    Complaint Regarding Mismanagement of Payment Arrangement.Dear BBB,I am writing to file a complaint against Central Hudson Electric for their mismanagement of my payment arrangement. Despite making my first payment and setting up a payment plan over the phone, my account was sent to collections without any follow-up from the company.I have attached the email communication from Central Hudson **************** for your reference. This situation has caused significant inconvenience and stress.Resolution Sought: I request that Central Hudson Electric acknowledge the payment arrangement I set up, remove the account from collections, and ensure that the payment plan is honored. Additionally, I seek assurance that this situation will not negatively impact my credit score. I have been working diligently to build my credit, and this has highly affected ******** Concerns: The act of sending an account to collections after a payment agreement has been established may violate contractual obligations and consumer protection laws. According to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), consumers have rights that protect them from unfair debt collection practices.     At this time, I have been contacted directly by Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. regarding complaint ID ********, however my complaint has NOT been resolved due to the following reasons:

    1. Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. has failed to adequately address the issue outlined in my complaint.
    2. The company proceeded to send my account to collections without providing proper notice, in violation of standard billing and notification procedures.
    3. Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. claims to have sent a notification letter, but it was dispatched to an incorrect address, thus failing to inform me properly.
    4. This series of actions occurred subsequent to the establishment of a mutually agreed-upon payment plan, further exacerbating the situation.

    Please record this information in your records accurately.

    10/5/24 - cancelled and completely settled account by phone upon moving to a new home 12/5/24 - Charged $200 without reason or attempted contact During last contact: cancelled all services (moved away from area) and confirmed by phone that the account was fully settled. Cannot access my account to view any details, and the charge is listed as "recurring" in my bank statement.

    In the beginning of 2023, my tenant in Apt 2 requested service from central Hudson for Gas and Electric around the same time, I requested a meter install for my first floor basement Apt 1 which has been fully gutted without no electrical wires or connection in that unit. In October 2023, I received a bill in the amount of ******* for Apt 1 for gas and electric. I never any gas connections or electric connectors in that apartment. I called Central Hudson for months to inform them that they have billed the wrong apartment, they sent their technician to verify the apt was vacant. Following their verification and my tenant ******* along with his wife ******************** who confirmed it was their gas and electric bill that have been mixed with my apartment, Central Hudson never remove the bills from under my name. I have called Central Hudson since Dec 2023, I have been put on hold to speak to a senior **** then informed that I was right and the bill will be removed and fixed, again that was never resolved. In the recent months despite being informed by Central Hudson that the bill will be transferred back to my tenant in apt 2, it was instead sent to collection agency which ruined my credit. Central Hudson have put me on hold every time I called awaiting for a senior counselor and for the last few months they provided no remedy to resolve the nightmare created in my life.

    I have had my solar installed since 7/2023 and Central Hudson has refused to allow activation. This system has be install with othe lr electric companies and has had no problem getting the approval for activation for service. I fell that central Hudson has been purposely delaying the approval to make more money on solar customers. Now my current ********************** bill is twice the old rate from last year and I have a solar payment also. This needs to be resolve with Sunpower. Project CH-*****

    I receive 2 bills per month from Central Hudson. 1 for my main house and 1 for my pool house. I paid both bills on 6/17/2024. The pool house bill for ****** posted, but the main house bill of ****** never showed as paid. When I asked they said it was in remittence, but my bank records showed it was transfer to Central Hudson on 6/17. They is no one to speak to at Central Hudson and there web site help has hung up on me and I even went to there headquarters, but no one is allow in unless you work there.

    I have lived at this location for 3.5 years during that time I have been paying Central Hudson every month only receiving bills for the first few months after going on the budget program, I have paid thousands of dollars all of a sudden I get a bill for $4200.00 I cannot pay this amount why all of a sudden please help

    Our Central Hudson bill has been very erratic during the past few years and some billing periods the amount was extremely higher than usual with no change in our usage that we can account for. We have two accounts. One account bills monthly (Studio: ************) and one bills bi-monthly (House account: ************ . I have attached copies of the payment histories for the two accounts. The bills that I am refuting for the bi-monthly bills for the HOUSE (*********** )are:1/20/23 $588.25,1/19/24 $466.47. The bills I am refuting for the monthly amount of the STUDIO bill ( ************) are:5/20/22 $153.13, 11/21/22 $102.29,1/20/23 $290.42,3/22/23 $275.49,3/19/24 $188.08.

    Central Hudson had a bill for 2 months after I had moved away (and cancelled my service which I have documented proof of) They never sent me a letter or anything (they claimed they had my address wrong) I got a hit on my credit for 24 points because they sent a 500$ bill to collections against me when it was not my bill and I was no longer a tenant there. When I tried to clear it up, they would not listen and were extremely rude on the phone. I had to seek the help of a credit bureau company to fight this ******************* on my credit and it cost me an additional $350 This issue has caused problems with me buying a new vehicle because my credit dropped down so much and I have had to pay money into get it resolved when it was never my problem in the first place

    Central Hudson placed us on a budget plan of $402 monthly for electric and heating/cooling services. I paid that monthly for the year of 2021, but in December 2021, received an additional bill for roughly $1200, which was explained to me that it was for "overage" charges about our monthly bill amount, and was paid in full as of mid January 2022. We sold that house and moved out of state on January 23, 2022. I received a forwarded bill in the amount of roughly $1100 around March/April 2022. When I called to question this, I was told it was for overage charges for the month of January 2023. Despite my questioning this bill, it was paid in full and had not received any other notices from Central Hudson. Upon checking an online credit service in April 2024, a bill of $638 was reported from Central Hudson as unpaid and sent to a collections department, which resulted in my credit score taking a 27 point hit. I was not only unaware of this bill, but had not received any notices from Central Hudson, or the collections agency prior to seeing this information. When I called to speak to Central Hudson about this on three separate occasions, I was told that I was either being transferred or would receive a call back from a "senior agent", but have yet to speak with anyone who could help me regarding this *********************. One agent stated that it was because my address had changed, so she corrected it in their system, but they also had my email and phone number correct initially. This has significantly impacted my credit score, as other creditors with which I was in good standing have started to decrease my credit limits due to a remark on my credit, further impacting my credit history and lowering my score. I would like to know why I had a bill in the first place, why I was not contacted regarding this bill at all, and why I was not aware that it was being placed in collections. Any help in order to resolve this matter would be greatly appreciated!

    To partially resolve the issue and prevent further damage, I still had to pay the bill in order to repair my credit, which was damaged as a result of this bill. Despite my inquiry, I received no explanation as to why the charges were initiated, other than "this is the amount that was owed". I also did not receive any explanation as to why there were no attempts to contact me prior to sending the bill into collections. I feel as though the company took advantage of a paying customer and charged much more than afar was owed. However, I received no specific proof of what the charges were a result of.

    4/5/2024 Central hudson stating i owe *******, when back in November 2023 i had credit for 800 and called them to verify. They said was credit and now i m getting a bill for *******. The billing system needs to be fixed. How can i have a credit of 800 and then owe *******.
