Hi. We bought a three bedroom home from Clayton’s in Harriman, Tn in 2013. The salesman, Ben ******** was so great to work with us. He even showed up at the site the day the home was delivered and set up. Their guys did an excellent job of installing and securing the trailer to the concrete pad, that we’ve never had any issues, even though we get some hefty winds on the hill where we live. Now we are considering having the trailer moved to a lake lot. Ben still works for Clayton’s and he has been very helpful in connecting us with the right people to help us in this new endeavor??Clayton Homes, Inc.

I'm new to Virginia and saw the sign advertisement on the side of the road. I like how the model homes looked so I decided to stop in. When I stopped in, I immediately asked do I need to schedule an appointment to tour the homes and learn more. I had to continuously ask for more information, a brochure or pamphlet, something. The lady that came out to greet me gave me the impression that she didn't want me there and even proceeded to tell me I would need $350k to purchase just 1 bedroom more model than the one advertised for $50k. Stating that the home did not come with land. Well of course it doesn't. How do you know if I have land or not? How do you know if I have 350k or not? How do you know what I do for a living? What kind of land does she believe someone would purchase for over 300k of the build price of their home? If this company doesn't solve their biases, based on my experience and the other reviews they're going to have a major lawsuit on their hands. POC like me that are interested in purchasing investment properties and homes should not have to feel like we're forcing our hard earned money into these businesses pockets. It's sad because I just sold my $350k home and land I had built from the ground up in Maryland and was planning to purchase several of these properties cash offer. With all that being said I left out the door with a packet, a horrible experience and still was not one time ever offered an appointment or tour. I'll spend my money else where. I will be contacting the BBB and the News Station in regards to my experience and the experience of multiple other reviewers.Clayton Homes, Inc.

Our mfg home came from Rutledge tn. It was built in 2020. We now have to get a new roof. Everytime the wind blew or there was a bad storm, it would blow shingles off. Clayton Homes sent out the customer care tech. He told my husband that they did not tar down from the apex to the third row down and that was what my husband needed to do. He said he had to do that on his home from clayton and it was common because the roofers who install the homes dont do it. BUYER BEWARE! Seriously! This is ridiculous! I know there was a law suit over the quality of the shingles they used, but this purely the kind of employees Clayton hires who are not doing their jobs right and the consumer is left to dish out more money to repair!Clayton Homes, Inc.

I contacted this customer advocacy. Its all just a waste of time. They are standing behind their employees shoddy work. Again, this is a 3 year old roof having to be replaced. And its being replaced solely because their employees did not install this roof correctly. And that is what Clayton homes own person told us!Review fromPhilip O

First off, it is 1 star only because you can't give 0. We bought our home from Clayton Homes of Troy, MO in 2021. Everything started off great with the salesperson, but soon went downhill when we had to deal with the person in charge of the location, Tim Donaldson. We were told that the home we were purchasing came with a screen door for the front, it just wasn't put on the model home. When our home arrived, no screen door. When we asked about it, we were told it didn't come with one, of course not what we were told when we bought the home. We confronted Tim about this and he said the salesperson didn't know that this home did not come with one and he would get something together to get us one. To this date, this has not been done. After the home was set up, it was supposed to be thoroughly cleaned, and made sure everything was in working order. Of course, that wasn't the case either. We had to sweep all the floors and clean up the debris that was left. The kitchen sink was leaking and had to be fixed. There was also a shoe print on the wall. As time went on it became clear that they did not like coming to fix things that needed to be fixed. Our warranty was up in August of 2023 on the home from the manufacturer. We called Clayton back in August 2022 because the sliding door lock broke. We were told they would put us on the list to get it fixed. This is now May 2023 and the lock still hasn't been fixed, but we are told we are on the list to be fixed. Tim refuses to take our calls. He is a fast talker and never writes anything down, so it is no wonder nothing he says ever gets done and you can't trust him. I can't see how the state's attorney general has not shut this place down. Do not buy from here, EVER!!!Clayton Homes, Inc.

Good afternoon Mr. ****** thank you for taking the time to reach out and share your experience with purchasing a Clayton Home. We're sorry to hear that you have been experiencing issues with service. Clayton provides a one-year manufacturer's warranty, which expired August 2022. You did purchase the extended warranty, however, and service requests will need to be directed through Home First. Please contact them at 1-800-804-9389.Philip O

Initial call was before the warranty expired, check their records for first contact. Doesn’t explain the screen door and other things that you failed to fix during the warranty calls and warranty period. Good excuse though.Review fromMatthew S

I started working with a gentleman at Clayton Homes back in January 2023. (We were gonna meet this Friday May 26 ,2023 to finalize everything.) We had checked out several different mobile home dealers. We asked this gentleman if they matched prices. He said “Heck yeah, what are you looking at and where”. So we talked several times about the details. But because we were taking our time, making sure we were making the right decision because that’s a lot of money to be spending. We were also getting our financing together and getting perk test for starters. He got mean and nasty He told me “we don’t need to meet Friday or any other day. I’m done thanks best of luck go buy it somewhere else.” Which is fine. I will. We was very rude and nasty. I will never recommend someone to Clayton Homes if that is the kind of customer service you get. Oh and BTW using profanity to sell your product is not a good look.Clayton Homes, Inc.

I second the majority of these complaints. After looking at our mobile home sit on our lot in pieces “because other structures were of higher priority” we’ve had nothing but issues ever since. Their service tech has come out numerous times and could only stay for a few hours because he couldn’t leave the office until 8 or sometimes 9 and had to be back before 5 “cause they didn’t want to pay overtime”. We have pebbles under the linoleum in several places, some have been fixed but others not, trim and wall strips are popping off the walls. My daughter has stepped on many nails that are popping up from under the marriage strip. We can feel the outside breeze through where the walls are supposed to connect. The track around the sliding door is completely broken. We sent them messages when we noticed the crack and they said someone would come look at it and no one has. Walls are not braced properly, and that came from factory personnel who did come up and repair some, put in a work order for other stuff, but they’ve not been sent back. All this in 7 months. We moved in 2 days before thanksgiving last year after being promised that we’d be in it in late August/early September. We have since been in contact with them to figure out what we need to do and have been ignored. I have kept every single email and picture that we’ve sent them.Clayton Homes, Inc.

Hi Jessica, thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience with us. Clayton Homes strives to provide quality service and an excellent customer experience. We're sorry to hear of these frustrations, as our team did an on-site inspection with Mr. Gibbs and had four items pointed out to us that day, none of which are listed in this review. It has been recommended that a state complaint be filed in order to resolve these issues.Jessica G.

I understand that a field rep came out and looked at the house and they agreed that there was work to be done in several places. My husband has to take time off from a very busy schedule to meet with them. I didn’t because my opinion and my correspondence had been overlooked numerous times. Not everything may have been discussed that day but these concerns have been put forward to the project and agency manager.
When you say state, who are you referring to? Like attorney, cause that has crossed our minds several times.Review fromDenise R

I bought a brand new 2022 home and when we received it and they placed 2018 appliances in our 2022 home and the refrigerator needed repairs. We were instructed to call the warranty dept on items that were supposed to be brand new. We have broken drawers in kitchen that we had them to repair several times, drawers still broken. We had to keep calling several times on the hot water heater that was leaking. It took several weeks to fix.Clayton Homes, Inc.

Clayton sold us a newly constructed mobile home that still has a leaky back door, crooked front door, ac leaking in kitchen buckling floor boards, trim still popped off in places, interior walls separating from exterior walls, plug-ins that are crooked, bathroom cabinet doors that won't shut right. They have barely attempted to fix the issues. I would not recommend any of their products.Clayton Homes, Inc.

We have had problems from the very beginning! Our story is quite long, so I will try to make this has short as possible. Buying a home should be a pleasant experience. Ours definitely was not! We have purchased a home previously so we understood the process, ect. First go around we were treated respectfully and they did everything in the contract. This house purchase every time a worker would come to “fix” something they would either make it worse or break cause more problems with our house. We were told we had a 1 year warranty. It’s been 9 months and they are acting like they don’t want to honor our contract. This company messed up our rug next up our fireplace. They have attempted to “fix” several times! It looks worse than it did when they first started the “fixing process. The rug is literally pealing off the floor. I have sent pictures and videos. It’s pretty clear in both that it looks atrocious! Their response was they didn’t see they problem. We also have a bathroom door that won’t shut or lock. They are several more issues. My husband contacted them after last visit and they said we are in process of scheduling them to come back out. We waited over a month. We had not heard anything so we reached out yesterday. The same person he spoke with flat out lied and said he never spoke to my husband in regards to that and that they had already been out. I would love for them to get the job done correctly when they are in. This is ridiculous that they do such a poor job I have to repeatedly contact in regards to the same issue and some new ones. I would never recommend this company to anyone! If we could go back we would patronize this place at all. Totally disrespectful! All they are about is money! They don’t care one bit about doing the right thing and standing behind their contracts/promises and products! Repulsive!Clayton Homes, Inc.

Thank you, Veronica, for sharing your experience with us. We are sorry to hear that the warranty service has not met your expectations. We were able to review the service history with the homes manufacturer and according to Giles there is no pending service they are aware of. Based on the review of the service records, all pending warranty service has been completed and signed off on. Clayton Homes always gives some type of bull response. Trust them to do nothing no matter what the problems are. CLAYTON clearly doesn't care. "I'm sorry you feel that way" doesn't cut it. Very poor quality Material and manufacturing. Will have to rebuild the entire home and still would not pass. The FTC, BBB and many other sites across the US has extensive poor reports against Clayton Homes. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM CLAYTONClayton Homes, Inc.

Mr. G***, thank you for sharing your feedback. Again, we do apologize for these frustrations, but they are out of the facility's control and responsibility. The vents were sealed from the factory, but due to the hot sun cracking and drying out the caulk they need to be re-sealed by the home owner through out to maintain no leaking. Clayton Homes will not be compensating for the repairs as these were home owner neglect. The Home Building Facility has reviewed and outlined the following: Roof Vents have never been sealed yearly allowing water to enter the home. Various holes in siding likely from a rock while mowing; these needed to be sealed to prevent water intrusion and rot. There is a roof vent there at the stove vent and neither have been sealed causing the water to leak in on the stove. With this conclusion it has been determined, there is not a manufacture’s defect. Please see pages 21-28 in your Clayton Homeowner's Manual regarding maintenance.
