. Despite multiple phone calls and emails, they neglected to make the payment on time and now my homeowners insurance has been cancelled. Worst mortgage banker ever..stay away.

      This is the most stressful financial institution I have ever dealt with. Their mistake is going to cost me I don't even know how many weeks of struggle. It totally messed up my bank account for my small business and I'm told that I am completely out of luck in that there's nothing they can do about it. I don't recommend this bank or any other bank for that matter. It's sad how completely corrupt the system is.

      We received in July an escrow analysis saying that our account was under funded based on the taxes we paid in 2023. My husband had just received a VA disability rating and shortly after we filed for our county's homestead exemption which decreased our 2024 property taxes and exempts us from property taxes for 2025. I called M&T to notify them and to provide them with a new tax letter. I was told I would need to wait 60 days for a new escrow analysis since it wasn't an error on their part and I would need to pay the higher mortgage payment previously estimated. Even after the escrow analysis came back with the 2024 taxes corrected, I was still responsible for paying the higher mortgage payment previously estimated. We contemplated making a partial payment while the matter was being reviewed, and we were told that partial payments are not an option. We asked what other options were there and they said that if we default then we could qualify for financial assistance from the VA, but a default gets reported to the credit bureau. We decided to move other things around and pay the full amount for Sept 2024. Today 09/27/2024, I received the new escrow analysis and I noticed that they still show a projection for 2025 property taxes making our mortgage payment still high and funding an account for taxes that is not needed. I called M&T to inquire, I spent 45 minutes on the phone and was transferred 4 times from customer services (even though I selected tax dept from the menu) to the tax department to the escrow department back to the tax department. I was told that their system doesn't allow them to enter zero for the 2025 until my 2024 taxes are disbursed in Oct 2024 to pay the taxes. I was told I needed to call back after the taxes are paid to request zero be enter in their system putting the burden on us. In addition, we are still responsible for the NOV mortgage payment at the higher rate. This feels like unfair business practices. M&T needs a military/Veteran dept.

      If your thinking of a refinance, look to a another lender and NOT M and T. They reached out to me to refinance and I wish they never had. They are my current loan servicer. Had a terrible intake experience with Nate in call center. I asked to speak to manager regarding not receiving calls returned same business day (thus could not lock rate), inaccurate information as it it relates to my loan application, Nate can't calculate debt ratios accurately the first time, had another loans trust information mixed up with my application. In the end I received a call from manager in Rockford IL and was basically told, this is how they do business and didn't seem to focused on customer service and accuracy. I never received any follow up until I reached out again for status. I cancelled application at that time due to customer service by employee and manager. Do your self a favor and DON'T get sucked in by the rate they wont let you lock in at.

      I have been banking with manufacturers and trust for approximately 12 years. During this time I have been completely satisfied. Recently my home had been broken into my Wi-Fi, accessed and most unfortunately my banking account. The treatment that I have received from M&T has been despicable to think the bank that I have put so much trust in has no trust in me is a disgrace.. You cannot talk to the fraud investigating department. You cannot dispute them and you cannot explain. They would not allow me to provide them with a police report! I'm leaving and I am disgusted. Not only was my home robbed, my bank account robbed, My BANK ALSO ROBBED ME. Imagine a disabled WIDOW on SSD driving around the surrounding area (15 mile radius) hitting 5 different gas stations in the same day requiring the need for $500.00 in fuel. Ludacris, disgusting, discouraging, disappointing, and I'm out. Thank you. No thank you. I'm done.

      I just lost my mother a few months ago and was appointed the Administrator of her estate. On August 23, 2024, I emailed copies of her Death certificate and Letter of Administrator for estate to M&T probate office, also I went into the local branch office and gave them copies so I can transfer her money to an Estate account so I could sign checks and pay any debt off. My mother has a home equity line of credit that I want to pay off as Admin of her estate so after bringing her loan payments current (which I walked into the branch office to do) I call the customer service to get a payoff over the phone. I was told that they could not give me any information because my name wasn't on the account, I told them I am the Administrator for her estate they claim they didn't have any record of me as admin and to call the Estate office and submit paperwork that I already did a month ago. How could I open Estate account in her name without the proper paperwork, so I call the Estate office during business hours and as of now I have been on hold for 1 hour 52 mins waiting. I called customer service while waiting 1:52 min to tell them I have been on hold and is anyone in the office, customer service transfers me to the same line which put me hold again and then the line disconnected. I have been customer of M&T for a long time and if this how they deal with someone who has lost a parent I just want to pay off my mother’s debt I don't understand how you do not attach all necessary documents to her account for anyone who pulls my mother account to see. Oh, yes, I am still on hold 2hours and 3mins!

      Sold my home on the 12th and received an email to review and provide comment on how I paid off my mortgage the same day (more evidence that my account has been closed). I called the bank that same day to verify that they would not be charging me for my normal mortgage payment (that would come out on the 15th) and I was advised that I would not be charged. I was charged for my normal mortgage amount today the 16th and was advised by the banker that she showed no debiting to my account and that if there was an error I would be repaid within two weeks. I have no way of verifying their claims so now have to wait an additional two weeks before I know if this has been another lie or not. Trusting a person’s word is everything and this bank has become untrustworthy.
