2 stars30-day return policy on new phone only applies if you've never used the phone. This doesn't even make sense but this is how they operate.Review fromROGER D

I started using CC IN 2014. Month to month paying no contract. Phones are good and can buy them on time. I loved CC!!!! They were responsive, explained everything (since they go after the older population) their customer service was top notch. Once I got the plan I needed, rarely have I had anything to complain about. Except the App. (And until today.)It isn't user friendly. Very hard to find what you need. Very unresponsive. (Except to pay your bill) So they added a Chat feature. This morning I was disconnected twice, waiting in a queue 20+ deep. Explanations about new ESim were not there. The second person I chatted with did great, tells me to call a number, I do expecting her to guide me through the next part, but I was disconnected again. I chose to call the third time where I wasnt listened to, just argued at. The phone is working, in her opinion thats all I needed to know apparently. Up shot is if you dont need help and want to stick with a solid plan. This is a good way to go. Just keep in mind Their customer service *****. I suspect they are dinging their **************** reps if they are on any one call too long. All in all, they upgraded to an ESim, didnt let customers know, And it took over an hour, with two disconnects and an argument. Ill be looking elsewhere soon.Consumer Cellular

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. Consumer Cellular bills in arrears for monthly services and usage, much like a utility company. We are not a prepaid provider; service is month to month. An account will remain active until we receive a request to cancel service. When an account is closed, there is always a final bill for service through the cancellation date. Please contact our U.S. based customer service and we will be happy to assist you.Review fromBrian J

Consumer Cellular is charging $5.90 to customers that do not enroll in autopay. This is very misleading and unfair. I was told by management that other companies are doing it and that is just the the way it is. I do not like being charged to make my personl accounts subjected to any form of a possible security breech. They need to ******* this policy!Consumer Cellular

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. We understand the fee can be frustrating, however, Consumer Cellular is committed to being a green company. As such, we recently implemented some changes to match current industry standards, including a $5.00 fee for our customers who prefer a paper invoice and processing payments on their own. Eliminating paper invoices and payments is just one of the ways in which we are committed to helping the environment.Review fromKathryn W

Worst customer service ever!!! Over charged my elderly parents for data rates they never used. Tried to cancel service and transfer phone number to ******** and they gave us the run around. Took several attempts to get this done. They do not care about their customers!!!Consumer Cellular

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. Our plans are adjustable so customers can change to a plan that best fits their needs. We do require the information on the port out request to match the account information to ensure that a number is being ported out by the customer.Review fromAry I

**************** for ********************** has declined significantly and all across the board. First, I only found out of an urgent alert requiring action in order to avoid interruption in service by logging into their app to check my usage. It advised that I must update eSim. No where did it advise me that when I did the update that I would lose service and no where did they advise that you would need another device in order to scan Q code. Luckily I was somewhere with access to a landline to call customer service. When I called customer service no one knew what I was talking about and began the blame game, from blaming it on my phone to blaming it on apple to insinuating that I fabricated the entire thing as they had never heard of such a thing, Finally after much stress and anxiety they acknowledged that it was in fact a needed eSim update from them. Damage is done m. I was without service for 3 hours, affecting my work and other matters and I am now looking for another cellphone service provider.Consumer Cellular

I recently purchased two new (identical) ******** phones to replace two 4-year old phones on Consumer Cellular's (CC) network. One of the features I needed was WiFi calling on both phones, One phone snyced no problem the other was blocked for some reason. After trying everything I could think of, I finally called CC. The CC rep attempted to snyc the phone I was having trouble with and she could not get the WiFi enabled. When I mentioned these are the same phones sold by CC and they are identical to each other and the other one synced allowing me to make Wifi Calling, she indicated some phones just don't sync and that the only phones they gurantee are the phones purchased from CC. I told her that made no sense and was not acceptable. After getting no where fast I finally asked to talk to a supervisor. The supervisor (***) came on the phone and it was like night and day. *** indicated that just about all phones have wifi calling capabilty and he worked with me to get the feature enabled. He was not successful, but he immediately elevated the problem to IT. He was very matter-a-fact that this would be resolved and he would call me back once it was fixed. About 3 hours later the feature started working and soon after that *** called me back indicating WiFi calling was now enabled on the phone and if I had any other issues, just call back. The thing about *** was it wasn't just him fixing the problem, it was his great demeaner and attitude. It was refreshing and I appreciated it!Consumer Cellular

I'll start by noting the one-star review is for what Consumer Cellular has become rather than what it used to be. Up until very recently I'd have given it five stars and, in fact, I used to routinely recommend it to others. It was simply one of the best companies I've ever worked with as a consumer. This changed when suddenly I was unable to get a signal in and around my home last week. After a several days' worth of online chats with CC's customer service department, a trip to a local Target to get a replacement SIM card, and then no fewer than six separate phone calls I was finally given an answer as to why: CC had just switched from using ******** cell towers in my area to using ATT towers. This information should have been the first explanation given to me, but I suspect the customer service representatives themselves were not aware of it. (I'll note that everyone I spoke to was polite and as helpful as he or she could be given the circumstances, though several calls ended with an attempted "up-sell"--an annoying practice that CC used never to engage in from my experience.)Eventually a tech specialist told me that if I wanted cell service at home, my best bet would be to change to a provider that still uses ******** towers, which is what I have done. My experience was frustrating enough, but for, say, a senior citizen (one of CC's main markets) it could have been catastrophic should an emergency arise since I didn't have even telephone service for long stretches of time at home. I loved CC as a company but unfortunately it appears to be becoming exactly what it prided itself on not being: a profits-at-all-costs corporate behemoth that does not prioritize the customer.Consumer Cellular

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. We are moving all customers to the AT&T network and no longer using ******** towers. The new SIM card is part of this change and is necessary to make this change. We do apologize if this was not communicated to you, as well as any frustration this caused.Review fromDavid F
