Not only do they make it impossible for you to make a payment without handing over your bank information (routing and account numbers), the customer service agent I recently spoke to was flippant and incredibly rude. She was talking over me and totally unprofessional.
I wouldn't recommend this bank to anyone for any reason!!!!
As for their responses to the comments herein, they don't care and if you call the number provided, expect rudeness!!!

BEWARE WITH YOUR INFORMATION!
I am extremely disappointed with my experience with M&T Mortgage Bank. Recently, they took an unauthorized payment of $1400 from my account without any prior notification, call, or email. This action was completely unacceptable and left me feeling frustrated and violated.
To provide some context, I had made one-time payments over the phone for my grandmother's mortgage, as she was behind on her payments. However, I explicitly chose the option for a one-time payment, assuming my banking information would not be saved or used without my consent. Unfortunately, M&T Mortgage Bank proved me wrong.
What's even more concerning is that I am not even a member of their bank, and my name is not associated with the mortgage in question. The fact that they accessed my account without authorization is a clear violation of my privacy and trust.
When I reached out to their manager, Jeremy, I received no assistance or empathy for the troubles they caused. Not only did he fail to take my information for follow-up, but he also displayed a dismissive attitude. It is evident that M&T Mortgage Bank lacks proper customer care and accountability.
I urge everyone to be cautious when dealing with M&T Mortgage Bank. Their unauthorized withdrawal and lack of communication are indicative of their unprofessional and unethical business practices. I expect a full refund of the unauthorized payment and a formal explanation regarding the mishandling of my personal information.
In conclusion, my experience with M&T Mortgage Bank has been nothing short of a nightmare. Save yourself the trouble and consider alternative options for your mortgage needs.

Understanding what's important. That's in and of itself so frigging darn mother flipping misleading. Had a bank account with them 26 years +. Had a credit line linked to the bank account. 2 partial payments in a row and they closed a 12,500 credit line with a 11,000 balance on it. Been fine since then. No thanks to them. But in my honest opinion. Deslpite being a customer for closer to 3 decades or not. This bank can burnM&T Bank

1 starI had fraudulent charges on my bank account so I had to close my account and update the new bank account info for my M&T mortgage account. M&T attempted to withdraw funds from the closed account which resulted in a 30 day late notice on my credit report. I called to explain the situation and the manager Christine was absolutely rude, continued to talk over me, and refused to help. I asked for a copy of the phone call and she’s advised me to contact my attorney to obtain the recording.Review fromAllison S

1 starThis bank profiled my daughter as a customer. A bank official check from a reputable institution was deposited on 5/15/23.
They placed a 10 day fraud hold on her account, froze her online banking and debit card. She has a real estate closing soon and cannot get access to her funds. All her auto payments attached to this account are being rejected with fees.
THIS IS AN OFFICIAL CHECK THAT CAN BE EASILY VERIFIED BANK TO BANK. Completely unacceptable. If we were a different color this would not have happened. This check was a gift given to her by me, her mother, who has proof of funds.

1 starIf you are a business owner, stay far from M&T. Your business cards will be flagged for fraud with online purchases. There are no autmated 2 way alerts available for business accounts and you will be forced to call and wait for 10-30 minutes. After waiting, make sure you have your tax ID number availabel as it will be asked every time before they can assist, and then its a 50/50 chance if they can remove the flag. Sometimes they will make you go into the branch. which as a business is completely unaccapetable.

M&T mortgage is absolutely HORRIBLE! Have been trying for over five months just to get the correct number from my credit union checking account on my mortgage account so M&T can get paid on time and someone at M&T still types in the wrong number. If someone of any importance from M&T reads this - Please Sell My Mortgage to a bank that knows what they’re doing. If this bank screws up a simple mortgage account this bad i’d take my money out if I were you.M&T Bank
