I am so late filing this complaint because I am not in the best of health and I lost the paperwork. I hired Erie Construction Mid-West Inc. to replace my asphalt roof but found out later they did not replace the entire roof. I want the rest of my roof done because I paid $24,000 for a full roof. They also damaged my house.

In January of 2023, Erie was repairing my roof when the constant hammering dislodged the shower drain in the upstairs bathroom and my dining room ceiling collapsed. Picture attached. I immediately called ******* ******* project manager and he promised the company would take care of everything.

However I had to arrange, schedule, and pay for all repairs. I had to pay $927 to ******* ******** to secure the pipe. I waited 6 weeks for Erie to repair a 8 foot by 4-ft hole in my ceiling but finally I had to pay $500 to a handyman to have the ceiling repaired. I lost more than $5000 in property. My homeowners insurance does not cover water damage.

For about 5 weeks, I reached out to ***. I left several voicemails, texts and emails. No response. Then in mid February, I received a check for a little over $1000.
A few months later i started getting bills for the financing I pay monthly. The monthly payment is almost the same as the monthly interest, so I will never be able to pay this off.

*** ******* promised to send pictures of the finished work and never did. I had someone look and realized that they did not even give me a full roof. A good portion of the back of the house is not finished. Were my gutters replaced? I sent an e-mail addressing these latest issues but did not get an answer. It was my understanding that the entire roof would be done for the price I was charged of $24,000. Looking over the paperwork I realized that I did not have a complete description of work to be done. I secured a copy of the attached permit filed with the city and it did not specify measurements for the work.

I want this company to finish replacing my roof.

Erie Home apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused. Erie Home did pay the customer for the damage that was done back in 2023. Erie Home reached out to this customer to go over the contract as per the contract "not doing back addition or front porch". The customer stated that they only way she would be satisfied is if we did the other sections. Erie did offer to come to the customers home and give a quote on those sections and the customer declined.

This is my second complaint about this company. I paid for a full roof and only half of the roof was repaired. I want the other half of my roof done. I was contacted by the company after I filed the first complaint and told that I had signed papers agreeing to half a roof. But I do not have a copy of the papers they claimed I have signed. They were supposed to mail me a copy of the papers and they never did. I have heard nothing since. They are trying to rip me off because I am elderly and disabled.

Erie Home apologizes for the delay. Erie Home has now emailed a copy of the contract as well as the bank completion and erie completion. We have also attached it here and will be mailing a copy.

I am rejecting this response because: None of the paperwork states that I signed for only half a roof.  I am complaining because I only received half a roof for $25,000. I want the job finished.

Per the signed contract Erie Home was not to include the back addition of the home or the front porch. Erie Home has fulfilled this contract per the signed agreement. Attached is a diagram of the roof, the parts X`ed out were not included in the contract as they are the back addition and the front porch. Erie Home has offered to come out and go over the contract, but the customer declined.

On 8/18/23 Erie installed a new roof on my home. I chose Erie out of the other contractors who gave me quotes because of their warranty. I was a completely happy customer until I began to notice discoloration in the drywall on the ceiling in my bathroom and upstairs hallway in Feb. I looked in my attic space I was shocked to find all the wood that makes up the roof was soaking wet.

I immediately contacted Erie to file a warranty claim (on 2/5/24). The service manager, **** *******, reached out to me the next day and stated they were going to have the installer come out to inspect the issue on 2/8/24 at 1PM. I stated the time would work for me. I also inquired about what would/would not be covered at this point and they would not really tell me. The installer called on 2/7/24 and asked if they could come that day to look at the area, I told them yes. They inspected the attic and water damage and stated it was an issue with the ridge vent and they would be fixing the problem the next day (2/8/24).

On 2/8/24 the installer arrived with **** ******* and **** *****, the installation manager for Erie. They wanted to look at the damage and issues. I allowed them to do so. I was advised by **** at this point that the issue was with the insulation in the attic combined with a ventilation issue and it was causing sweating, which was ultimately causing the water damage I was seeing. They also told me it would not be covered under the warranty and no work would be completed even though through the course of installing the new roof they changed the ventilation pattern in the attic from box vents to ridge vents. So I am left to pay another company to come out to fix the ventilation issue Erie caused because they refuse to acknowledge their change to my roof and ventilation caused any issues. There was no sweating issue with the old ventilation set-up or roof, so how can they continue to claim their roof and installation did not cause the problem.

      Business Response

Erie Home apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused. Erie Home came out to the home on 2/15 and advised that the home needed more insulation. Erie Home offered to remove the ridge vent and install a couple of can vents. The customer reached out 2/19 and advised that they are going to have someone else come out and properly insulate the attic. If anything changes the customer can always reach out to our Customer Service team at 1-************.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that while I do not agree with recommendations or assessment made by erie home, I am accepting the response on BBB.

At no point did anyone from Erie get on the roof to look at the ridge vent or shingles that were installed. The representatives told me the mold growing in the attic due to the water would "just stop growing when the insulation is addressed".

I wont be using or recommending Erie Home in the future.

      Sincerely,

Over the past month, I have been trying to negotiate with Erie Roofs in San Antonio because I need a roof and they responded. I felt that their initial response was too aggressive, as they required signatures and a significant down payment before service. They also wanted to try replacing my roof during a time when significant rain was expected. I stayed in touch with the salesman. We cleared up all of my concerns, so I signed a new contract. At the time of signing, I again was asked for a down payment plus a second payment, which I thought was part of the whole negotiation. After reassurances from the salesman, I have since found out that he deposited the money to his personal account. The original down payment has been cashed by the company. I would like to now cancel the second contract with prejudice and get all of my money returned to me.

Hello, we had Erie Home come to our home to give us a free roof replacement estimate. We were told that the only way they could see if we qualified for 0% financing was to sign a contract for the services. neither my husband nor i felt comfortable with signing a contract and we both stated this. We were assured it was not a commitment, but it was REQUIRED for them in order to check our credit. They explained we could back out within three days, NO PROBLEM. We decided later that evening it was not a good idea because of our finances, so we chose to cancel. When my husband looked at the contract to see who best to call, it was very clear a call would not be sufficient! We needed to send a telegram that costed us $98.99 if it were to get there in time. We feel this was predatory practice, because they didn't explain this. They said it would be easy and no problem at all. We almost got stuck a $30,000 roof.

Erie Home apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused. Per the cancellation notice in the contract it states "To cancel this transaction, mail or deliver a signed and dated copy of this cancellation notice or any other written notice, or send a telegram to Erie Construction Mid-west, LLC., at **** ******* ******, ******* **** *****". Erie Home does not require customers to send Telegrams as we give several options to cancel.

Erie Home (Roofers) agreed to refund me $150 for gutter removal and replacement. They said it would be 10-15 days to receive check. That was on 1/5/2024. As of today, no check. On 1/25/24 a young gentleman came to our house soliciting **** to repair our roof. On 1/26/24 the same young gentleman came back to our house accompanied by another man about repairing our roof. They took our names, address, phone number, email address, social security numbers, and where we bank at. They quoted us a price of $18000.00, to be paid in monthly installments. They informed us that they would contact us within 24 hrs. about doing the job, and they never did. Called **** at their main phone number at least twice. At first they claimed they could not get to our records they have on us, then proceeded in telling us that they would have the two gentlemen call us right away, which never happened either. We feel frauded as they took all our information and never contacted us again. We want them investigated. Thank you.

Erie Home has conducted a full investigation. Erie Home found no evidence that the customer was incapable of making decisions. Erie first notes that the price, product, installation date, and all other facets of the sale for labor and materials were contained in a written, signed agreement. This agreement contains a three-day notice of cancellation provision that would allow the customer an opportunity to timely cancel for any reason if, for example, the customer obtained a quote he found more competitive. Under the customers contract, Erie repairs or replaces a failing product and provides new product materials at no charge to the customer consistent with its warranty terms for a 30-year period.  A portion of the warranty duration is also transferable to new owners, which provides further value and improvement to the property.

I am rejecting this response because I have power of attorney over my father and have since 2021 for a reason. I stated this to Erie Home during a conversation, the reply I received was, "he never mentioned this". My question, did  anyone ask him if he was permitted to make decisions? Or did he have a ***** of **************************** a $40,000 + roof seems completely ridiculous! I have asked and have yet to receive a breakdown of exactly what was done along with price for each line item.

I would appreciate an email with an itemized bill.

      Sincerely,

      Business Response

Erie Home trains all of our Sales Representatives to ask, is there anyone else that should be apart of this decision. Based on all interactions with the Sales Representatives and Install Manger, there was no indication that the customer was unable to make this decision nor was there ever mention of a POA. As for the cost of the roof Erie first notes that the price, product, installation date, and all other facets of the sale for labor and materials were contained in a written, signed agreement. This agreement contains a three-day notice of cancellation provision that would allow the customer an opportunity to timely cancel for any reason if, for example, the customer obtained a quote he found more competitive. Erie stands by its products and services, and respectfully doubts the customer could obtain the same materials (fiberglass shingles, synthetic underlayment, snow and ice guard, flashings, metal work, vents, trim parts and pieces, ridge vents, extra fasteners, etc.) in the same quality and grade, and with the same 30-year warranty, for a significantly reduced price.  Under the customers contract, Erie repairs or replaces a failing product and provides new product materials at no charge to the customer consistent with its warranty terms for a 30-year period.  A portion of the warranty duration is also transferrable to new owners, which provides further value and improvement to the property.

Erie Roofing left us without heat for 5 days. The lack of communication started right after we signed on the agreement to have the roof installed. High pressure sales men that were good at their job and spent 5 hours in our home to settle the deal. We were told it would be a two day job and it turned into a 5 day ordeal. We paid a lot of money for a metal roof and no where in our contract did it state they would have to install shingles around our central heat/air unit. They installed what looked like a runway on our roof of these shingles. We told them that this was not what we paid for they agreed to remove it and install the metal roofing completely on the area that the shingles were installed. Come the end of the week and the roof was supposedly completed. Roofing company showed up on Saturday and informed us that we needed to sign off on the roof and the loan documents but they would be back Monday to finish the roof. We were also promised a rebate check for all of our issues. We have been contacting Erie roofing since they did not show up on Monday with promises we would get called back from the local office and have not. I have sent multiple text messages and made multiple phone calls and no one can seem to call you back once they have their funding. The roof is not completed per contract and we do not have our rebate check. Would not recommend Erie period.
