We started working with Clayton Homes, Paradise, Pa in April 2023 timeframe. We submitted the electronic application and within 3 weeks received approval from 3 lenders. We had visited 2 other Clayton facilities but due to the location of our property we HAD to utilize the facility in Paradise, PA.
Our project was a construction loan, where you tear down an existing residence and install the new home. The representative Pete **** dragged his heels on getting the process started with surveys; obtaining vendors to do the demolition, sewer/water and county permits. We GAVE him vendors to use that were qualified and more reasonable than those he suggested. We chose to go with a lender and he said we did not need that amount of money -- our decision to make not his. Because we did not go with the lender he suggested -- he was unhappy hum were you going to get a kickback. His supervisor Ed ******* delayed visiting the property for what was advised as an 'engineer' review. Only to find out later that we had to have another 'engineer' review the property -- which was delayed and caused us to have to go through another credit review. A 3rd person was brought in Brody ******* who was the only beacon of light to the project, but he still had to answer to Pete/Ed.
The construction vendors were never contacted; permit discussions were never held with Harford County -- claiming it could quickly be obtained AFTER the engineer filed his report -- which now we were told it would take 3-5 additional weeks because he was so backed up.
All our paperwork was completed with the lender -- we are now into July. Out of frustration I asked for an email address to corporate so that I could submit our complaints to see what recourse could be made. The next correspondence we received was that they were going to refund the deposit and terminate our relationship due to our displeasure with them and due to difficulty of the project. I now have to find a new builder -- 6-9 mo delayClayton Homes, Inc.

We are searching for a mobile home and came across Clayton Homes in Clanton. We looked into buying from them a few years ago, but received harassing phone calls and texts after giving them our information. We decided to come by again to see if we could see the homes in person this time. Sherle was the one showing us around and not only were we showed homes that actively had damage or things that needed badly to be fixed to them (broken walls, poorly built paneling, etc) but gave us price points that were $15-20,000 less than what the actual price was. Not the price after all of the hidden fees and extra costs they will inevitably place upon you, but the sale price. For example, she gave us a price point of around $70,000, but the actual sale price of the house was in the $90,000s. This happened for all of the homes we were shown. All in all, there was a very shady air to the experience and we felt that we as young people were being taken advantage of for assumed naïveté. We felt pressured into making a decision, but ultimately decided to leave. By that point, likely because no sale was going to be made, we were quickly and coldly ushered out as if we were no use anymore.
Clayton used to be a shining example for all other mobile home companies, but it seems like they are now more concerned about making money rather than making customers happy. We will never be going with a Clayton home after seeing firsthand what they really are.Clayton Homes, Inc.

Ms. *******
We sincerely apologize for your bad experience. We have spoken with the General Manager at Clayton Homes in Clanton who has held this position for over 12 years and we work very hard to maintain an excellent reputation in the community. We are currently having an Inventory Reduction Sale and it is very possible that you viewed homes with discounts of up to $20,000 off the price of a home. A Display Home could be a 2022-year model, but the current price could reflect a 2023-year model, which would then have to be ordered for the customer. We assure you, we do not have any hidden costs or fees. On occasion our homes do come in with transportation issues that are beyond our control. We do try to correct these issues in a timely manner, but often times we have to wait on parts and materials. Again, we am very sorry for any inconvenience. Please, feel free to contact the General Manager at 205-755-4023. Thank You.Review fromGeorge T

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!
I bought a Traditional double wide manufacture home from Clayton Homes. My wife and I have live in our new home for over a year now. I must say this is the worst put together home I have ever seen. If you are looking for a new home DO NOT buy a Clayton Home. Since we have moved in we have noticed that none of the doors are square and do not close properly. Have already had to replace the back door due to it was installed incorrectly. The kitchen cabinet look and are made of a high grade cardboard box with cheap thin pine strips that split. The dishwasher has parts falling off of it. The pluming looks like something the three stooges installed. Ceiling lights installed incorrectly and this is just the inside. So if you want to know if I would buy another one, I thing you already have your answer

Hi George, thank you for sharing this feedback with us. We're sorry to hear that you are not completely satisfied with your home purchase. Clayton Homes provides a one-year structural warranty, and allows items such as these to be addressed during that time, along with a 30 day cosmetic warranty. The items mentioned would need to be addressed during the one-year period.Review fromRick M

Clayton Homes strives to provide world-class customer care with quality-built products, and we're sorry to hear you are not completely satisfied with your home purchase. While shopping within the Florence area I drove by Clayton Homes and decided to stop in to browse mobile homes. I was greeted by a very pleasant gentleman by the name of Andy Barnes. He took me on a tour of several gorgeous homes and told me quite a bit about the company. He was extremely knowledgeable, courteous and we even shared a few laughs. After spending a little time with Mr. Barnes and viewing mobile homes, not only would i surprise myself and become a customer but our interaction let me know that i had met my first Friend since recently relocating to South Carolina as a retiree.
I highly recommend Clayton Homes to every customer who is in the market and even moreso i personally recommend that you ask for Andy Barnes and you will find yourself pleasantly engrossed in professionalism, courtesy, informative and pleasant dialogue hosted by one of South Carolina's finest sales representative who will provide you with Top Quality service.
I became a Clayton Homes customer on that day not only because of the Outstanding Quality of the mobile homes but due to the tremendous customer service that was presented to me by Mr. Andy Barnes.. Today, I am recognizing and appreciating the high level of customer satisfaction that i was greeted with and continue to receive as i venture through this homebuying process. I am extremely Proud to be a Clayton Homes customer. I am also grateful to my sales representative for demonstrating the very finest customer service skills as well as professionalism and i look forward to closing on my home in the near future.Clayton Homes, Inc.

This process was a little overwhelming at times. If not for Gary ****** and his enormous knowledge, this process became so much better. Whenever there was a question he answered promptly and if he didn't know he would quickly find the answer. I would definitely recommend asking for Gary or referring people due to his ability to make the process go smoothly. Thank you Gary ****** for everything you have done for Rob and I. Bought my 2020 home which was made2019. The quality is hard to beiieve. Much like their concerns of problems that arise. It goes all the way through corporate. Run from this place . Things you should check are seals around windows and doors. You may have lots of rot shortly after purchase, but with only a 1 yr warranty they wont cover Due to these not having seals where contractors say there should be as the norm. Shower doors have a gap of a half inch from top to bottom also. New stove interlocks closed , they had to change out toilet because it was broken before home was set up. bottom refrigerator cover will not stay on. floors pop where they arent level.front door is hard to open and close due to not being squared up and floors not being level.( partial repairs were made but never returned during warranty period) Never. Ever would i have purchased if i knew the quality would be so 3rd world. . The generic response i keep seeing in the responses and everyones issues are still pretty much the same and still going on very telling.Clayton Homes, Inc.

Hi Mr. H***, thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience with us. We strive to do right by our customers and create a great experience. We seal doors with silicone back when home is set up. Upon hearing from you, our retail team offered to replace the door out of courtesy at our cost for contractors, and advised since the home is 2 years out of warranty, and issues would need to be addressed with the insurance company.Ronnie H

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. First of all, we haven't even got to move into our home that we purchased. Because all we do is get the run around from them when it comes to hooking up the utilities. They lie and they don't even know what the heck is going on with the utilies, that we signed a contract and made extra for them to take care of. They delay everything. The first week they came out to work on the house they only worked a total of 3 hrs max and then never come back after lunch. We are going on a month now being homeless and they do not care one bit at the Lowell. AR location. This is such a big disappointment as it was mine and my fiance first time buying a home together. At this point I would not be surprised if it was another month before we get to move in.Clayton Homes, Inc.

Hi Emilie, thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. We strive to provide excellent customer care and are working diligently to get you into the home. We have communicated with the electrician, and he has spoken with the power company, and they are telling him you will have power by the end of the week. As far as the water, you do have to set up your account. We cannot set up the account in your name for you. After that the plumber should be able to pull the permit but the water company kept telling us they needed a 911 letter. You had provided it to the water dept. but when the plumber tried to pull his permit, they told him they did not have a 911 letter. The water company finally acknowledging they have the 911 letter they need and is telling the plumber he can pull his permit.Review fromAndrea D.
