      If I could give a 0 star I would. This company locks your account from being able to load money from debit/checks without giving you an escalation path to resolve. They **** your account as "risk" without providing you with a reason and refuse to transfer to their fraud department to address said "risk". Absolute garbage customer service who are only good at reading a script over and over no matter what you say to them.

      Applied $210 worth of Amex points to book a Thrifty car rental through Amex Travel. Was given Thrifty reservation # after booking. Used this reservation # to then cancel the booking on Thrifty website. Then received confirmation from Thrifty that my cancellation was fully refunded with no penalty since I cancelled well before their 48hr notice deadline. Now Amex Travel support is not budging, saying the Amex Travel points I used for this are non-refundable since I cancelled direct on Thrifty website and not through Amex Travel. Either way, Thrifty doesnt benefit and I certainly dont benefit. Ultimately, Amex is unfairly stealing my points (worth $210 in monetary value). Really disappointed with this customer service and recommend using strong caution when using Amex Travel services.

      **** is the worst company ever!! they will lie to their customers, a representative told me I will get the upgrade bonus points from Gold to Platinum but it turned out they said they couldn't find the offer after I already upgraded! They checked the recording and I also had the recording, but the only thing they can do is to "educated" the lied representative. I spent more than 20k with the card in first month already and they told me that???? It's not acceptable and tolerant. I will NEVER use Amex and my family will not use the **** again.

      Charged a $550 annual fee, then denied me the introductory offer, and then refused to refund the fee. Criminal! Take your business to Discover or ************ TRUST ME!!!

      American Express does not resolve issues with their defective gift cards. You will spend endless hours on the phone with their call center customer service reps and be ultimately disconnected

      AMEX has the worst customer service in the business of credit. I also believe they has discriminatory practices on credit based on age. I got a card for the sky miles 2 years ago with a $15,000 line of credit. I have charged up and paid off the card (to take advantage of the miles) and had charged about $7,000 more over the past few months, when one day I had a charge Declined!! Why? No notice of anything from AMEX, I had $8,000 in open credit available and the charge was for less than $300. The next day I get a email from AMEX stating that my account is under credit review and I wont be able to charge anything during that time. What?? Never missed a payment (on theirs or any account), credit score didnt change but they decide to freeze my card (even though it showed $8,000 credit available) without cause. After complaining about it and being brushed off they reduced the credit limit a week later to that of my current balance! Now THAT affects my credit! I will pay off my balance and NEVER use AMEX again. This is a terrible business practice- and dont be surprised if this happens to you. I am an Instructor in the ********************** at a ****************. I will use AMEX as an example of poor customer service and lack of hospitality in every course I teach (hundreds of students each semester) for the rest of my career- and I guarantee this will cause many of them to choose a different company for their credit needs and cause a loss of potential business to AMEX that is impossible to calculate. This company needs to be held accountable for the damage they do to their customers credit among other things.

      Disputed a small charge from rogue vendor who would not cancel subscription. They denied and charged me 4X the original charge with fees and penalties and would not refund charges. Finally lost it and cancelled card. They charged wrong checking account for payoff and didn't tell me that it didn't pay off. Racked up even more charges which they would not waive. So guess what Amex, cancelled four other cards, and now working on two other business accounts to close. Lost lifetime customer over a few dollars. Demanded they do not solicit, call, spam again...still doing it so reporting to FTC.

      If there was a chance to rate a -5 rating I would. As a *********************************** zero loyalty credit and charged my account the full annual amount and wont issue a refund I I cancel my card.

      My credit score is roughly 775. Havent been late on a payment in 20 years for anything. One credit card to my name. Let me acknowledge my error also - I didnt notice the adjustment rate after 12 months. It adjusted from 5% to *****%!!!!!! I have a balance of $27k (I used it for points on some bathroom renos). I had the card for two years and kept a balance of around $300.00 so didnt notice the %. At this point, I am paying $1500-2000 a month and the balance barely moves. I call nicely to ask for rate adjustment Im told sorry although this rate seems very high we cant offer you anything at this time. I can pay it but it will HURT and NO REASONABLE PERSON would think the rate would adjust to a loan shark rate! 30%!!! How is this legal?!!! I feel for those who would NEVER be able to get this down and are literally trapped. Absolute BS! The credit card companies are absolutely preying upon people in this economy (Im speaking for all, not so much my circumstance as I should have read the fine print). I tried a balance transfer and they say u have three inquiries this year so we cant.. FYI i had inquiries for a car which I never bought! So I chose to wait and not take a loan and it is held against me. Again - credit and credit cards r a huge indentured servant RACKET.

      Very disappointed in AMEX. I have been a member since 2003 and the ***************** after asking a very simple question, was unable to give me an answer. Its unfathomable how people can do a job but know nothing about what they are doing. This is a basic training issue and for a company of that size its unacceptable!My card, unfortunately was just renewed for its yearly fee, however next March I will no longer be a member of AMEX.
