My wife and I are almost 80 years old. We had a sewer stop up last night. I called Roto Rooter and by the time they got here I had identifed the problem. It was outside in a 20ft piece of sewer line in the yard. The technician was here for about 30 minutes. He ran his snake in that line and that was the problem. He charged me $400. Then one of their front men showed to give me an estimate for the repair. He started at $2800, then offered $2400, and then $2000. I told him I would let him know. I then called a reputable plumber in **** *****, very nice people and received a bid of $1175 to make the repair. The front man with Roto Rooter named ***** claiming to be a plumber with very nice dress called and wanted the business. Called and called and then came by when I was gone for a little while. Called and was rude to me on the phone because I wasn't here to sign a contract which would liable me for the $2000. To me this is almost criminal and I could never refer anyone Roto Rooter. They're not even on BBB, but their score is 2 on a 5 scale. Don't call them ever.Roto-Rooter

1 starScheduled an appointment for this morning. Was given a quote of $1,800.00 for three hours of labor!!!! $600.00 an hour plus parts. I can have a new water heater put in for less money. When a customer calls, maybe you share you labor costs with them instead of wasting their $99.00 to come out. I will NEVER call this company again for service! How you stay in business with those prices is beyond belief.Review fromEDWARD L

1 starDo not recommend these guys to repair pipes. Tech came out Saturday, repaired a leaking on my water main going into the house. Sunday, started leaking again. Called tech, he says he is off until Weds, can he come out then. I said yes, but reminded him this is costing me money. He calls around the time he said he would be here, and says he got called by his dispatcher to do another job. He asks can he come out next day.
Of course I said no, so he set up a diff tech to come out. Weds afternoon, second tech comes out and says he has to redo the repair due to the leak. He did the repair. I waited until 8:30 pm, followed his directions to turn on the water main valve. This morning, I go out and it is leaking worse than before.
I called the call center, set up another appt for today. I called the local office and left two messages, one with customer service and one with the General Manager. No call back yet. I call the call center and ask to speak with a manager. I am being told the call center doesnt handle customer concerns. He tried to reach the local office, and comes back with, no answer. He tells me they are very hard to reach because they are so busy.
Oh and the cost of this small repair was 563.00. I know we are in California, but the hourly rate by roto rooter for repairs is 413.00 per hour. Ridiculous.Review fromJohn R

Roto Rooter is the one of the most expensive places to hire for plumbing repairs; I live in the South, and it cost me $988 in September of 2024 to get the internal parts of my toilet tank replaced and the external water line replaced; a total rip-off. That's outrageous price gouging. When I called the company the next day, an employee said he couldn't lower the installation cost because it was "book price;" I wish I hadn't agreed to pay that much and called a plumber instead. I hope they go out of business.Roto-Rooter

Horrible Experience!! This has been the worst experience I have ever had with any company. Our water heater light went out, so we called for help. They did send someone the next morning but when Andrew showed up he told me it could be the thermocouple and he would replace that. Had me sign a quote for over $700 to do this. Andrew left then came back about 45 minutes later and proceeded to fix it. When he wanted to collect payment he said they did not have the part after all because our water heater was out dated, but he cleanup up the area around the burner and now our light was on. Then he said he will take off $100 since he did not have the part. I happen to have a $50 off coupon he also used so my total was $647. He did not guarantee that it would work and just left. By the evening the light went out. So again my family had to shower in cold water. The next day we called a different pluming service that was recommended by friends and he came out the next morning expected and also thought it was the thermocouple which he changed and it said it light right up. Then proceeded to wait for payment until the afternoon to make sure the light stayed on and we had hot water which we did. This service only cost us $150. I still have Hot water. I can't believe this company would take that much money from someone without doing any work and no guarantee. I have been trying to call to speak with someone for my money back and we are going on Day 7 with no return call from Brain the Manager in our area. Save your money and asked for recommendations from family and friends like we should of did from the beginning. Hope this helps someone else!Roto-Rooter

I was happy with results when i had a pipe burst in my basement. They were prompt, friendly and were reasonable with their rates. The guys who worked on it where super nice and did a great job. Then I called to have a disposal put in my kitchen. I got a serviceman who was telling me how great he was at everything. I bought the disposal at ***** but was charged $294 to install with Roto Rooter. When I called and told them that was extremely high and that Lowes would have installed it for $130; they looked it up and the serviceman had charged me for a dishwasher installation. The next day he had to come back because he forgot to take plug out of the disposal as my dishwasher would not drain. They told me they would refund me the difference. Never received the check after a week, and called the manager. They told me that their ****************** just cut the checks and mine would go out the next day. Its been way over a week and no refund. They really have some good employees at Roto Rooter. They work hard and are friendly and on time. But not this time. Still waiting on refund!Roto-Rooter

Was promised by the initial agent that the work would be covered by my insurance, only to have them do work my insurance says was unnecessary for the job (leaking line to the kitchen sink causing damage to the floor). After initially coming in 5k+ over what my insurance would cover they removed some of the fees but still ended up 3k over. Avoid this company.Roto-Rooter

Called to have Roto Rooter come take care of a backed up toilet, at first they told me I was in their service area, then she changed her mind and told me I wasn't in their service area, very wishy washy, couldn't tell me anything about a service charge or an approximate cost. I have seen Roto Rooter trucks at 3 different neighbors house, which is why I called them, so I know I am in their service area. Lady on the phone didn't sound like she knew anything about their business. I finally hung up and called another company that was more professional.Roto-Rooter

I called Roto Rooter out on 9/9/2024 to clear a blockage in my line. I was informed by Jordan a camera person will come and inspect my lines. They never showed up. Two weeks later the same issue happened that was supposed to be resolved. Tech John was dispatched to my home. I informed John the only access to my main line is to pull up the toilet. Tech John told me that he doesn’t want to pull the toilet’s. John spent 45 minutes in my home just to pull the toilet. John was very unprofessional John made several comments on how he hates homes in Illinois. John left my home dirty, and wasted water in my home which destroyed my shoes. After John pulled one toilet he was asked will he be pulling my other toilet to snake the line. John refused and said it should be fixed now. Not even 18 hours later we still had the same issue. Call back in and spoke with supervisor Clayton which was very unpleasant and unprofessional as well. When explaining the situation and my displeasure with the second tech John. Clayton cut me off very rudely and ask “Do I know about plumbing.” Not one time did Clayton apologize for his tech unprofessional behavior. Speaking with Clayton I understood why his tech John was so comfortable with being unprofessional and disrespectful to my home. After being asked “ Do I know about plumbing.” I ended the call with the supervisor Clayton. I than received a call back from Clayton who then expressed another tech would come out and both toilets will be pulled and snaked. Al’Cee came out and snaked both toilets. Al’Cee was very professional he explained that the camera will be out on Monday. Al’Cee explained what may be the cause for my back up. He also cleaned his work area. If Al’Cee and Jordan would’ve been the only tech’s I would have given a 5 star rating. Unfortunately to have been disrespected by not only a tech that left my home unclean but also be disrespected by someone in leadership is mind blowing. I do not recommend this company!Roto-Rooter

1 starDo not hire these guys, even if they're the only plumber. You're better off doing a DIY job or hiring an individual expert. I hired them for a simple toilet gasket replacement because I just didn't want to do it myself (I regret this now). They categorized it as a toilet rebuild, which basicallymeans they'll change out the toilet parts in the tank, (flapper, fill valve, etc). I was charged 689$. Literally highwayrobbery. Pathetic price. It took the tech 15 minutes to complete the job, and probably 30 min to go out and shop for parts. By no stretch of the imagination could you justify this high price tag. They're just blatant crooks. However that wasn't my issue, it was distasteful, but I just decided to pay it, as long as my toiletwas going to be good to go. As soon as the tech finished the job of replacing my toilet parts and left, my toilet's fill valve started to consistently run every 10 min or so. The tank was now losing water slowly, which it was not doing before! This only happened after the plumber worked on it. I called them up to come back and take a look, as the job is under a 6 month warranty. They sent the same plumber to take a look, and he came in with a salty and pretentious attitude even asking me why I didn't call back the same day if it started then, which I let him know was due to my busy schedule. A very pretentious question and his way of basicallyaccusing me of lying. Just salty childish behaviour on his part. Anyway to make a long story short he tried changing the flapper (again), which didn't do anything, and left telling me that he cannot pinpoint why it's doing that, and that my best bet is to just replace the toilet. Some experts lol. I reached out to the manager to let them know that the plumber they sent to change a gasket, now caused me a new issue with the continuously running fill valve. My toilet was NOT doing that prior to him working on it. The manager dismissed my concern and also advised I replace the toilet, and basically
