I only had Cigna for 2 months. They denied one of my meds that I have been taking for 30 years with only 2 refills a year. And they wouldn't pay for part of my breast exam, because they didn't like how the company billed it. If I could give them a minus rating I would.

The absolute worst insurance company on the planet. I called every week for 6 months to get a claim processed, was given every excuse possible. Still nothing. These people should be out of business.

EviCores standards are not based off current gold standard practices. In a recent denial they started they needed more information before approving care, when everything on the list given was already provided to them with the original pre auth request.

All insurance companies are bad, but Cigna is the worst. The Cigna sales reps told my employer that our coverage would be the same as Blue Shield under their plan, but they have denied treatments that Blue Shield covered for me. They lost the appeal my provider submitted and my doctor's office spent hours trying to contact them and get resolution. During one phone call I was transferred to six different representatives who gave different reasons for why my treatment was denied. They auto-deny claims for things that are covered and put the burden on you to appeal and find their mistakes.

EviCore is biased against MRIs and hinder the ability for Aetna recipients to receive the necessary care needed. Example, son has knee injury that can only show on MRI so a request is submitted but EviCore decides an X-ray will suffice. If that was true the Dr. would have requested that instead. Same thing happened to me when my Dr. requested an MRI on my foot. I had to get an X-ray that did not show the cause of injury and Dr. had to submit additional information to get approval for MRI, which didn’t happen. Fortunately for me I have veterans benefits that allow me to receive the care I need. EviCore can do a better job for Aetna so Aetna doesn’t have to lose more participants.

I am a treating Physician who takes care of patients that require frequent imaging for cancer.
I have dealt with many health plans who require Peer 2 Peer review for justification of ordered imaging. More often than not, it's easy and to the point.

Evicore w/ Cigna makes it deliberately difficult. Forcing Physicians like myself through an arduous process to take care of their patients. The phones drop the doctors, they make scheduling difficult etc - essentially forcing us to quit while we are ahead. The victims are the patients. They purposefully make it difficult to get approval for vital imaging for cancer patients.

Cigna Dental is bad, really bad. Will be dropping them like a hot potato. We’re retired and Cigna looks first for any reason to deny coverage.
Needed a crown to replace existing and the crown base needed some reconstruction. Covered the crown, not the buildup. Called a got a representative from another country that was impossible to understand that was robotically reading from a script.
My suggestion- run away from Cigna Dental as fast as you can and don’t look back.

Cigna processes claims quickly and answers their calls in what I would say exceeds the industry norm. That is not a stellar remark as the industry hold times are longer and longer these days.

The real problem is that most doctor ordered procedures/surgeries I've had get denied. They require multiple submissions and then peer to peer review. WHY????? If the surgeon needs something done, why deny it only to approve it later? Why hire and pay for some administrator in an office to stamp a denial which substantiates their job but denies the patient (premium paying customers) from expeditious care? Why allow so much time to pass for appropriate care due to denials?

I believe that we've lost sight within the medical professional. It has become a business first and appropriate care last!! Does Cigna recognize how long it takes to actually complete their requested "additional information" since we can generally never get a doctor on a phone? I don't think this industry is EARNING the income they command. What is a layperson like me to do? The answer is wait in pain until insurance finally approves it? It appears so and that is sad. Is 2 stars too generous or too lenient? I really don't know. I do know I'm tired of what appears to be a lack of concern from so many people in the medical profession.

Don't get surgery with Cigna. I had surgery for a torn tendon and Cigna is charging me twice for out-patient deductible. They say they are charging me twice for the same surgery because I had to undergo anesthesia and have the actual surgery. So apparently if you have more than one type of activity done, they will charge you for everything as an out-patient. Even though it's the same surgery and you don't leave the operating table, they charge you for being an out-patient for everything done. They're deceitful and liars and just want money from wherever they can get it.
