Back in August, I had roto-rooter come out to flush my lines because resin beads leaked. It was also suggested I replace the water softener because is was no longer good since it leaked out. The plumber Ray T***** is the one who came out. He was very nice, answered my questions and if I have any problems to call him directly. He said not to worry he will be there for us. I did yesterday and my calls aren't being returned. I called the office and asked to speak to a manager and I was told he would call me back in 2-3 hrs. It’s now going on 4 hrs. This is what I was charged. 1. $3,487 for labor and warranty of replacing the water softener 2. $1,980 to flush the lines. 3. Cost of water softener was $1,496 ( **** **** has it for $600) 4. So the labor total was $5,467 Parts ( water softener) $1,496 40% discount on labor. 5. Total bill $4,899 I have an autistic daughter and it has been on my mind since the install I feel I was taken advantage on costs and over-assured from Mr. T***** to not worry. That this was the best water softener to install. I felt I had no choice to not get a second opinion because no other plumber I had called before roto-rooter was booked out and I needed this done because of my daughter. This isn't right. The bill for replacing a $600 water softener and to flush lines is $4,899! If he didn't give me a discount, it would have been $7,000! Does this look right to you. The only reason why I did not call sooner is because my autistic daughter has been having health issues and that was more important at the time.

A very nice tech, Chad, came and checked out our pipe outside of the garage because it was leaking water. He snaked it and said we had 24 hours to call if anything happened. That night my husband did a load of laundry and the water came out of the pipe again. I called the number that we were given (**************). We were told that a tech would be at our house the next day. That Wednesday, nobody came. I received a call from one of your customer service reps a little after 10 PM to schedule an appointment. That was way too late and it woke me up. That Thursday someone was supposed to be here and nobody showed up. That Friday I got a call that someone was supposed to be here and nobody showed up. We haven’t heard a thing from Roto and we’re ******. This is beyond unprofessional. Imagine paying over $400 for that type of horrible service.

I went through a great deal of frustration with other resources before calling Roto-Rooter. My sewer was backing up in one of my rainwater drains. I spoke with, or had visits from, my sewer insurance company plus their associated plumbing company, the City of *********, the ********* Sewer System (neorsd), Wastewater Management, and an independent sewer cleaning company, trying to determine where my sewer line was as well as the "cleanout". Different "experts" located different places the cleanout might be and offered differing theories about the problem. When I called Roto-Rooter I was told "we will figure out what the problem is and we will fix it". And that is exactly what happened. Garry's family had been residents of the area and he was able to explain that in this neighborhood the sewer and stormwater lines were combined and most homes did not have cleanouts installed if they were built before 1978. His crew checked out six of my lines until they found the blockage (tree roots) and were able to break through that. The other lines were cleared as well of their sludge. It was suggested that I have a cleanout installed so that future sewer clogs can be cleared more completely and efficiently. (I plan to do so.) I am a single 73-year-old lady, and I cannot adequately express how much these professionals relieved my stress and confusion. If you are looking for professionalism and knowledge from a company, give these folks a call!

I’m filing claims for insurance fraud on behalf of a 86 year old in *** ***** California. This is extortion. They use Predatory practices. She called a plumber to fix a leaky toilet and paid 290.00. Ok sounds fair enough in San Jose ca prices. Then they sent some guys to hang up tarps and set up some machines to filter the air because they say there is mold and left it there a week then came and got equipment. They had her sign a iPad at some point. They talked to her insurance company and found out her insurance wasn’t paying and now they are charging her 5000.00. Just sent her to collections and the collector called today and called her a liar. I had just finished talking to her social worker and she found out her food stamps were getting cut because her social security went up because her husband died. So they certainly didn’t tell her or explain she would be on the hook for 1000’s of dollars. they told me they could be charging 20,000. and she was lucky. Literally still has water and leak stains on walls. No sheet rock replaced, no flooring touched or paint or repairs of any kind were done. Looks exactly the same as when they came. She is not paying the bill. She can’t pay the bill. I called and told the collector not to contact her again. There are lots of plumbing companies. Don’t call roto rooter especially in the Bay Area.

Terrible experience trying to pay the bill, we had called in multiple times to try and pay and every time was met with a voicemail. Weeks go by and I get a call that if we don't pay by the end of the day there would be a lean put on our house. We were ready to pay weeks ago and could not get anyone on the phone to pay, and the lady we worked with to pay told us said she had never got a voicemail. We have both call and email records of us trying to pay for weeks. The only thing that got them on the phone was leaving a voicemail tell them how upset we were to receive a threat of a lean against our house. I would never recommend working with this company for anything and this is the first time I have ever written a bad review for anyone. The only good thing I can say is that the Dry wall people the recommended did a good job, however they are not associated with Roto Rooter.

Roto Rooter, your company's actions have left me utterly appalled. The experiences I've endured have convinced me that your practices are deeply embedded in a culture of deceit, discrimination, and price gouging. This goes beyond a mere misstep; it's a systemic issue that strikes at the core of your company's ethics.I was compelled to utilize your services, only to be subjected to what I can only describe as a maelstrom of fraudulent activities and manipulative pricing. Conversations with your management only further eroded any trust I might have had when they, to my dismay, blatantly lied to my face regarding your services and products. My grievances don't end there. A simple price comparison with your competitors revealed an egregious price disparity. The very same services I procured from you were available from neighborhood companies at a fraction of the cost you charged, an inexcusable offense. The outcome was so unsatisfactory that I had to seek the help of another company to rework the job you initially performed. Not only did this alternative provider do a far superior job, but they did it at a price that actually aligns with reality. It's difficult to put into words how deeply disheartening this experience has been. Your company, in my eyes, represents pure capitalism, a profit-driven endeavor at the cost of honesty, integrity, and fairness. In the end, I'm left with the strong belief that Roto Rooter, given the extent of its unethical behavior and misrepresentation, should not continue to exist in its current form. The issues I've faced mirror the concerns raised by countless past and recent customers on the Better Business Bureau platform. I can't stress enough the need for a comprehensive review and a meaningful rectification of these issues. Roto Rooter must take a hard look at its practices and pricing, aligning them with market standards and its stated commitment to quality, customer service, and values.

Absolute scam company. Charged me $500 to snake a line and couldn't fix it twice. Then they wanted another $1300 to jet the line with no guarantees. I get a call from their "water mitigation team leader" and he told me on the phone that they would send a crew to demo the water damage and dry out my basement. He filed a claim with my insurance in front of me, then didn't help me at all since. I just got a giant $2800 bill for them to do a couple hours worth of work. They cut up some carpet, flood cut a wall, destroyed my vanity, then put some fans and a dehumidifier in my basement. The dehumidifier failed and poured water everywhere. They claimed no money out of pocket and they would deal with my insurance company and have it all covered. In reality this was a high pressure sales tactic and they did the worse possible job to begin with. The workers were rude, talked trash about other workers and the company, very unprofessional. If my insurance doesn't cover this I'll see them in small claims court. I am left with a destroyed basement, no fixed plumbing and $3000 in bills. Avoid at all costs.

He charged me $1877 and an extra $25 for paying in cash!!! This company refuses to refund me and they will be hearing from my attorney.

Scheduled apt with Rotorooter for a 2nd opinion on my hot water heater. I called and verified that it was a free estimate. 1st tech another company. Rotorooter sent a tech out that laid on my floor in front of hot water heater. I realized that my hot water heater light was blinking and had my kids check the hot water. He did nothing and tried to charge me $300. I told him it was a free estimate he did nothing and he did not care. I told him to leave, kicking him out of my house in front of my two small children. My son was home from the military and had been in bed under the covers but overheard the entire conversation and the tech had no clue! Rotorooter techs are disgusting scam artists that need to be investigated. This causes emotional damage to innocent women and children. Disgusting
