Deeply regret using Roto-Rooter in Livonia/Northville MI for a flooded basement 'restoration.' They respond quickly to get you on contract them everything - I mean EVERYTHING - goes rapidly downhill. I only saw my 'Project Manager' the day I signed the paperwork - he wouldn't even respond to phone calls thereafter. The restoration team always arrived late and on some days simply didn't show which is not good when you have 3 days to dry out a basement. I could list many, many issues that they simply ignored or would not respond to. My insurance agency owner put it far better than I could: he described Roto-Rooter as, by far, the worst company to deal with. Said they have the worst reputation within the industry, charging 3x what most capable contractors charge. His claims adjuster uses the words 'nightmare' and 'horrible' to describe his experience with Roto-Rooter. Be clear: Roto-Rooter does not "restore" your flooded basement. They try to dry the carpet (if they bring power cables for the dehumidifiers), tear your carpet as they remove the padding, and remove the molding then leave this in your garage for a professional to reinstall. Ask your insurance agent and look for a proper restoration company. Roto-Rooter is not one of them.Roto-Rooter

1 starAVOID AT ALL COSTS! They gold plated many areas of the invoice, charging for services that were completely unnecessary. This resulted in thousands of dollars of services that were beyond the initial estimate. My insurance and a 3rd party estimator believed the charges should have been 1/3rd of the invoice amount. After an initial negotiation, they came down on their pricing slightly in an effort to settle without acknowledging over charging. Then, never communicated that I had X days to accept their offer even though they sent an updated invoice. Then, when we pointed back to additional excess charges (e.g., CAT3 services when this was a CAT2 loss, charging 8 hours to move furniture that they didnt even do), Cayce said they were going to revert back to the original invoice amount and threatened to add more charges. Numerous emails went unanswered. Terrible communications. If you want to be treated fairly, this isnt the place. There are plenty of other water mitigation companies. My only recourse is to leave reviews and file complaints. Do yourself a favor and dont let this company take advantage of you in an emergency situation.Review fromCarrie and Robert R

We called Roto Rooter at 7:43 for an emergency toilet issue. Our only toilet in the house had the mother of all clogs. We were told by dispatch that they had a two hour window between 8:15 and 10:15 and they would call when they were 15 minutes away. We gladly took it. But never saw anyone and never got a call. So at 10:11 we called dispatch back. Dispatch patched us through to the service person who was supposed to have called us. He lied and said he tried to call us but we didnt answer and he could cone out in the morning. We declined. We'll be going with someone who won't lie to their customers. I have a screenshot of my calls. This guy deserves fired!Roto-Rooter

We contacted Roto-Rooter to try to solve an issue with our sump pump backing up. They installed a new sump pump (fine, probably needed), and said they would come back the next day with a snake and camera to investigate the clog issue. The next day, they claimed that their equipment was getting damaged and the blockage must be a collapsed pipe, quoting us $8800 for an exploratory dig for. 4 stretch of ground. This seemed off, so I brought in another company for another opinion, and they cleared out the blockage (roots, but a lot of them) for $850. Ultimately, we can either charitably conclude that the company is incompetent and unable to clear a block in the drain despite their constant claiming of being the best in business for 100 years, etc, or we can conclude that they were lying because they wanted a big commission check. Either way not who I want to hire.Roto-Rooter

Our neighbor contracted with Roto-Rooter of Springfield, VA to repair her sewer line, including excavation in a publicly-owned right-of-way (street). Instead of fixing her issue, Roto-Rooter illegally severed our sewer line from its connection to the county-owned main sewer line and attached our neighbor's in its place. To be clear, Roto-Rooter cut our sewer line from the county main and left it completely disconnected from...anything. It was completely nonfunctional. Roto-Rooter also made a series of code-noncompliant "repairs" to our sewer line, which is in very close proximity to our neighbor's, including splicing in several sections of new PVC to our original terra cotta pipe, which is against code. Furthermore, they failed to obtain the necessary county permit for the work, which meant there were no inspections during the project. Rather, the inspection occurred almost two months later when everything was put back and paved over. This resulted in an unpermitted construction violation issued to our neighbor. And if all that weren't enough injury, Roto-Rooter added further insult by failing to properly backfill its roadway excavation, which meant that when we went to re-excavate and fix the damage Roto-Rooter caused to our line, a large part of the street caved in, which increased the scope and cost of our already-expensive project by 50%. To be clear, none of the work we had to do would have been necessary but for Roto-Rooter's incompetent and illegal work on our sewer line. The local branch manager denied in writing having done anything to our line, but now they're having to come back to re-excavate our neighbor's sewer line to repair what they should have repaired in the first place. We have zero confidence they won't damage our sewer line again. All of this is well documented, and we have communicated the misdeeds Roto-Rooter committed to every appropriate state and county regulatory body.Roto-Rooter

This is the assessment of what occurred during the plumbing emergency for ****** ******* Mortuary. On May 31st, 2023 around 10:20pm, I received a call from Ms. ******* that the plumbing was backing up in all of the mortuary bathrooms. I proceeded to call several emergency plumbing contractors and Roto Rooter was listed in the area for emergency calls. I called them and they dispatched a technician who arrived on site sometime after 12:00am. The technician proceeded to jet the lines, after I had a conversation with him explaining where he may find the clean outs. He said that the lines were clear about 2:29am and explained to me that the camera saw a blockage in the line. I asked him, were you able clear it out? He said that he would have to have one of the supervisors come in the morning to take a look at it to give us a price for the final repairs. The next morning the supervisor arrived and provided an explanation on what was occurring. We understood and asked for the cost on getting it repaired, he stated that they would prepare an estimate and the company will send it to us. We did not receive that estimate. However, less than 24 hours of them unblocking the line, it was completely clogged once again and we called them back out to help resolve the situation. They refused to do any work without additional payment at that particular time and we did not feel that this was acceptable within 24 hours of their last “repair”. The supervisor instructed the technician to leave the site without resolving the problem. I would never expect that a company like Roto Rooter to neglect providing excellence in customer service and completing the job. In conclusion, we would like to speak with someone who has the authority with Roto Rooter so that we can negotiate what is a fair price for the services rendered.Roto-Rooter

I requested service for a basement bathroom. The toilet drain pipe would overflow with toilet, sink and/or shower usage. Sink and shower were right next to toilet. The shower would drain slowly and the sink drained normally but use of either toilet, sink, or shower resulted in overflow. Technician cleaned main line (toilet line) and solved overflow problem, he then tested main line with no problems. A couple of days later I used shower and water would not drain at all even after 48 hours, this resulted in second service call and roto rooter claims this was a "New" problem. While I can reluctantly accept that this was a separate issue what I can't accept is why this wasn't addressed in the first service call. It is not as if this was in a different room in the house. All three pipes were within 5' of each other and while there may have been a separate issue in two different pipes the problems were connected. In fact, the shower drain was made worse from the cleaning of the main drain--that is the shower drain did drain water prior to the first service (albeit a little slow) and did not drain water after the first service. What upsets me is that RR then charges a fuel service charge on bother services. They charged $10 (up to 20 miles) for first service and $20 (over 20 miles) for second service. They said second technician was in ******* (I live in **********, **) when dispatched. Why should I have to pay more because someone in ******* orders service prior to me? Makes no sense!!! I addition, I'm have to pay twice because the job wasn't completely done on the first attempt. 2 stars, because while they ultimately cleaned the lines and they work fine now it took them two attempts, charged me extra for their failures, and charged me more because someone in ******* was the service call ahead of me.Roto-Rooter

5 starsThese guys are awesome! Nothing but professional, easy to understand and do business with. I had a partially flooded basement from a busted water heater and in contacting Roto-Rooter through **** ***** I knew that this job was going to get done the right way. I also work for a property in Northampton where I recommend Roto-Rooter all the time. I talked to a guy named Dan who is the manager and I knew that anybody from that company showing up to put in a new water heater for me down in the basement was going to be done right, on time, and it was going to work the first time! Thank goodness there's a company like that out there.
