Terrible experience! I closed on my home 2 months ago and they completely screwed up my escrow due to a large property tax increase, which they were aware of prior to closing and calculated it into my payments originally. There was an escrow shortage because if this, I paid into it at closing, and now they’re claiming they did not know about the tax increase and have BOOSTED MY MONTHLY PAYMENTS $400 MORE! Which they should not be. Their math is completely off and someone at M&T has completely dropped the ball. Now that I’m trying to get it resolved, no manager will reach out to me and they keep just keep passing the ball or blame to another department. It’s simple math, I don’t know how you screw this up, but they managed to and now I’m forced to pay $400 more a month u!til it’s settled. I’ve been trying to get this issue resolved for a month now with no luck!

I've never dealt with such an incompetent bank! M&T Bank is absolutely unprofessional, rude, & full of thieves. I will continue spreading negatively towards this bank through social media & word if mouth. It's been 1 month of pure frustration dealing w/ my issue. Nobody seems to care. And don't go telling me to call because I've tried that method & it went nowhere. I will have to seek legal advice next!M&T Bank

******** Bank reported I had a late payment in December 2022. My payment did not process due to my bank People's United being bought out by M&T Bank and a processing error. ******** Bank did not honor that I had submitted a payment and reported to the credit agencies resulting in a much lower credit score. This is outrageous that M&T said they would honor the old account number and did not, and is under current lawsuits in the state of Massachusetts and that ******** Bank wanted to report to this as a late payment. This payment was not late on my part but a banking error. M&T is a terrible bank. Dishonest bank.M&T Bank

My most recent home purchase loan was sold to this company, and my payment has been late twice, due to the company not withdrawing funds in a timely manner. When I called on 04/20/23 at 0857 am to resolve the matter, the employee hung up on me, when I question late fees being applied and reporting the payment to the credit bureau as late. The staff are incompetent, and try to over talk you when asking about errors on the company part. I hate how home loans can be sold to institutions that are not approved by the consumer, and we are stuck with nonsense and unprofessionalism. I am looking to get my loan far the heck away from this company.M&T Bank

zero stars, take your money and run far away from this so called bank. If you do a bill pay, they deliver to the mail and then have no way of tracking your money. Oh, but they will take the money from your account and hold it until it clears. If they mess up and don't deliver your payment on time or at all, you can "wait longer to see if it happens to show up".....or you can stop payment. You only have to then wait an additional 3-5 business days to unlock your own money back to you.....what a deal! no accountability equals no account.M&T Bank

Question M&T about loan payment being only applied to the interest on my loan. Customer service looked me out of my account for 24 hours and won’t address the concern. Worst bank ever will be refinancing elsewhere and will NEVER use this company again. Sneaky fraudulent people!M&T Bank

(Written on 4/12/2023) I'm not going to write an whole essay as I see the average review is already 1.05/5 stars. Steer clear of this bank. Terrible customer service. Terrible technology (UI is not user-friendly for both desktop site and phone app. If you're applying for a loan through whatever dealer, try to make sure your Lien Holder is not M&T Bank.
They should've/should failed with ********* ***** ******* ****** ****, and whatever bank will be next (I hope it's you, M&T Bank).
Rene F J****, the current CEO of M&T Bank --- et al - Please resign and sell this bank to another entity more capable. You, your executives, upper management, are not capable of providing basic financial services.
My condolences to all who have been, for worst words I will not describe here, been **** over and done-****** ******* ***** **********.

I recently moved across the country to Nevada. They have been locking my account for suspicious activity daily since I got here for the past 3 weeks. I had to sit in the phone over 20 calls with 30 min wait times. I updated my address with fraud support, which did absolutely nothing had to call back 2 hours later yo have my card unlocked. Also one of the customer service representatives told me my card got declined for a chip read error and offered to send me a new card. He never mentioned my card would no longer be active till the new card arrived. Which is a 15 day wait and I quote “because you changed your address”. This bank is the absolute worst. I hope people read this comment and do not bank with M&T. They are taking a toll on my health. I’m on hold with M&T fraud support as I’m writing this review to have my account unlocked. I’m trying to transfer funds to my new chase account and they denied the transaction.M&T Bank

WORST bank on the planet. I concur with the others on the many issues. I can't even close my account because I am not local. Their solution: get the account to zero and we can close it. Well, when you don't have checks and you can only transfer $5K per month it is near impossible based on the amount in my accounts. I'm exhausted dealing with this bank. ZERO stars.M&T Bank

So fed up. I followed the directions provided by a supervisor on 4/5. I was told by my other bank and an M&T branch we called that the solution provided wasn't possible. That branch was going to email me specific instructions. They haven't. What a surprise, no follow through. Also, why provide a "secret" number when all it is is the main customer service line. ZERO service.
