Called the Customer Service line to verify the routing number for a wire transfer. Sometimes banks have one routing number for checking/savings accounts and a different routing number for wire transfers. Rep refused to give me the routing number.

1 starThis is the absolute WORST experience I’ve ever had. After months and months of going back and fourth, my state finally sent a payment for our mortgage for over 13,000. M&T bank confirmed that they received the payment, processed the payment, and applied it to our account. 3 weeks later the payment was retracted and is now “missing” somehow. I’ve called 4 times, my wife has called 3 times and each time they tell us that “oh we don’t handle that or talk to that department but we can put a ticket in”. Are you joking me? On top of it, most of them are extremely rude and continue to ask us to make a payment. UMMM HELLO, we just made a payment to cover the next 6 months of the mortgage and now you have no idea where the money is, but you’ll put a ticket in. This has to be a joke. No direct lines to anyone that can actually do something or resolve issues, and I get phone calls and letters every other day saying I owe money, along with threats on what will happen if I don’t pay. This is serious. My next phone call will have to be to my attorney Bc I’m done wasting hours and hours and getting no where. Imagine if you made a big payment to someone and they told you “oh I don’t know where that money is but can you send more money ASAP Bc you’re past due“. Sad. 5 starsI have Banked with M & T Bank for the past 20 + years and have nothing but great experiences. There have been a lot of negative comments here but very honestly that has Not been my experience. EVERY employee has treated me with respect and honesty. If there has ever been any kind of issue that I needed help with they have always been super helpful. Could not be happier. Was working with George S**** in the Syracuse, NY area on a mortgage. Throughout the entire process, it was like pulling teeth to get answers about any questions. I was totally mislead and placed into the wrong program (even after inquiring multiple times). Communication was non existant and I was continually given the run around. Incompetent, ineffective, and crooks, I will be sure never to use any of your services.M&T Bank

Used to be with Peoples United Bank over 30 years and M&T took over
M&T is the worst bank I have ever used everything is difficult and time consuming worst customer service in branch and online banking, too many things not worth listing it all.M&T Bank

Horrible experience. Our mortgage was transferred to M&T in April. We didn’t receive anything from them until April 21st. Made the payment (late because of them) and it was sent back for reasons they couldn't even explain. This resulted in many phone calls with nasty customer service representatives. Finally straightened everything out with a pleasant person. What has me really uneasy is that I was outside my house after dark last night. I left the house at 7 am today. Sometime between 9 pm and 7 am, someone had left a very poorly handmade door hanger out of an envelope. The word “confidential” was written in sharpie on the front. The envelope contained a printed note saying “call your mortgage company immediately.” I googled the phone number on the paper and checked my call logs - sure enough it was M&T’s legitimate phone number. I was so thoroughly creeped out. How is that okay? Is it legal? At the very least it’s incredibly unprofessional and creepy. What bank sends someone to skulk around a very rural property between dusk and dawn? If you want to be treated like human garbage and harassed, go ahead and bank with these folks.M&T Bank

Terrible experience and completely incompetent. I paid off my account in full, (4.5 years early). Instead if reveiving the title to my car, I began receiving late notices and then a phone call that I was 30 days overdue. The manager I emailed with proofs of payment never called me back and I was not refunded the additional interest I should have never been charged. Will never bank with them!!!M&T Bank

The bank is Horrible. They took my money last year by accident
It was three months before I got it back. Also I was asking about my debit card
issues the bank manager turned into a smart ass, didn't want to hear what I had to
say period. My account is closed and 10 days later they still have my money.
I would keep my money under my mattress before I would deal with MT again.....
