We have owned a single wife clayton home for 12 years. Something should have told us how poorly constructed it was when they delivered it and it had a crack in the wall below the window in the kitchen. Since then we have had damage in the bathroom from fixtures not properly tightened. In the past 3 years we have had leaks in the roof. We resealed around the vents to no avail. We are having to replace the roof around all the vents. There are gaps where there is no board's under the shingles. I am very, very disgusted with the quality of workmanship. I would not recommend anyone to buy a Clayton. Buyer Beware!!!Clayton Homes, Inc.

Barbara, thank you for providing your feedback! We are sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your home. All Clayton homes have a one-year manufacturer's warranty that covers defects in the construction of the home that are present at the time of manufacturing. Although your home is out of warranty, we would be happy to review an official insurance adjuster's report if their findings are related to the construction of your home.Review fromR. S.

I bought this house about 3 1/2 years ago. The quality and workmanship is pretty bad. The only thing worse has been trying to get StarWest homes to fix any problems. It finally got to the point where I said don’t bother anymore. Since then I have had to spend money and a lot of time to fix some of these problems. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a home. Between quality and customer service they are horrendous. Even their customer advocacy department doesn’t return phone calls. STAY AWAY!!Clayton Homes, Inc.

Richard, thank you for providing your feedback! We are sorry to hear about the experience that you are having with you home. We are unfortunately not affiliated with StarWest Homes, but if you can provide your manufacturer's serial number, we would happy to check if this is a home built by Clayton. If so, we will reach out to the facility that built your home regarding the concerns you are having.R. S.

1 starAvoid their Modular home, buy a traditional stick-built home!! After building five traditional homes, we purchased a high-end modular home from Clayton in Kodak, Tennessee. Why? They preached that the home was of the same quality and that when completed in the factory, it would be available for occupancy on my lot in just four to six weeks, not the normal six months it takes to build a traditional home. Based on this premise, we sold our home and opted to live in a hotel for the handful of weeks remaining. Well, let's just say that the four to six weeks became over five months, costing me $12,000 in temporary accommodations. Over the course of the five months, it was excuse after excuse and broken promise after broken promise!! I was thinking that Clayton might have some liability but the small print in the contract allows them to take as long as they want despite their initial time commitment. In the end, we could have had a traditional home of higher quality built in the time it took Clayton to simply place their Modular home on my lot and prepare it for occupancy. Our nightmare is over!! Don't make the same mistake!!Review fromCasey F

5 stars1/24/2023 Oakwood Homes, Greenville, NC (CMH Homes DBA Oakwood Homes #716) I started working with the Greenville, NC location at the end of October 2022. By November we made our decision to buy the house that we “loved”. By December 2 we signed our loan docs. On December 12 we went to the sales location to view the home. On December 13 the house was delivered. I have so far been more than 100% satisfied with this whole process. Now of course we have not moved into the home, however we are waiting on the local electric company to install our electricity so that the repair crew can come fix the things we noticed in our walk through. However, throughout this process I have not had to ask for a single update because daily the General Manager Chris ***** has emailed me with detailed updates. I of course was so nervous about this process because I have heard all of the bad experiences but thank God that has not been my experience. I even sent over a 52 page attachment to the manager of things that I noticed needed repair (of course the majority of the pages were single pictures), but the response I got wasn’t anything besides “all of these are very reasonable” and the information was passed to the service department immediately. As of today, I would not only recommend everyone to the Greenville, NC location I would absolutely beg you to not go through anyone but Oakwood of Greenville, NC if they serve your area. I will update this again once the repairs are given attention but as of right now this company has a 10 start review with me. As a side note in my situation, I feel that Greenville, NC succeeds so well because the salesman does their part but then the General Manager takes over and attends to the day to day which has made me so confident, as of now in this whole process. I will update once this is over, and we are able to move in and see how they handle the repairs. -CASEYReview fromMiles M.

1 starClayton home is a mischievous company . I have been dealing with them for a year now . In a home with no certificate of occupancy. They told me I’m responsible because I didn’t use their sub contractor offered . Lies lies and more lies . They sent me a contractor and was given a quote . Didn’t hear from him again . Then was told he had a death in the family and they didn’t have any idea when or if he could do garage and porches . So they sent me this other guy they recommended. He built deck and no garage . Deck was built not to code . He only had 2 guys . Clayton said he had 4 . Now I had to run him off because he did not have a contractors license . Kieth said they checked him out and he had good references. Lol. It’s costing me a lot of money to fix his bad work . So they will say anything to try to cover their lies . Including lying to county building office . Once they get your money it’s a oh well it’s on you attitude. They can not do what they say they are capable of . They sent me a refund for dormers today . The sub /non contractor did not have the crew to be able to do . No matter what they say they are truly not professional and are misleading .Review fromAngela B

I was told Clayton Homes had nothing to do with Tru Homes or Living Southern. Why did these companies. Finally come to my home for an inspection in Dec.2022. The State sent All these companies a letter inviting them to an inspection April 2021. They all failed to come.
My home was Poorly Constructed by the manufacturer. The factory people Failed to install the Receptacles properly, half connected, damaged, broken, falling into/out of the wall's- the holes were cut too big to hold receptacles they were also installed with one screw. I have burning smells from the front door-living room all the way to the fridge at the end of the kitchen. I lost power in three rooms, the receptacles trip every time it rains all day/heavy down pour-due to moisture/condensation in the walls. I had one receptacles installed with Live wires-no nut caps! I was told by Clayton Homes "All I had to do was push in a plug all the way into a damaged receptacle it would not push into." I wonder why my fridge would defrost or not cool.
I have surges, flickering, make noises coming from light fixtures. I was told by Tru-"All I had to do was insert a new bulb". Really, after 2 years and 7 months and no one has bothered to check the wiring! I have water coming in on of the bedrooms, I was told by Tru's attorney "He didn't see anything/it was raining". It WASN'T raining during the inspection, four men walked the roof then stood having a conversation.- Not a on wet roof in the rain! My home was delivered Damaged interior /exterior June 2020. The warranty Wasn't honored at all! I phoned, emailed and text for a year, filed reports etc. I still need repairs done. Tru's attorney stated. The home is Livable and All repairs were done- Not true! Hurricane Sally is being blamed for all damages to the home even . electrical and plumbing damages. The red plate on the house "The home was "Inspected" and the manufacturer Certifies it was built under Federal Law" Not true it Was not! the home is a lemon.Clayton Homes, Inc.

Ms. *******, thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback with us. Clayton Homes strives to provide each customer with excellent care, and we're sorry to hear that you are unsatisfied with our service thus far. Clayton Homes and the home building facility have completed extensive work on your home throughout the warranty period, along with other entities. The home building facility was not notified of the issues currently being complained about and was never requested to perform repairs under its warranty that is now expired. If there are any findings in the state complaint that would warrant further action from the home building facility, we are happy to review that documentation from the state.Review fromTheresa H.

I WILL NEVER REFER ******* HOMES TO ANYONE
Have had nothing but issues on our ******* home. There r so many to list that I would go over the allotted character limit!!! The issue that I am now dealing with ******* is about our vent in our master bathroom. There is hardly any airflow coming from that vent versus the vent in our master bedroom which blows with much force. I keep getting excuses from the location we bought our home from and now from the corporate office! The HVAC company. Came out and did hardly anything but found a small kink in the vent under house fixed it but didn't check the flow and said he couldn't do any more! Said we would need to add a vent! Now tell me if one vent doesn't work what would two do? No flow in one = no flow in 2!!! And I would have to pay for that also even though they offered their contractor mgr to pay half I would still need to pay. They also said the house was inspected and built to HUD spec. Really???
These are the things that needed to be fixed: most were done except the tub and heat vent and front door yet
The outside back outlet was not hooked up properly so did not work. There was no cold Water flow in the master shower at all did not turn on. The outlet on our island was not secured so it came out. A big crack in our ceiling. The barn door was not secured either and it flew off the track!
Our driveway had mounds of stone dumped and not laid properly so couldn't park bc would get stuck
Tub was installed in our master bath told them did not want a tub from the start they ordered the house with a tub but no one informed us that our master bath was not what we were showed
Front door doesnt close properly bc u can see light come through if u don't slam it shut
Had the smoke det replaced bc they would go off on their own with nothing wrong.
AND THIS HOUSE WAS INSPECTED!!!Clayton Homes, Inc.

Hi Theresa, thank you for reaching out and providing this feedback. ******* Homes strives to provide a world class customer experience, and we've communicated your concerns to the retail location you worked with. They spoke with you regarding the vent concerns, and what our service technicians completed. You also understood that the home was pre-ordered, and the tub was not able to be removed by our team since it was a house that was already signed off on and in production, which was agreed upon that the time. The driveway was installed properly, as contracted. Any other items mentioned have been addressed and resolved. We currently have two items that are pending for service and have agreed upon the schedule. We look forward to serving you.Theresa H.

I ca. see that u DIDNOT read my comments above!! I SAID the driveway was installed improperly stone just dumped in a manner that no one could park nor back into our driveway which took ******* 2 mos to get fixed! And NO IT WAS NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY!
In regards to the tub in Our master bath we signed and explained from the beginning of our purchase process we DIDNOT want a tub there. ******* went ahead and ordered this house WITH A TUB IN IT!! NO ONE COMMUNICATED THAT TO US SO WE WERE AWARE!!
Now we have a tub we did not want.
YOUR COMPANY CAN DOUBLE TALK AS MUCH AS U WANT BUT IN ESSENCE WE R. VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THE WORK THAT WAS DONE AND THE EXCUSES THAT R ALWAYS GIVEN FOR THE SHODDY WORK AND LAZINESS OF THE WORKMANSHIP!
There are so many other issues that we had that I didnot list.
I DO NOT ACCEPT YOUR RESPONSE AND I WILL NOT RECOMMEND YOUR COMPANY TO ANYONE!!Review fromBrittany S

Wouldn't even give this company a one star review at all, I have had issues with multiple of their office staff for months now. We ordered our home in June of 2021, we were told the home would be finished by February of 2022. After calling multiples times back & forth between the office we used I was given the run around many times on items being back ordered & our home kept getting pushed back over & over. We were originally told our home would be done in February, then it moved to May, then July and we didn't end up moving in until after September of 2022. This company is a total joke. When we moved in there were some issues in our home that needed to be addressed right away, our glass shower door wouldn't stay closed making it hard to use the shower; I asked someone to come fix this right away and was told they had to get factory approval before they sent someone out.. It took a service person 3 weeks to come out to our home to fix this. The biggest issue we've had since being in our home is every single one of our windows have been sweating; I addressed this issue to our service tech & he claims "this is perfectly normal".. now I am starting to notice mold growing in between our window sill & the glass itself. After bringing this issue up to our service tech he again said he would contact the factory for approval on this.. it's been 2 weeks since I've noted this issue & they still haven't heard anything from the factory on this mold issue. Every single day I am emptying our dehumidifier multiple times because of how much moisture is in our home. I have left on our whole house ventilation fan & we run exhaust fans while showering & cooking. Our thermostat is set for 68 degrees and we continue to get moisture like crazy. This is a huge issue & I am so disappointed that no one is helping this issue at all & moving faster on something that is a health concern. DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS COMPANY AT ALL.Clayton Homes, Inc.

Hi Brittany, thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience with us. We strive to provide a world-class customer experience, and we're sorry to hear of your frustrations with getting repairs addressed. The retail location was made aware of the window moisture not long after the move in date, at which point they reached out to the factory, and had the service tech dry everything up and take a look at the window seals, and he reported they were in good shape, so they asked the homeowner to monitor it and let us know if the moisture came back. We were reported that you reached out to them on December 28th and said there was mold growing in the windows. The service tech informed the factory on the 29th. The general manager has remained in contact with you (recently as yesterday) to inform that we were waiting for the manufacturer to get back to us on how they want to handle the issue. The factory provided an update on their end, and we will be contacting you directly that the plant authorized a service visit, that they are shipping parts, and that we will call you to schedule a warranty appointment once we receive them. Thank you for your patience.Review fromKarron T

Bought a home from them. Went through 3 salesmen and honestly had it not been for me calling they would have let us walk out without buying a home all together. So now here we are a year later we are in our new home, but let me tell you what, throughout the setup there were a ton of problems (we have on site cameras so we saw the construction happen) from workers being nosey on our property to them just throwing screws all about out land that went to the home and problems after problems. One year later some of those problems we reported never got looked at nor fixed so now *******'s is "not responsible" and we get to go through insurance and pay deductibles on things they should have fixed when they were reported! They on purpose waited for the warranty to run out so they wouldn't have to make any further repairs! I highly do not recommend buying from them! I will never send anyone their way nor will I ever purchase from them again!Clayton Homes, Inc.

Didn't follow through on fixing issues with my home. And the things they did fix were half **** done and did not even last a week. Then lied about fixing the issues and waited for my warranty to run out and now refuses to call me back or fix The problems that I have been after them for months about.Clayton Homes, Inc.
