1 starIf I could give a big fat 0 rating I would. Our local store is filthy even after recent remodel. Stock carts everywhere, fire code violations, not handicap accessible because carts, garbage and product all over the floors. Food products lying on floors, store shelving equipment/product hooks laying on floors and in random boxes on shelves. This is the worst store in 60 mile radius. Went to another DG an hour away.... For some reason. Checkout person had to open door for customer before me to leave, they stood and visited for several minutes while I waited to be checked out. When she returned I commented she shouldn't visit with friends or family with customers waiting. SHE TOLD ME TO LEAVE. She said she has had enough of customer complaints and she did not need my business. My cart was full of groceries and home decor...added up on my phone over $190 she refused to wait on me. I will never shop at Dollar General again.Review fromMark D

This is hands down the worst store I have been in ever . You can not move through the store with out knocking things off the shelf . No safe exits available if you had to get out due to emergency . Today went I went in the store the detex alarm was going off I was in the store for 30 minutes and it was on the entire time . Poor customer service and prices tags are completely wrong. The door to the stockroom was left open and trash was piled up down the hall leading out to the the emergency exit . It's dirty and extremely unorganized and not safe .Dollar General

I read a piece online about stores scanning the wrong price as marked on the self, informing the public "heads up, watch out". I took notice of the article. Then when I went into a Dollar General store the other day and got into an argument with the manager about the price discrepancy, "we have to go by what it scans at the register, either buy it or not' was her answer. Matter of fact there were several items I got and all scanned different prices. I didn't buy them. That day I went around to what I call the "so called" dollar stores and found the same thing and same interaction with the store managers. I even went to 2 ********* in my area on a quest and yes there was a problem there also. Surprise to me that the store manager took the same posture as the dollar stores. Frustrated contacted Miss Jakie C*******, her great answer was don't shop there contact the BBB. I emailed her back and said, "some great help you were". I don't know what you can do with this information I'm sending you, but buyer beware, stores will not honor self-prices or miss marked items. There is no recourse.Dollar General

1 starSo, this weekend I received Dollar General's Spendwell debit card in the mail. Since I never signed up for a Spendwell debit card, been in a Dollar General or even know where one is, I was extremely concerned that my personal had been compromised. I called the activation number on the information I was sent (no customer service number), and the person I spoke to wanted MORE of my personal information including the last four numbers of my social security number! I refused to give them any of my information, and after a while then they said they have canceled the card (to get me off the phone I'm sure). I asked for a verification email, which of course, I never received. I then spent the better part of the day calling around trying to find out what was going on and put a flag on my credit with the "big three" and so on. While searching the internet, I see that numerous other people had the same thing happen to them! Reading even more complaints on ****** and here at BBB on ******** (Spendwell is a demand deposit account established by ********), I realized that this must be some sort of ridiculous marketing tactic! Cast a wide net and see if they catch anything sort of thing?! This is unacceptable and a HUGE waste of my time trying to protect myself. I suggest you sort yourself out and rethink your strategy. Perhaps a temporary card like the ones you have in the store?Review fromJay W

1 starToday, I decided to visit my local Dollar General to treat my co-workers with snacks for all their hard work. I was in line waiting to be assist and noticed the Dollar General employee ignored another cust asking for help with check out. When Shirley finally answered the customer, it was very rude and disrespectful tone. I will never visit Dollar General again at 832 E Chatham St, Cary, NC 27511. In addition, the assistance manager watched and said nothing. I was very disappointed. Could someone please investigate this because I truly believe it was racism behind their negative tone.Review frommargaret t.

1 starthis is a small town with people living on fixed incomes. I rely upon this dollar general for specific food and items not carried by the local grocery store. Last week, I purchased a 2.6 oz bag of starkist chicken for $1.45. This week, the same bag of starkist chicken was $1.75. SAY WHAT? This is just one example of the price gouging going on at this dollar general store. A bag of dry cat food (purina selcts) used to be affordable at $7.25 a bag. Today, the same bag of dry cat food costs $8.25 at the dollar general store. Look in the frozen food section and see what dollar general is charging for small portions of stouffers entrees. I can't afford good nutrition...and I am not alone. There is "donating for a good cause" and there is a creation of that "good cause" by creating prices that put people in the food line in the first place.Review fromSylvana M

I live in Buffalo NY and my husband and I shop at the Dollar General on Roessler St, The store is disgusting. Floors are filthy, stock is on u-boats every time we go in there and there's nothing on the shelves. Depending on who is working sometimes we get friendly service and other times we do not. I worked as a manager in retail for 24 years and I have never had a store that looks this bad. How do the people that work there take pride in their job when the store looks like that. If it's short staff then they need to hire. If it's personnel not doing their jobs then fire them but customers shouldn't have to go into their neighborhood store and it looks like trash. Upper management wake up and check on this store. Find someone capable of running it and making it a nice place to shop.Dollar General

Very dissatisfied with a company that prides themselves on customer service allowing a Store Manager such as the one in Starbuck, MN. I have personally seen and been verbally upbraided by this individual on several occasions. As have multiple other people, including employees! I find this to be extremely detrimental to the dollar general corporations overall statement of customer service. I myself and several others have lodged personal complaints against this individual with dollar general corporations human resources department. To no avail. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed. I will drive out of my way even with gas prices being high to not be a patron of your establishment ever again.Dollar General

At Dollar General, we place a premium on customer service, and we also want to ensure our associates are aware of the resources available to them any time they have a question, comment, concern, or complaint regarding their employment. As we have also heard from our customer via email, we have responded to him directly.
Thank you for bringing this complaint to our attention.

I visited Dollar General in Dora, AL (#07036) and purchased several items. After the items were totaled and paid for, I was asked if I wanted my receipt. After reviewing my receipt, I noticed that several items purchased were higher than advertised, and there was an item that was scanned twice! After bringing attention to the cashier, he left to get another associate to assist. The associate, in a very disrespectful tone, proceeded to tell me that it happened all the time. The reason provided was that the store was short staffed and that there was no way they could fulfill the demands of management and monitor pricing. . She wanted to know what items were incorrect. , I told her there were too many items for me to verify. I also informed her that it wasn't my job to conduct a price audit on the items. To resolve the issue, I requested a total refund. She ended up giving me a refund in cash. I asked if she could refund the money back to my debit card in which she replied, "it will take 2-3 days to refund. It's the same thing, so what's the problem." She then proceeded to tell me to get out the store. Needless to say, I was HIGHLY upset and disturbed - which led to me delivering some unpleasant but warranted words to her outside the store. For clarity, she followed me out the store while attempting to call the store manager. After the altercation, I started to review the receipt in more detail. Not only was the pricing incorrect on several items, I had been charged double for one of the items (I only purchased one). Moral of the story: Please check your receipts and verify the prices at Dollar General. According to the reviews, this is happening at various locations. To management: I would suggest continuous customer service training of your employees and adequate staffing. This situation could have escalated and ended badly. The most obvious solution is consistency with your pricing. Your advertised price should always match the price at checkout.Dollar General

In response to the Business comment: I received an email asking for my phone number stating that someone from the regional office would be contacting me. At this point, I have not spoken to anyone from that office. Prior to me filing the complaint with BBB, I contacted the corporate office via phone and expressed the same concern. The representative I spoke with, Riza, stated the District Manager, Steve D****, would be returning my call within 24 hours. To date, I haven't heard from Steve. The store manager did contact me to discuss the situation and stated Steve was tied up in meetings all day and that he would be following up. Maybe the store manager's call was the fix all.
