Stay away from Consumer cellular.I and my wife switched to consumer because they had such good rates. This may be true, our phones were only 2 years old they were not compatible with consumer cellular. That should have been my first to stay away from them. We bought "their" new phones we found out they are not what they say. There was very few calls that went without dropping or being intermittent service. One of us could be talking and you only could hear maybe a third of the conversation. We contacted them and they said it must be our area. This happened no matter where we were. We could stand in a area that the phone had "4 bars", we could make a call and not complete a conversation because of the missing parts. We went back to our previous carrier. The phones from consumer cellular were not compatible with them. We had to go back to our previous carrier. This was the best thing. Our previous carrier being more expensive, we had no problems with dropped calls or intermittent reception. My recommendation is to stay away from Consumer Cellular, you need to buy their phone then it is not accepted by other carriers. I tried to get a refund on the phones, I was denied anything.I would not use or recommend Consumer Cellular. Why are other phones not compatible? Do not you only have to change the sim card? If I buy any phone from anybody why would it not work on their system?Consumer Cellular

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. We are sorry to hear of the frustration you encountered. Customers may be able to use their current phone, as long as the device is GSM compatible, unlocked for use with any network and is VoLTE capable. Please understand, we cannot guarantee the functionality of all devices or features of a non-Consumer Cellular device with our service until our SIM card is inserted and the service is active.Review fromCarole K.

I've been with Consumer Cellular for several years using a ******** Sim and never had an issue with connectivity. I debated for a long time whether I should buy a new phone through Consumer Cellular since I knew I'd be tied to them till it was paid off. Since service was always good, I got the new phone. Trouble began as soon as I transferred phones, going from an iPhone 8 with a physical sim to an iPhone 14pro with an e-sim (not knowing the new sim was ***** not ********). The phone wouldn't call in or out. After calling customer service on my husband's phone and going through steps I could call...temporarily. Since March, I intermittently get call failed messages when trying to call out. I have to turn my phone off and back on again to have it work. When I turn it on I get a message that says, "Your Sim is trying to send a text message", then it disappears. Also, intermittently I've had people say they've called me 10 times in a row and it goes straight to voicemail. My phone never *********** don't get a voicemail. I use this phone for work so I've missed numerous important phone calls due to this issue. Consumer Cellular told me it wasn't their problem; I had to go an Apple store. Did that and found there's nothing wrong with my phone. When I called back, they told me my husband's Sim needed to "upgraded". They sent a new physical Sim and once installed he's had nothing but trouble! After probably my 4th call to customer service I finally found out that they are going exclusively with **** and my new Sim is ****!!! This fact was never disclosed to me. If it was, I would not have stayed with them, let alone buy my phone from them on installments. At this point, I have to either pay off my phone or stay with them (UNWILLINGLY) until it's paid off. I feel as though they've been deceptive in not informing me of their now exclusive deal with ****! I'm being held prisoner to bad service by no fault of my own.Consumer Cellular

After four years with Consumer Cellular they decide to send me a new SIM card promising enhanced services. No where do they state I would have a different carrier. ATT does not work where I live. After speaking to three representatives and finally a supervisor who promised me someone would reach out to me within 24 to 48 hours. Six days later I was still waiting. My cell phone is our lifeline ( my wife a cancer patient and me a heart patient ). Consumer Cellular you left two senior citizens with no lifeline for one week. Your disregard for your customers is shameful. I am with a different carrier know so if you decide to make yourself look good by apologizing, its to late. Shame on you Consumer Cellular.Consumer Cellular

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. We are moving all customers to the AT&T network and no longer using ******** towers. To facilitate this change, it is necessary to have customers activate new SIM cards. We do apologize for the frustration and inconvenience this caused.Review fromVickie S

I have an unlimited data, talk and text plan. But if I go over 50 gb a month it slows down. The problem is they keep freezing my data on my device for high data use. I have had to call them once already. Now they have done it again. This is twice in a month they dod this. Unlimited means unlimited not limited. It is a sorry and misleading companyConsumer Cellular

I filed a complaint with the fcc and ******* bureau of agriculture because instead of throttling my service the carrier disabled it. I provided both agencies with copies of the disable orde in writing. I was sold a plan call unlimited dat. A supervisor told me that is wordsmithing and the plan is HARD- capped at 65gb. When trying to port my number oh, the carrier gave me conflicting steps over the course of four days of trying to leave the company. It appears to be. Last ditch effort to keep a few more dollars in their till. They also lied to the **** and denied I had requested to port out my number. There are some nice people that you deal with in customer service, but not when it comes time to leave.Consumer Cellular

We are sorry to hear you have encountered frustration when transferring your number to a new provider. Please keep in mind, we are committed to the protection of our customers and their private information. To transfer your number, all customer information summited by the new carrier must match the information on your account and include a transfer PIN. You can locate your account information on your online account and will need to contact our U.S. based customer service for the transfer PIN.
We understand this can be inconvenient, however, these steps are not only mandated but are in place to ensure our customers remain in possession of their numbers and that the number is being ported with their knowledge and permission. Our system will turn data off if large amounts are coming in all at once as it reads it as spam or potential fraud. We do apologize for any frustration.

1 starWorst Company to deal with, Mother's phone, she broken her hip, wrist and phone in one fall. While in hospital no way to get new phone until she is available to speak even when we get her to ok to speak, she can not remember passcode so no go!!. Suppose to working with seniors but that is not the case. Will be cancelling and telling everyone I can to never use this company. 1 star is to much.Review fromgwendolyn b

They say its $20, that's not true, they tack on anything they can to make it $50 or more.I think they take advantage of costumers that are not as tech savvy and they charge them more than what they are worth. I think my plan for a basic flip phone and basic coverage was $50 (after they added all the tiny fees) then when I had trouble with it (I often wouldn't receive calls or texts for days after they were sent to me), I contacted them. This is when I saw all the extra tiny fees and I was told that my service (after maybe 6 months) was not 'fully activated', I responded with something like I've been paying for full service and you've not been providing it? So I decided to explore other options.I chose a plan ******* that after credits would be $35. I got a transfer pin for my phone # and canceled ********************** plan. ******* sent me a new **** card and I put it in. It was only days later I had problems (not receiving calls but I could get text messages). It took me 2 weeks and maybe 8+ different agents, at one point a conference call with 5 different agents (from both companies) and I finally got someone who knew what happened the pin was still not transferring because the consumer cellular account was not active anymore and to get a new pin I needed to put the old simcard in and get the account temporarily reactivated long enough that I could get a text (with another transfer pin). 4 months later, they want an additional $64 for that. I contact them again, explained the situation. The agent said they will remove the late fees and I could pay around $42 for their 1 text with the transfer pin. That was dishonest because the bill they give me is for the full $64. These people are for profit and if you think they are not making money off people who don't know much about technology or how these services work, you are kidding yourself. My new ******* bill is $35 prepaid and it will drop to $25 after a few more months.Consumer Cellular

I can't belive that AARP endorses this company. Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with a cell phone company. I've called their text support 3 times and still no resolution to my issues. Don't waste your time with this inferior company. There are much better cell service companies out there.Consumer Cellular

It's impossible to get them to release your phone number to a new carrier I've spent 3 hours on 4 phone calls. The new carrier service didn't seem surprised when I told them who my old service was with. They give you lots of excuses and runaround.Consumer Cellular

Does not back the products they sell. My wife has a Z flip 4 purchased through consumer cellular. Twice now the phone has, separated from the connecting center joint adding this time the screen pulling away from the center and the phone will not open completely. The first time this happens CC sent us a replacement, however this time theyre pushing us off to the ******* manufacturer which will only allow us to mail the phone to them for possible repair. This process can take up to ten days to receive and review, leaving my disabled wife without a phone while I work. This is completely unacceptable and I will be filing a formal complaint as well as seek other cellular companies for service due to their complete lack of support on the products they themselves choose to sell.Consumer Cellular

We are sorry to hear about your experience and would like the opportunity to assist. Consumer Cellular facilitate the warranty process for most of our manufactures. The manufacture warranty is in place for one year after purchase of the original device. The device must be in like-new condition and free of damage to qualify for warranty.
This said, some manufactures choose to process specific devices or problems (such as an overheating phone). We look forward to assisting through this process.
