We went to The *********************************** on 8/25/23 to dine and celebrate a family event. My daughter and her family drove separately and joined us in the *************-20 minutes after we arrived. We parked in the lot across the street that provides complimentary parking between 6pm and 10pm. This was posted but 4 adults in two cars saw this advertised as a complimentary lot and didn't notice we were parking before the period started. We should have paid $6 each for 4 hours of parking but because of our mistakes we were forced to pay $100 for each of the citations.$200 for two citations does not seem like a punishment that fits the crime. I have since researched that ****** charges only $20 for violations like this, if paid within 72 hours.Furthermore, I believe the attendant was on site and witnessed our mistakes. Instead of helping us correct the mistake to properly pay for the service they provide, it appears they actually prefer to take advantage of this mistake because of the outrageous penalties. I don't think it is ok for a business to prey on their customer's mistakes. I am more than happy to pay for our mistakes but I think $100 penalty for a $6 service (times 2) is unreasonable. I think tactics like this are making it difficult for downtown businesses to survive and I hope something can be done about this predatory tactic at this parking lot.Initial Complaint

We used Abm parking to park at ******************. We were promised $20 parking for Saturday night. We parked from almost 6 pm until 11 pm and was charged 44 dollars. The lady at the cashier booth chose not to work with us and passed us on to her coworker who then proceeded to lie and say the rates were mandated by the federal government. Federal government doesnt mandate downtown ********* parking: When we met with the people who provided ** with the ticket, they advertised and told us $20 for the evening.Customer Answer

There is a parking garage connected to a regal cinemas in ***** Square *******. My *********** have been going to the movies about once a week for the past month or so. The parking garage (which has been free for years) was recently acquired by ABM and they are charging consumers in a predatory manner. We all thought the parking garage was free. It is directly connected to the theatre, does not have an operational gate (its wide open), and DOES NOT HAVE SIGNAGE informing the consumer that it is a pay lot or how to pay. I would have gladly paid any fee had I known. One hour ago today (8.7.23), I received a letter in the mail that was postmarked 7.26.23 and dated 7.25.23. The letter informs me that they issued me a ticket for parking on 5.31.23 for $160. When I go online to pay the bill it says it is $240. This is the very first Ive heard that it is a pay lot and that they issued a violation. In the meantime, I have been parking there about once a week, not knowing they would charge me upwards of $1400 for this honest mistake. In addition, the letter says they will assign the debt to a collection agency. I have been working very hard on my credit score and would be devastated if a misunderstanding like this affects my financial health. There is an overwhelming amount of evidence that MANY other people have experienced this exact issue with ABM parking services at this exact location. This is a very common occurrence with thorough documentation, which I believe proves this company is capitalizing on trapping and misleading consumers. I would like to resolve this in a reasonable and fair way: I am happy to pay whatever the original parking fee would have been for the time I parked there between the dates of 5.31.23 and 8.7.23 (today, when I first received the letter informing me that parking is paid.) I would like ALL OTHER FEES up to this date to be dismissed.I appreciate your timely response to this very stressful and frightening situation.Business Response

Hello,
This garage has been a pay-to-park garage since February1, 2023, (See attached) with signage in and around the garage. Please send us your citation number so we can investigate this.
Thank you.

5/6/23 ************************************************* Lot Notice#: ********** Balance due: $160 My elderly mother ****** in said lot for approximately 25 minutes. Upon attempting to pay the $5, 1 hour fee online her credit card payment would not go through (not due to her credit card). She could not reach out to anyone by phone. I attempted to search online for her and contacted the customer support number associated with the corporation and was given an email address. She received a collection notice in the mail dated July 10th 2023 stating she now owes $160. We attempted to go to the web address provided on the letter (does not exist) as well as calling the company number to which we were given an email address again in a recording. I did utilize that email address and got no response. The letter is threatening in nature, threatening immediate impoundment and or being sent to a collection agency. All due to not having functioning payment options for customers or actual customer support. We are happy to pay even the 24-hour fee even though we were there less than an hour. $160 is egregious given it is due to the company's negligence-no customer support.Initial Complaint

Friday July 14th I returned to my vehicle from lunch with a few coworkers to find a contraption on my windshield, with a phone number. An extremely unprofessional & snarky man answered. He grumbled & stated that he was in the car next to us. We turned to see not a man but a very unkempt woman drag herself out of her car. She was puffing on a cigarette, hair a mess, reeked of a putrid smell, had no teeth, and mirrored a meth addict. She stood up and very cocky explained we owed her $100 to take off the windshield contraption. There was no talking to this woman, no conversation other than either give her money or she held my car hostage. We eat lunch downtown often & aren't the type to not pay for parking. Most lots have an abundance of signs, this particular lot has only 1 hidden sign for parking. The woman seemed to take joy in the hidden sign as she demanded her $100. As a mental health and substance abuse therapist the last thing I wanted to do was give this woman drug money, she was also in an aggressive manic mood and we couldn't have a normal conversation without inevitable escalation and aggression. The only option we had was to pay an absurd fee or she threatened to next tow my car. We did not have time to wait for the police in that moment due to needing to get back to work and police were tending to more pressing cases. Before paying and driving off, this woman had the audacity to put her hands on my vehicle that she does not own, she threatened to tow my car, she threatened to break my windshield & cause harm should we do anything but pay her. She did not handle herself professionally in the least. A few days prior to this I just was released from the hospital with severe bronchitis and asthma and this woman had the audacity to blow cigarette smoke in my face jeopardizing my health, additionally she had the gull to profile us saying that she was sure $100 would be no problem for us. Absolutely unacceptable, and zero excuse to treat people this way!Customer Answer

On July 7, 1:02pm, I parked at the *** Parking lot in **************. There was no attendant on ******** do not know how to scan QR codes so I paid for 40 minutes in a machine with my credit card $5.(Choices are 20min, 40min or all day). Went to my meeting in the courthouse with the Prosecuting Attorney. The meeting lasted until 2:37pm. As I've done in the past, I thought as I was leaving the lot, I'd pay the attendant for the extra time I was parked in the lot. There was still no attendant so I paid $7 in the machine (that's for the entire day) so I actually overpaid for the time I was parked there. I went to my car and found a ticket for $68 that shows they issued the ticket at 1:48pm (I was paid up until 1:42pm.) For two years (2019 & 2020), I parked in this lot every time I had a court date for my divorce. I always paid the attendant any additional monies owed when I went to leave the lot. Apparently, I can no longer pay that way; I did not know that. I appealed the ticket as I've actually overpaid; I should have just paid $7 for the day not $5 & $7. They denied my appeal stating I received the ticket due to non payment but I did pay $12. I paid extra on my way out instead of before using the lot.Business Response

As a one-time courtesy, we are voiding the ticket issued (citation #********). Please note for future visits that all vehicles must exit parking lot prior to expiry of paid parking session. An option for All Day parking is available for purchase.
Thank you.

I paid my parking fee via credit card, but got the letter demanding $80. The demand was disputed on the company website. This is an obvious scam and waste of my time. I believe punitive and compensatory damages are warranted. There must be a lawyer willing to go after this firm.Business Response

There was a response email sent out to ****************** with the disputed information thanking him for sending the proof of payment and that there was no money due.
The payment was not attached to his plate in the system causing a violation to be issued.

I parked at an ABM parking lot on E 12th St in ********* ** on May 20 for approximately 3 hours for the 10K race that weekend. I was erroneously told parking was free on that lot, so did not pay. I later received a notice asking for $75 plus a $5 convenience fee. The parking charge would have been $6 otherwise. This seems extortionate. I am certainly willing to pay for my parking, but the charge they are asking seems quite excessive. The notice number is ******. Thank you.Business Response

I stopped in the *** lot on 5th St. in ********* for a short period of time as I wanted a safe location to sit in my car for just a few minutes. I attempted to pay the parking fee, but it would not accept my payment and since I was staying the car for just a few minutes, I figured it was not a big deal. I received a text about a week later from an unknown for $80 with no due date. Obviously, everyone knows not to click a link and enter payment info and I figured it was a scam because of the lack of information provided. **********, I contacted the companys phone number 5 separate times in case this was a scam, but never once received a response. I also emailed them with no luck either. Over a month later, I received a letter in the mail (to a completely different state) for $160, comprised of the $80 original fee and a now assessed $80 late fee. How there can be a late fee assessed when no due date on payment is provided is a predatory practice. The letter threatened to send me to collections, however *** tried to get in contact with them multiple times to find a resolution or pay the initial parking fee, but it has seemed impossible to get in touch with anyone. This criminal practice needs to be fixed and I would be happy paying the original parking fee if their machine was working, yet due to their machine malfunctioning and their predatory business practices I am now stuck with a $160 ticket with no recourse available to speak to someone regarding this situation.Customer Answer
