I pulled into a parking lot after driving 3 hours and tried repeatedly to pay for parking while looking for the attendant I saw when I pulled in to ask for help. The QR code wax incorrect and I was texting 8162 as shown on parking sign.
The QR code set up texting to +1 (866) 466-5129 which after no response from this number after 10 minutes, the attendant no where to be found, and having to use the bathroom after the long drive, I had to run into my friend’s apartment before I peed my pants.
I came back outside immediately and of course the attendant who was no where to be found had run to my car and put a ticket on my windshield WHILE I WAS GOOGLING HOW TO PAY PALMETTO PKG ONLINE because Palmetto Parking’s QR Code WAS INCORRECT and the attendant was no where to be found when I pulled in, I already paid for parking. I am trying to appeal the ticket according to the directions on back of ticket. AGAIN, THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE INCORRECT AND WHEN I TYPE IN cpmappeals.com it BRINGS ME TO A LINK IN THE UK, NOT THE USA, and of course can't find my ticket to appeal it. I have searched cpmappeals.com SC and USA to no avail. The ticket also states do not call to appeal and there is no help. This is absolutely a scam.
The attendant saw that I was looking for him, made sure I couldn't find him, and when I could no longer wait to use the bathroom, I had to run across the street to go to the bathroom. As I Paid for parking online (3/14/24-3/17/24) I came back to find a ticket on my windshield and the attendant was gone again. This is unacceptable. I am also filing a complaint with Charleston Parking Authority to make them aware of Palmetto Parking's practices.
I request a granted appeal of appeal of Ticket 01600340 (Plate WTX348).

While visiting overnight in Charleston,SC on 11/8/23, I found a $50.00 parking ticket on my car outside my hotel. The ticket had a header that said “Parking Violation- C.P.M.”. Though the parking place had no sign prohibiting parking, I assumed the ticket was from Charleston City so I mailed a check, in the envelope provided, for $50.00 on 11/18/23. The check cleared my account on 11/29/23 and I assumed all was taken care of until I received a notice today (3/4/24) saying the “parking citation” remained unpaid and that I must mail another $25.00 “within thirty days” to “Coastal Parking Management” “to avoid further action”.

When I contacted Charleston City I was surprised to learn CPM is a private company, not a part of any government office, and it’s reputation is well known.

I find many complaints online about CPM and their business practices, often referring to them as “scammers”; and, I find reports of investigative reports by Channel 5 news in which the City Counsel, Julia Copeland, has warned them against their practices.

CPM appears to be nothing more than a greedy SC company headquartered in Charleston with its primary purpose being to appear to be part of the local city/county government while strong arming the public using locks on wheels and the fear of “further action” to extort as many $$s as possible from the visitors and citizens of Charleston.

This company and its owners and business practices need to be exposed for who they are and what they do. I am surprised that are not on the BBBs radar.

On Sunday 12/31/23, I attended a Farmers Market located on James Island, SC. I parked in a parking space without any sign stating that payment was necessary for this lot or parking space. Also, throughout the City of Chatleston (James Island is a part of Charleston County) parking is free on Sundays. After returning to my car I noticed a yellow ticket taped to my drivers side window. This ticket is from a private company stating that I have a parking ticket for $50 for unpaid parking. I took a picture of my surroundings and there were no parking signs anywhere. In an attempt to dispute this ticket I reached out to the company to explain the situation and included a photo of the parking space where there are no signs. I received a response from the company stating that there are signs posted on other places around the lot and should have known better. There are NO clear visible signs anywhere that I saw. I even mentioned that there is a lot further down the road where every parking space has a sign in front of it so I made the assumption that since there was no sign in front of the space that I parked or any of the spaces next to me that payment was not required. In researching the company they have been reported numerous times for irresponsibly and recklessly ticketing cars that are parked legally. I would like to file a formal complaint on this company because it seems like they are taking advantage of people throughout the city. I’m also requesting help in dealing with this company about my dispute. The company hasn’t provided any evidence in the form of photos when I requested where the signs they speak of are posted. Thanks in advance for your help!!

On August 2, 2023, I parked my car on public property, Smith St., to pick up a food order approx. 30 ft from my car. I parked adjacent to a private parking lot. I did not block the parking lot entrance. After exiting my car, I heard a man yell from the parking lot that I could not park there. He did not identify himself and was in an unmarked car. I told him I was picking up an order. After approximately 15 seconds, I turned around and saw the man adding a tire boot to my car. I immediately asked him what he was doing. He ignored me and finished placing the boot on my car. He did not identify himself and was not wearing any uniform/vest/badge. I had no idea who he was or if he was with a legitimate company or why a boot was added to my car. I repeatedly asked him how to get the boot off of my car and he ignored me. I was therefore stuck there without access to my car, and the man refused to talk to me or tell me how to get the boot off. I finally was able to find a number to call after I walked into the parking lot located on that street and found a sign. His phone rang. Only then did he provide me with the information to pay to get the boot removed. The “parking violation” he gave me states the violation was “prop manager boot request no comment.” The man continuously ignored me, did not identify himself, and acted in a predatory manner. Further, he wrongfully added a boot to my car that was parked on public property, a street, and was not parked in the private parking lot. I had to pay $53.95 to remove the boot. After this interaction, I was able to find this company and read their Yelp reviews, which are filled with the same experience I had of this business acting in a predatory manner, not identifying themselves, and wrongfully adding boots to cars and forcing people to pay them.

Paid for parking at 375 meeting Charleston, sc till 7am. I arrived at 630am to remove my vehicle to find it booted. When I called to have boot removed the guy refused to remove unless I paid him. I had to involve Charleston police department and file an incident. Paid 50$ and unable to reach their offices. I have photo, recipe and police reports proving that CPM was at fault.

On 3/31/1973, while parked in an unmarked parking lot in Charleston, SC, my car was booted by this company and I was required to pay $50 before it would be removed. There was NO SIGNS requesting payment for parking or I would have paid it! There were no signs at the entry of the lot and none inside the lot with warning that no parking was allowed or prepayment was requested. I explained to CPM we so zero signage, he understood and even wrote on the invoice that the signage was “not visible”. I made numerous attempts to call this company, left messages, but no response at all. This company is awful, complete scam, and only interested in illegally making money.

The booting company booted our vehicle at a grocery store. He refused to tell us the time limit of parking in the parking lot. He refused to tell us how long he knew our car was at the parking lot. He admitted we were in the grocery store. His ticket didn’t even state why our car was booted.

Monday 4/3 at 6:25pm I was given a boot on my left rear wheel by Coastal Parking Management and forced to pay $50.00 to remove this boot. I ordered take out from Le Farfalle(a business clearly marked on the sign where it is okay to park if utilizing this business). Took a walk across the street after checking on my order that wasn’t ready yet. Returned to restaurant and picked up my to-go order and walked back to my car to find the boot. Called the number and the man was rude and demanding of $50.00 and didn’t want to hear anything I had to say. I followed the guidelines of this parking spot and don’t understand why this company is scamming people of $50.00 when they are in the wrong.

Company placed a boot on our vehicle after less than 3 minutes and their pay to park app would not load to allow us to pay. Made us pay to have boot removed. Police were called and advised civil lawsuit.

I parked in a lot in front of Jessamine + Vine at 164 Market Street in downtown Charleston. I arrived at around 2:50pm, went into the store, looked around, came out and messaged a couple of friends while outside on the street, then walked over to my car. There was a ticket and a boot with a timestamp of 2:54pm. I then noticed the guy who booted the car was in a truck right next to my car. He came out, was rude, intimidating and wouldn't listen to what I had to say. I parked in the lot, where there are signs that state the business I went to is a business you're allowed to enter to park in this lot. I then paid the $50 fine to have the car unbooted (he wouldn't unboot it unless I paid.) This was at 3:02pm I then called the number on the ticket, XXX XXX XXXX and then another number I was directed to XXX XXX XXXX and spoke with Barry. He told me there's nothing he could do and that if his guy booted me then I have to pay.

This is just simply stealing. Booting and charging me when I'm literally following the rules. I was in a store on the list in the lot for about 6-7 minutes, then out on the street connected to the parking lot at the lots entrance for 3 minutes on my phone. The guy was just waiting in his car to boot whoever parked in the lot.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/09/2022

    Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/10/25) */
    Good afternoon,
We only boot at that specific location if the owner of Jessamine + Vine calls us and asks us to do so. The owner calls us to boot when the parker leaves their car parked in the owners parking space and walks away off the property. We were simply following directions from the property owner.

    Consumer Response /* (3000, 10, 2022/10/26) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The owner's response is a lie. No one from Jessamine + Vine called them to boot cars. The guy booting cars was parked in a truck next to my car. He told me he saw me walk to the street so he booted me.

As well as stealing money from citizens, they are now lying. They did not follow any directions of a business owner, as the guy who booted me said in person.

I would like at a minimum a refund for this theft and a resolution that stops Coastal Parking Management from stealing from citizens and then lying publicly.
