A sales rep from Empire came to our house to estimate a new roof. While displaying the available roofing shingles, he set the display board on our brand new custom leather ottoman,(matching a new leather chair) scratching the leather. He apologized, and claimed that Empire had insurance and would take care of this problem. They did offer to take $10,000 off the roof estimate, which still placed their estimate $20,000 over the nearest competitor. After that offer, I have been ghosted by the company. No returned emails, or calls. This is a $4000. new chair set. Leather for the chair and ottoman custom matched. Now, no word from the company. Empire already has the documents for the chair set, as well as the sales reps own photographs.Business Response

February 7th to March 6th. 2024 , 33206.00. They were to be professional on all area of installing a sealed waterproof basement system in two days. My dispute is, it took them a month to do the job, they had to have a second crew come out to completely redo what the first crew was suppose to do.(Believed they used this against the warranty.) And even then the second crew cut corners on completing the job. My copies of the signed paper work does not match theirs as they have added to their copies something I did NOT say. They filed with their attorney to put a mechanic lean against my home if full payment wasn't made within 10 day on February 29th. The job was not even completed then. Spoke with their attorney and he agreed with me not to file as the job wasn't done. Their attorney advised me that he would speak with the corporate office and seek a discount on this job. Never heard back from anyone. I have to hire a concert guy to fix the horrible job they did on filling in what they broke up around the foundation of my home. So I am seeking a discount to cover what they failed to do and I don't ever want them back in my home again and I feel sorry for their other customers that may have to deal with what I have to deal with.Business Response

Erie agreed that it would not file any kind of lien on an incomplete job
given the customer’s concerns. Instead, the customer relayed her concerns to
the company who mobilized and coordinated to return to the site and remediate
all facets of the job – as it understands -- to the customer’s satisfaction.
Although Erie is sensitive to the customer’s claims that she was inconvenienced
by the crew’s return, the company stands by its fully remediated work. Insofar
as the customer is stating there is work that needs to be done in the future,
or that current issues still exist, Erie stands by its warranty and would be
happy to assess any warranty claims if the customer allows access to the
property. Ultimately, Erie did not find cause to renegotiate the contract price
or offer price abatements given the work was fully and properly completed.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: The job may have been completed but not properly. I have just recently noticed a sewer smell that has been coming from the basement and when I called over my Plumber he noticed that the two sewer drains that were in the basement are no longer and questioned me if they capped them off or put concrete in them to block the sewer from coming up and into the drainage for the sump pump. I explained to him that all I know is they took them out laid the pipes and covered in gravel and then concreted the top. He then stated that, that is the cause for the sewer smell, also the concrete that they laid in the front of the finished floor part is not level by any means. I can not set a shelf that will sit straight against nearly any part of my three walls that were dug up. I had on Tuesday the 26th a guy from Erie come take a look about the smell of sewer and the floor and said that he would get in touch with headquarters and let them know and that someone would be calling me about these issues, I have yet to hear back from them. So again here we are, nearly 2 month into what was suppose to be a 2 day job and I am not Stansfield with the so called "expert" job. I have signed the release for payment that has been made to Erie and I am still having issues with what should have been done right in the very beginning. I picked this company based on the size and how long they have been in business. Thinking that I would get a "professional" job done. When so far all I have had is, issue after issue with this company. I am still requesting a discount on this job of 20% that I believe is fair considering all that has been done incorrectly by this so called Professional company that has been in business for as long as it has.

On Jan 27, 2024 a new roof was installed. When they finished I counted 17 bundles of fiberglass shingles that were not used and carried away. I was told by the sales person that when he does not order enough supplies, the extra cost comes out of his pay. With consideration of the manner in which they treat their employees, I would think they would refund the cost of the unused supplies that I was charged for. I called the Install Manger, Mr. *** **** and was told that he adds a few shingles in case needed. I believe the salesman probably determined what was need. He told me that they use a satellite to measure the roof. Mr. **** informed me that the shingles ordered and included in what I paid was "3BDL/SQ" "56BDL/PALLET" as on the delivery sheets (4 pages) that I accepted on Jan 26, 2024. with a total of 88 individual bundles. If the 17 bundles that I paid for are then sold to another customer, seems to me to be a racket for the company or someone who is keeping the cost that they sell the 17 bundles to. It behooves the sales person to order more than enough to insure he does not have to pay for any shortage. I don't believe that is how a A+ company should conduct business.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:
I have received your message with regards to Erie Home.
I received a Voicemail from Erie Home a while ago. I returned the call and spoke with a representative. I thought his name was *****, but I am not sure as it was difficult to understand. We scheduled an appointment for March 13, 2024 at 1300. I waited until sometime after 1300 and then checked my phone. There was another Voicemail from what I believe was *****, but again I am not sure of the name. He said that he had told me he would call prior to coming, which I don’t recall. I may have gone upstairs when I missed his call. Every time I go up stairs, I don’t take my phone with me. The Voicemail was received at 1211 and he stated that I needed to call him by 1230 or he would not be able to make the appointment, because he had another appointment. He stated that he would call me to schedule.
I have been getting calls with quotes for homeowner insurance. Normally I don’t answer the phone unless I recognize who is calling. I have been answering all calls. After I have said “Hello” two times and sometimes three times and if there is no response I hang up.
There has been no attempt to “rectify” my dispute over the telephone.
Please ask whoever submitted the message for Erie Home to either make an offer to my email or provide a telephone number and I will call to schedule an appointment. I would ask that they provide what the salesman obtained for the roof square feet from the satellite and a copy of his submission for required material.
Thank you,
**** ** *****

I signed a contract on 10/2/2023 for $26,984.00 for work to be done to my basement. I paid an initial amount of $500 bringing my remaining balance to the $26,484.00 which was to be financed by their internal financing company, Synchrony Bank for 24 months with no interest after completion. In that proposal I was given descriptions of work to be done and verbally told by the sales team, **** ***** and **** **** that the work would take approximately 5 days.
On 11/28/23 an updated agreement for a price adjustment to $25,500 ($500 which was paid as a deposit) which was signed.
After 1 month of slow, unprofessional "progress" corporate offices were contacted and ******* from New York was sent to come look at the poorly executed work. He was also late. After seeing the work done he agreed it was not to standards and stated he would have it fixed. He then had a crew from South Bend, IN return on Jan 31 and redid the whole job in 10 hours. They had no completion paperwork for me to sign.
I contacted ******* telling him I had not signed completion paperwork nor been told a final price for the job. After the 2 months of delays and work being done incorrectly, ******* explained there would be a discount for the trouble and said the best way to do this was to cancel the previously approved loan and re-submit a loan application for the new price. After 2 weeks of multiple calls and not hearing from him I received a Fed-Ex package with a new loan application amount and completion paperwork to be signed. There was no letter explaining what I was signing and no explanation of the discount I was receiving. I simply asked him for an itemized receipt so I knew what I was paying for. A week goes by and nothing. I again reach out to *******, who doesn't answer then to **** who informs me my case has been forwarded to legal and that he is no longer allowed to correspond to me.Business Response

1/19 a man came to my home to give me an estimate on my roof, I told him the attic is hard to access. He said he could do it. As he climbed up he put a hole in the closet, where attic access is. He gave me an estimate that I could not afford. He offered to return when my mother would arrive to see if she could help, she said yes. She gave a $100 deposit & he said he'd give us $500 to fix the closet. We later discussed it more & realized that the price was not feasible. My mom is older w/ poor ********** could never afford the payments w/out her so what would I do then? On 1/21 I messaged him to let him know we didn't want to move ************** him a notice of cancelation. He responded kind of rudely "So I negotiated by boss down for nothing." Like he was trying to make me feel bad. I asked if the 100 deposit would be refunded & if he will still be paying for the hole in the closet. He said the 100 will be refunded & "yeah let me research how much it'll cost & I'll drop off cash." I thanked him but then he continued to message me asking why I changed my mind. I did not feel I needed to give an explanation. On 2/4 I reached out to him because my mom never got a *********** never heard from him regarding the hole in the closet. He said he would talk to his boss. I let him know that I was confused as per our last conversation the money would be refunded & he would do the research & drop off cash. He informed me he would drop off $25 because that's how much a little bottle of plaster cost. 1st, this is not a small hole at all! 2nd, he assumes my mother who is 65 & not in good health will climb up there to fix it, that cannot happen! He fell himself so what could happen to my elderly mother? No respect at all that he expects her to do this & thinks $25 is going to fix it! This company is very pushy & only cares about money! Stay away! If they could do the job at 1/4 of the price I would say no because of how I ended up being treated once I said no.Business Response

My entire experience with Erie Homes has been riddled with issues and unprofessional workmanship. I would like to start with a complement to ***** ***** & ******* ****** at the ************ offices. Through out this install they have tried to fix issues and problems to the best of their ability, but no matter what they did my experience has been lacking. To begin with, Erie Homes salesmen ensured me that my experience would be easy and professional. Some of my major issues involved Erie Homes not paying the sub contractor (Sunpath Solar LLC) they contacted and hired to remove and re-install my solar water heater panel. Lack of communication with scheduling and beginning the roof install before Christmas and it taking until February to complete after I hired them in October. The crew no-showing during the install. The crew using my rear gate and going behind my property for extending periods during the install without any explanation. I assumed they were using the property behind my home to "relieve" themselves through out the day. The crew also did not work with the solar company to facility and easy re-install after we talked about it extensively. The crew also roofed over my dryer vent almost leading to a fire within my home. When they came back to fix the issue, they did not properly re-install the panels they removed to access the area for the vent. They also used the wrong style vent. In another instance the crew did not properly install the drip edge associated with my extended patio. Causing water to drain down the electrical wiring of my patio light. This also almost caused an electrical fire. After they came back to fix this issue, they did not install it properly, instead they cut the flashing and caulked it to the drip edge. There are additional issues associated with this project and I have continually tried to come to an agreement before contacting BBB.Business Response

We signed a contract to have our crawlspace repaired and encapsulated in October 2023. The work was to be done over 2 days and completed by January 21, 2024. Since that time we have had 4 crews at different times come out, each time stating they were not told what work needed to be completed and that they were told our crawlspace was flooded or not having the supplies that were agreed upon in our contract. We were promised Erie specific drains, encapsulation fabric, stainless steel supports and a patented sump pump system with an enclosed basin. The 3rd crew that installed our drain pipe did not follow the perimeter of our crawlspace as indcated in our contract and ran a pipe diagonally across the middle, not even burying the pipe, just laying it on top of the ground. The 4th crew tried telling us that it was extra pipe for high water and then discovered after pulling back the fabric that the job was done incorrectly. The crew went to the local hardware and purchased the drain pipe and supports because they did not have the needed supplies and were told by their supervisor to go instead of returning to their warehouse for the patented products. Our sump pump is malfunctioning and they were to bring us a new one along with the lid to enclose the basin. We have contacted the installation manager on multiple occasions and never receive a response and no one has come out to finish the work. We have contacted the office and are told the install manager will reach out. We were asked to provide payment immediately, and did, despite our contract stating that payment is not made until the work is finished and we are 100% satisfied. We asked all 4 crews that have been out to avoid stepping in a specific area of our floor due to the joices being in poor condition and multiple workers ignored our request and continually walked on it causing a giant hole in our flooring. The last crew was at our house 2 weeks ago and no one has called to say when they will return.Business Response

Sales person used Hover to calculate roof size and was told it was 2,233 sq ft which I told him it seemed high. Was assured it was accurate. After job was completed and noticed that there was 9 bundles of shingles and 4 rolls of top shield left over. I used a tape measure on the roof and it was 2,025 sq ft. The difference is very close to the sq ft of our attached greenhouse, so suspect the greenhouse was include it their calculations. I contacted the installation manager and assured me they would review the Hover measurements and get back to me the next business day. Also invited them to come measure the roof again to prove me wrong. That was 2 weeks ago and no response! The contract included special financing for 18 months and was told the monthly payment would be $357/month. Received payment notice from bank and is $679/mo, almost double what was quoted. I called the 800 number for ErieHome and lady took info and said it would be sent to the local office. Of course, again no response. I emailed the sales person 3 days ago with all the information above and no response I calculate that I was overcharged at least 10.26% and expect a refund plus extra for all the time I have spent trying to get even one person from ErieHome to respond. I am satisfied with materials and installation crew, but very unhappy with being overcharged and lack of response by the company.Business Response
