Erie Metal Roof sent ******* Custom Homes LLC to install a metal roof. They did a good job from what I can see, however the day after the two-day roofing project we lost our hot water (we have only had this new boiler for one year) and called Total Climate Control who installed our boiler and had them come to fix whatever caused us to lose hot water. What TCC found was a pair of workman's safety glasses inside the boiler exhaust pipe. None of my family have been on that roof for over a year and never with safety glasses on so it couldn't have been any of my family. I have not had any other workmen on my roof for any reason in over a year, so it had to have happened when the roofing contract company were installing the roof. TCC said if the boiler had been at fault then it wouldn't have cost anything but since it was external (the glasses) they had to charge me $284. I emailed ******* ******* who had given me his card in case we needed anything while they were installing the roof and he didn't answer but an Irina Porter did. I told her the problem and she said she would send me a check. I waited a couple of weeks and emailed her again letting her know we never got it and then she said she could venmo the money to my husband (with a venmo account) and I gave her the venmo info. We never saw the $284. I emailed several more times with no answer and emailed Erie Metal Roof with no result. I sent a typed letter enclosing a copy of the TCC bill and my payment but it has been a couple of weeks now and all I get are crickets. I don't believe I should have to pay for damage done by the contract company.Customer Answer

April 4th 2022 a new fiberglass shingled roof was installed. I later got an installer to put up new gutter guards and he informed us of the soft spots on our roof. Erie has came and walked the roof and was told once before we would have soft spots on our roof. We live in a modular home with permanent foundation. Now we are told there is no soft spots. A code official came and done a visual only from the ground and said no soft spots just high and low spots. What! The Erie manager came here on the day the inspector from codes came and he walked the roof, not cool since I am having an issues with them. I have a lot of emails from the company that financed the loan for the roof. Which is $24,136.00. Husband was declined to get financed for the loan but I was approved. They ask him to sign the roof job was complete and were satisfied, not the person whom loan is financed for. I ask for a list of materials that was ordered and have not gotten and the company Beacon declined my request for that list. It states on their site home owners would be gone over the materials list when delivered to ensure ALL materials were delivered, that did not happen, nor did the installers when they arrived to install new roof. We ask for pictures to be taken during the old roof removal to see damage we knew was there from last bad install. We have not been given those either but told if it is not in the contract we do not do it. Salesman no matter what he told us would not be done cause it was not in contract. They are taking giving us 10 days from receiving their debt collection letters one signed for and one not, to make sure I got the letters. Now to me high and low spots are signs of damage and if they did not intend to fix that damaged areas then why order 1" decking and my husband seen them put decking in their work van. That is another reason why I wanted that list to see what I was being charged for that they took but we are still being charged for. I have more no room here.Business Response

My roof is leaking into my upstairs bedroom.
This has been occurring for quite some time.
I attempted to reach out to Erie, I spoke or chatted, I can't remember which, with someone there that said they would reach out to me to arrange someone to come out and fix the roof.
I never received a call, the problem has gotten so bad the gypsum board in my ceiling is falling apart.
I think I even see some black areas forming.
I'm concerned about what's going to happen this winter if it doesn't get fixed, will my entire roof cave in from the snow weight.
My wife is calling the contractor that installed it to see if they will be able to do anything, since Erie doesn't want to.
This needs fixed, I don't have the money to fix it, no should I, it's supposed to last longer that the amount of time I've had it.
I need them to repair my ceiling as well and any wood that has been damaged from the leak.Business Response

Erie Home apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused. Erie went out to the home on 8/24 and did not find any presence of a leak. Erie was denied entry to the attic so we could not conduct a water test to see if we could pin point the issue. We purchased a roof from them in Dec. 2021 for roughly $23,000. This roof was not properly installed and we have had multiple shingles lifting and have had shingles blow off. Also, drip edge is missing along with other minor issues. We have made several attempts to work with them to address this. The last contact was in April 2022 when *****, the installation supervisor and his crew leader came out. They made a list of things that needed fixed and stated they would be out following week. We have not seen or heard from them. We have called and text several times since and no response. It is a TON of money for us, for a service that was shotty and not fully completed.Business Response

Asked for an Itemized bill several times and all I get is a copy of the total cost. I feel they charged me for material they didn't use. Material was delivered but was taken when the contractors left.
The roofers refused to put an air vents on the garage saying they weren't necessary because I don't heat the garage which is not a true statement, the old garage roof system had 5 vents . On 2/26 when the Job was "finished" I felt pressured to sign the acceptance of work document, as the contractors were told not to leave until it was signed.
5 days later I noticed some issues took pictures and sent them to my sales team, It took them 2 1/2 weeks to have someone come out and fix the issues.Business Response

I called in October of 2021 to get an estimate to get my roof replaced. My roof was actively leaking so I needed to get something done sooner rather than later. My sales rep ******* at the house Nov 5th and we decided to sign a contract with them that day.
They were supposed to get started before Thanksgiving and even though we had nice weather nobody called, nobody showed for several days. My calls to the company went without answer.
Finally December 1st they actually showed up and started the work. That evening (5:00-5:15) when I arrived home from work, my driveway and yard were filled with shingles from my roof that had not been placed in the dumpster. I had to climb over the piles to get into my house. I got in and had to let my dogs out into the back yard and when I did I looked over to see one of the crew members urinating on my house. I was furious! It didn't matter what I said to any of them because none of them spoke English. Not to mention there were still guys on my roof and it was dark out.
It was the next day when I got a call back from *** the "Foreman" The guys cleaned up a little better that day and they tried to get my husband to sign off on the job. I told him not to. I wanted to see what it looked like in daylight. Well it looked awful and when *** came out to do a walk around with me He acknowledged that my condenser had been damaged, & there were several other things that were broken or damaged. They ripped the electrical box right off of my deck for example.
Weeks go buy and I refused to sign off on the job because nothing had been done about my damaged condenser. Now it's March and I still have not been paid for the damages that were caused by their crews. I had to have the roof redone in May because of how badly it had been put on. Now it is August, I still have not received any compensation for the damage to my condenser or other damages they did to my property
They do not answer my phone calls text or emails. They broke the contract day 1Business Response

Erie Home has completed all work that was agreed upon. Erie corrected the a/c damage that was done, reflashed the chimney, caps above the front door, mended the chimney bracket, repaired the gutter on the upper right and left side, replaced outdoor porch enclosure, mended the upper left and right side of dormer, and did a spring clean up. Erie also did attempt to clean up the attic but unfortunately was packed full of personal items.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:There is NOTHING in my attic except for the mess the roofing company made!
The crew that they sent to "clean" my attic were there for about 30 minutes, made a mess of my walls and took out some larger pieces of wood.
They then went to my neighbors and played basketball. I had friends over while they were there as well as my husband who witnessed this
The pictures show there were never any "personal items" in my attic

I filed a complaint about these people on 8/11/2022 They have NOT made a good faith effort, they have told me that they would be here on several occasions and have not shown up or called. They were supposed to be here on 9/7/2022 and I called to let him (*** the Foreman) know that I would not be able to be home. He said he would be out Tuesday or Wednesday the week after. He never showed, he never called. Then he said he would be here the week after, again, no call no show. I had to have someone else come out and clean the mess that they left in the attic AND I missed out on getting my insulation done at a reduced price because of them. The estimate had lapsed and the cost of materials had sky rocketed

March 2-6, 2022 Erie Metal came to my home for the 3rd time to attempt to put the roof on correctly. This roof is now warped & the shingles have buckled. I sent photos to *** *******, installation manager, via e-mail on July 25, 2022. I forwarded the same e-mail to L** ******, after getting no response from ***, on July 27, 2022. I got no response from him, either, so I texted *******, the receptionist to see if these 2 people were still with the company, & she replied that she would give the message to ***. The roof needs to be redone yet again as well as new gutters installed in the front from Erie Metal's damage to them & compensation for driveway damage. Re. Case #************, ID #******** 8/17/22 the roofers were to come between 10-11am to address the warped & buckling shingles on the roof. They didn't show, & *** ******* didn't call to inform me of a change in plans. The roofers came 4 hours late & looked at the roof but did not fix it. They said it was installed completely incorrectly & would have to be redone a fourth time. He promised to return Monday the 22nd at 7am. They neither showed up nor called. I texted *** who ignored my request for information regarding the apparent change in plans. Hours later the roofer called saying they wouldn't have materials until the following week & that he was going to come Monday the 29-Tuesday the 30th to replace the entire roof a fourth time including the front gutters which were ruined during the first 3 installation attempts. He said he'd be here between 9-10am Monday the 29th & would call 30 minutes out from my house. Again, they were a no-show, no call or text from him or *** *******. They did not respond to my texts regarding their missing the appointed time. And the compensation check for the driveway damage hasn't come. Their warranty guarantees satisfaction. I paid for the roof in full 17 months ago & have yet to receive the roof they promised me 19 months ago when I paid my deposit. Erie Metal has had my money, & in return I have a wet roof, interior water damage, a dug-up & damaged driveway & more aggravation, frustration & stress due to their incompetence & degradation of my house.

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:Redo #4 was supposed to be a complete removal & reinstallation including replacing the front gutters & downspout over a 2-day weekend. The crew that came told me they don't work Sundays & had no plans to redo the entire roof or any gutter work. They replaced part of the front & back roof.
The check compensating me for driveway damage was promised after the 3rd redo of the roof & has not arrived. *** ******* was reminded of his promise & laughed heartily in response to my asking where it was. He alleged that he was looking into hiring a company to replace the gutter & downspout. Then he offered compensation instead so that I could hire someone myself. He went on to tell me that he expects me to sign off on redo attempt #4 before issuing that check (for redo #3 damage) despite my informing him that redo #4 may or may not be sound, & I won't know until it's tested by weather. In fact, redo #3 was leaking & crew #4 found wet drywall from redo #3. He explained that it's corporate's position that the check for damages will not be issued until I sign off on this latest attempt to install the roof I ordered almost 2 years ago, despite their inability to install one correctly & adequately. Meanwhile my gutters & driveway remain damaged from a previous attempt at proper installation. He claimed he would send me the tracking number for the check "asap" today (which didn't happen) or Tuesday, but not until I sign his form saying I'm "completely satisfied."
It would probably make more sense, since the company has chosen to withold damage compensation, for them to come replace the gutters & repave the driveway or hire it done. By the time they get around to completing these 2 things in a satisfactory manner, I may have an idea whether or not redo #4 is adequate & will then consider signing their form.
Sincerely,
**** ********Business Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.It is true that I received the $1000.00 check to cover the gutter damage & driveway damage from Erie Metal's 3rd attempt to install the roof I paid for 18 months ago. *** ******* said the check is merely compensation, & does not imply that attempt #4 is determined to be satisfactory. He did ask, by text, if we had rain. Because attempt #3 (March 2, 2022) resulted in the roof leaking into my drywall & wasn't discovered & revealed until 6 months later when attempt #4 began, more time is needed to determine if this latest attempt has been installed with any competence & that the roof does, in fact, repell weather.
I appreciate the assistance that the BBB has provided to me which I believe has helped push the issue along. I would like to reserve the right to reopen this complaint in the event that another problem is discovered with the latest installation attempt.

On July 8,2022 I met with two reps from Erie Construction Mid-West to have them give me a quote on putting a new roof on my home as my roof was leaking. They gave me a quote and told me that someone would come to my home by the following week to look at the roof and tell me when they could start putting on the new roof. No one showed up and on July 18 I called the company and I was told a sales person would call me right back, no one called. Called again on the 19th, same story, no call back. Called again on the 20th and now the phone wasn't even being answered. I did sign a contract which stated that once they had finance approval, which they had the same day, they would be in contact with me within a week. They took $5,000 from my discover card. Also they stated if I backed out of contact they would charge me 15% of purchase price which is $31,189.. I feel that they have broken the contract by now showing up or returning any phone calls. I would like this contract voided and the $5,000 put back on my Discover card.Business Response
