My financial planner was fine. I am trying to transfer my funds to another company, though, and it's like pulling teeth. I had my new financial planner on the phone with me and an Equitable corporate employee and he was INCREDIBLY rude to my new planner. That interaction definitely let me know I was making the right decision by leaving Equitable.

I requested a rollover of my 403b account with ********************** on April 5, 2024.The account was closed on April 10th and according to Equitable a check was sent to Voya my new account on April 11th. Here it is April 29th and still no check.Either the US postal service is the slowest in the world or my money is sitting in a short term interest account controlled by, you can guess.Nothing like a few visits to a school's faulty room to spread the word how this company operates, a few less clients might wake them up.

If there was a zero star they would definitely receive it! This company is not good, you never receive your funds in a timely manner and they do nothing but harassment and want one thing after the other even though you have provided enough paperwork legally to receive your funds. They changed the doctor's dates of when you might return to work to benefit themselves. My doctor put I would be out 3 months they changed it to two and a half weeks earlier than what the doctor stated and decided they had to put a date down? If they did why didn't they put the doctor's date down instead of one they made up? I will cancel this company and I will be going somewhere else. They are not worth the hassle and the time it is better to expect nothing from them then it is to pay them and still get nothing from them! I'm still waiting on my money although I've returned to work 3 months later! Even though I was approved! I definitely do not recommend this company to anyone.

As a teacher, delving into retirement planning has been an eye-opening journey, revealing the predatory nature of 403b plans, particularly those offered by Equitable. It's alarming to witness how these plans target vulnerable demographics like educators with what can only be described as questionable "retirement" schemes. Through thorough investigation and personal experience, it's become clear that these plans often promise minimal to no growth due to undisclosed annuity costs, masquerading as investment opportunities while primarily serving as fee collectors.Reflecting on my journey, had I been aware of these practices back in 2017 when I started my career, I would have steered clear of enrolling in such a plan. It's disheartening to think about the potential financial impact this may have on others who are similarly unaware.Speaking from personal experience, I've witnessed far more substantial growth in recent months by reallocating my contributions to a mutual fund compared to the stagnant growth I experienced over the previous seven years with Equitable. Despite assurances of aggressive investment strategies, minimal gains were realized until I took the initiative to switch my investments independently. The revelation of previously undisclosed fees, such as the "death benefit fee," only adds to the disillusionment. While legal actions have been taken to address such deceptive practices, the settlements offered often feel inadequate given the magnitude of the issue. This reinforces the belief that withdrawing funds from Equitable may be the best course of action for those affected. For those teachers who are interested in learning more, I highly recommend exploring the resources provided by 403bwise. Their advocacy rating system and educational resources offer valuable insights into navigating the complexities of retirement planning and avoiding predatory schemes.

Horrible customer service. You will never receive your funds in a timely manner. I have spoken with them multiple times and they reassured me that I would see my funds in 3 to 5 business days. I am going on three weeks, still no funds. Do waste your time or money on this company.

The worst Dental insurance. With other insurance companies, I've never had a reason to call about my dental coverage, it always made sense. This is NOT the case with Equitable...who can't seem to get anything but the most basic claims right. If you have anything unusual, they'll deny the claim. For instance, my wife is double insured, one policy with another insurance company (her job) and one with Equitable (my job). Her dentist recommends three cleanings a year. Prior to my job having Equitable, the two companies were able to coordinate and always cover the three cleanings (since each has a two visit limit). Not Equitable, they denied her claim stating too many visits despite the fact that they had only paid one visit in the prior 13 months. I called and the customer service agent agreed that their accumulator seemed to get it wrong and it would be resubmitted and should be covered...but that was 4 months ago, six additional calls and two other agents saying the same with it still not resolved.I had oral surgery they paid MORE than my plan limit so my surgeon voided the check as directed by Equitable an overpayment and was told an new payment would be forthcoming. That sat for 6 months before I called...then seven calls to them (and just as many failed call-backs on their part) and an additional 3 months (9 months in total) to get that resolved.

I have been trying to withdraw my funds for 8 years, and this issue still isn't resolved. When I most recently reached out to customer service, the agent indicated that there's nothing she could do to help and no one she could send me to for more information, then ended the chat abruptly. To make matters worse, Equitable has been charging fees on the account for the duration of the dispute--at this point, I have paid approximately 50% of the account's value in fees as I continue to attempt to withdraw my funds. I fear that there won't be anything left by the time Equitable grants me access.
