      I would rate this company lower if I could. I had a leak under my sink and was told that there would be a $99 charge just to come out to the house. As I had difficulty finding anyone to come out, I felt I had to pay that cost. This started on a Friday and they could not come out until Monday. I had to turn off my water from the cutoff in our garage, and turning it off broke the valve. I shared this with the tech when he arrived and was told that it would cost $500 just to determine what was going on. Again, I felt I had no option at that time. By the time that the price gouging ended, we had a bill of nearly 5K, an open wall and cleanup work of garbage left behind by the technician. I would highly suggest finding any other plumber or doing the work yourself before walking into the same situation I found myself in.

      Great company, I had an issue with my toilet being backed up and the technician came in within 2 hours, assessed the problem and provided me with a quote to fix the issue. 3 hours later we had no more toilet problems. His character was friendly and professional, really recommend this company.

      On 18 May I phoned Roto-Rooter and explained that my ****** Tankless Water Heater stopped working due to an error code 14 (thermal fuse defective). A Roto-Rooter technician arrived a couple hours later and told me that I would need a new Heat Exchanger. He also said, he contacted the manufacturer (******) and a ****** representative said, "the Heat Exchanger is under warranty, but they would not cover it because failure of the Heat Exchanger is due to lack of maintenance." He went on to say...the total cost to repair my water heater with a new Heat Exchanger, and thermal fuse would be $2,945.00. I asked to itemize the cost starting with the Heat Exchanger. He said, the Heater Exchanger cost would be $1,200.00. I told him, I had just researched the cost of ****** Heat Exchangers for my unit this morning and it was $495.00. He said, Roto-Rooter marks up the cost for parts. Then he said, he and his supervisor recommend that I replace the ****** with a ****** Tankless Water Heater, cost would be $4,800.00 - $5,200.00. I phoned ****** representative. He said, no such call took place from Roto-Rooter. At that point I asked the Roto-Rooter technician to leave. ****** gave me contact information for a legitimate service provider and I phoned ******* Plumbing Service in Gloucester VA. He came out to my home in ************, confirmed that the Thermal Fuse needed to be replaced, ordered a new fused from ******, and came back on a Saturday and replaced it. My ****** Tankless Water Heater is working fine now. The total cost for the part and labor was less than $300.00. After reading many of the other complaints about Roto-Rooter on this site, my question is: Why does the State of Virginia allow unscrupulous businesses (in my opinion) to obtain licenses that are then used to operate throughout the State to abuse its citizenry?

      Roto-Rooter corporate office and employees lied to me when they promised to give me an itemized bill so I could attempt to file an insurance claim. They lied multiple times. They also broke a light fixture and didn't tell us which was discovered right after they left. Additionally, their trucks left a gouge out of our asphalt at the bottom of our drive. They have failed to reply to any of these complaints with having ample time to respond. Their price was extremely high and it took them a lot longer to complete the job then what they quoted. Thy left dust and concrete (a poor concrete job) an shelves pushed aside and sawed in half and doors off of hinges. Do NOT use Roto-Rooter!

      The technician came out today and quoted us $1400.00 to clear our main line. We declined and had another company come out and they did it for $161.00 in less than 30 minutes. The price difference is as disgusting as the plumbing issue itself.

      Called them to replace a leaking faucet after they arrived they told me I had mold and moister in the air and they had to remove my cabinets to treat it so not knowing I agreed come to find out I was blindsided didn’t have mold or moisture now they want to charge me for work that they didn’t do because I stopped them people don’t believe everything they say because I also found out that they work on commission the more they do the bigger they check it’s a hoist don’t be fooled like I was get other options if I could give a zero that is what they would get

      Had a flood in my basement toilet. Called Roto-Rooter because I saw they were always available. First guy came out, "cleared" out the back up through the main line out to the street and called it a day. A second worker was supposed to come that night with a camera to find out what the issue was. He never did. The following night the issue started again with the water coming up through the basement toilet but this time we were able to stop the flow in time. Called Roto-Rooter the following morning and they came out again. This time the plumber was accompanied by a guy with a pipe camera. Again the worker "cleared" and "cleaned" the drain. Now it was time for the cameraman to see what the issue was. It was obvious from what he was showing that neither plumbers did anything but "push" the issue further down the pipe. When we finally got through to the back up it was mainly just toilet paper. So the water now started to flow and it was clear. As we looked further he explained that my main sewer pipe was compromised and broken at the bottom, causing the back-up. In his words it was a bad situation and that we should not use the house water until we fix the pipe. His response was to replace the line for $40k or they could rebuild a pipe for $17k. I had heard from several people that their fix was about 4 times less. And as you can read in the complaints below the numbers they give are all over the place. I then called a local plumber (what I should've done in the first place) and he came over. Not only did we again look at video but he showed me the end he'd use on the snake to clear the pipe. My #1 complaint is that neither of the workers cleaned or cleared the pipe. He explained all the pipe needed was a good cleaning and that I did not in fact need a whole new pipe. Called and spoke to a manager once but he was no help. The main person Pat S****** ignored me for two weeks before brushing me off. Paid them $600 for nothing.

      Had a clogged drain and called them to come out. After working for several hours inside with no relief, they insisted we did not have an outside clean out and the only way to fix would be to dig up the front yard. Began quoting my mom $10,000K just to start....Telling her this was our only option to clear the clog. Decided to call for a second opinion and that guy was able to have the city out within 15 minutes to locate the outside clean out (which we did in fact have) for access. Had the clog gone in less than an hour. To top it off, he charged less than Roto-Rooter did and they (RR) left with nothing fixed, just a huge mess left in the bathroom. Shame on them, trying to take advantage of a widow. I wouldn't leave any stars as they disgust me, but it wouldn't let me leave a review with out it. A company that large should be a little more competent of options for their customers!

      We were desperate had a leak in downstairs from 2nd level primary bathroom toilet and tub... just put everything back together and it happened again. Called RR and they came out snaked the line and used a camera $700 later still never said what problem really was and never got back with us after calling them twice. Will NEVER use them again. Called new plumber turns out we just needed a new toliet. RR was the 3rd plumber called and was the worse in pricing and cleanup. They put toilet back on and rocks back and forth and left water everywhere! The plumber was nice but no follow up from him or corporate office.
