I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with American Home Shields handling of my refrigerator claim. Over the past nine months, I have paid ~$700 for coverage, trusting that my appliances would be protected. However, now that my refrigerator has broken, AHS is refusing to cover the replacement, citing a questionable loophole related to a "power surge." I expect AHS to honor the coverage I have paid for and reimburse me for the replacement cost. Initially, I approved the out-of-pocket as well, but they would come out and fix the refrigerator for ~20 days. The last time tech came out on 31st March and 1st April, he said I would have to pay a lot more than $578 assessed. The original refrigerator is a Kitchenaid high-end brand worth $4k with only 7-8 years of use life. The tenant has been living w/o a fridge for a month now, which triggered me to order a replacement fridge so that they are not harassed anymore.I have already spent $125 on an assessment and an additional $85 for a second opinion. After a month-long delay, I have now spent $1,200 on a new refrigeratoran expense that should have been covered under my policy. I initially wanted to get it repaired based on their recommendation even if out of my pocket. They didn't repair it and kept delaying. Eventually, we got tired and ordered a replacement at our own cost. I contacted AHS to cancel my service and remove my credit card from the account, yet my request was denied. Instead, I was offered a free service, but I was still charged in the next billing cycle. This demonstrates deceptive business practices designed to keep my credit card on file for continuous charges, which is *************** worst fears came into play as the tenant is not going to renew their lease.

After nine years as a customer with **********************, weve reached our breaking point. Despite our long-standing loyalty, AHS has repeatedly denied coverage, provided no meaningful benefit or loyalty recognition, and failed to justify the value of their service. Weve paid more in premiums over the years than we've received in actual covered repairs a net loss for us.Most recently, we submitted a claim to repair a faulty shower valve. A technician from ******* Plumbing was dispatched but was unable to remove the valve. He diagnosed the issue and submitted his findings to AHS. AHS denied the claim, categorizing the necessary work as a modification, which they do not cover. This classification is both inaccurate and misleading. Replacing a worn-out valve with a new one is a standard repair not a redesign or reconfiguration of the plumbing system. I communicated this to AHS directly, but they stood by the denial. Notably, two independent plumbing companies also assessed the issue and confirmed that the work required is not a modification but a straightforward part replacement.AHS appears to use the term modification as a blanket excuse to avoid fulfilling legitimate repair obligations. This practice feels deceptive and contrary to the spirit of a home warranty agreement. Were extremely disappointed with how this case and many others have been handled, and we will be discontinuing our relationship with AHS.

I was tricked into signing up for auto renew with the promise of my first service fee being waived. I was indeed charged $100 service fee and after three separate phone calls to dispute the charge I was told they still had no resolve, and there was an open investigation which they clearly werent actively investigating. I dont know why they think its okay to lie to customers and give empty promises. Terrible customer **********************.

I've been paying my monthly dues, and paid the $125 fee for them to send out a HVAC technician. The technician comes out and says our system is fine, however the return is undersized for a 3 ton unit, and we have a little bio growth in the evaporator. We get denied because the bio growth is not covered which is causing tbe system to fail. Then Integrity Air of Ft. *****, sends a quote of $8000 to replace the total system less the duct work, which may need modifications for proper operations of the new equipment. I'd pass right along past AHS if I was seeking a home protection service, oh snap, I will be looking for a home protection service. Seems that they have key words if a technician has in a report that supercedes all other issues and claim that is the root cause and deny coverage, Lowes or ********** have an evaporator coil cleaner for $8.

If I could chose a 0 star rating I would. American Joke shield is a scam. I had a contractor come out to service my AC unit, claim was denied because contractor stated I had missing parts. The part that was missing was a pipe that would run on the outside of my home. The first *** stated that because it was denied it became preexisting. Asked for retention and was questioned several times on why before I stated that o would hang up and call back to get to retention, I also asked if I was being denied to speak with them. The *** also stated not to discuss my denial with them because it would not help. Safe to say, I did anyway and was able to get a second opinion on my original claim. I would *** RECOMMEND this company to anyone. The only thing they are good for is ***lacing or ***airing appliances. Anything other than that they are quick to say its not in the contract or covered. I be glad when a class action lawsuit is brought up against them.

This company is absolutely terrible. I have had so many issues with verbiage and nonsense on their claims process. I had an electrician come out and he was going to change my outlets out because like 6 of them are worn and old and the plugs don't stay in. AHS called them and asked for details on what they wanted to do, they said that they wanted to switch out the outlets because they are old and worn. They will be switching them out with better newer outlets that are to code. AHS said, you can switch them out because they are old and worn BUT because you said you are going to switch them out with ones that are new and to code we won't approve it because you used the word code and now it sounds like a code upgrade, which we don't cover. I HATE THIS COMPANY - Literally this kind of nonsense is their norm. DO NOT USE AHS!!!!!!!!!!!

Consumers beware! I have been using AHS for almost three years now. I would recommend saving the money you use for your monthly subscription and service fees and subcontract your own repairs/replacements. AHS uses bottom of the barrel contractors to make repairs to your appliances. My most recent experience with AHS was involving my refrigerator. I made a claim for my refrigerator for not cooling properly on 03/31/25. it is now two months later, and my refrigerator is still not fixed. The contactor AHS used to complete to job is *** TECHNOLOGY REPAIRS. *** has 1.7 stars on ****** and for good reason. *** has been dispatched to my house more than four times. Replacing the wrong parts, ordering the wrong parts, and misdiagnosing my refrigerator. *** also has zero communication, won't respond to calls, emails, etc. Now that my freezer door has fallen off and is leaking water, due do improper installation. AHS is insisting that *** has to be the contactor to come back out an make the repairs/diagnostic. I have been nothing but understanding, patient, and professional up to this point with AHS. When I called to explain the new problem with my freezer door falling off, I was told *** was my only option. Even though I was previously promised they would never be assigned to a future work order. When I requested to speak to a supervisor, I was told there weren't any available, but I could request one, and a supervisor would reach out to me in 24 hours. 38 hours later I received a call from the "escalation department" (not a supervisor). The escalation department again promised me that a supervisor would be reaching out to me in another 24 hours to help resolve my issue. It seems every time I call into AHS to get an update, request service, or explain an issue, nothing is every notated correctly, and no one really cares to help. If you are in the market for a home warranty, I would highly suggest skipping over AHS. Sincerely, an extremely dissatisfied customer, ****** *.

Absolutely the worst home warranty experience ever! I placed a service call 5/17/2024. A tech came out 5/20/205. The part needed for ***air was found to be no longer available. I was advised by customer ********************** they needed a writtien ***ort from Whirlpool. I spoke with Whirlpool as did **** from AHS and the ***ort was sent 3 times. At the poit of being 2 weeks without my appliance and hundreds of dollars sent on eating out, I was told AHS can do nothing because they don't have a ***ort. Today the rudest *** from escalations called and told me he wasn't a supervisor and I couldn't speak to anyone else until tomorrow. I am livid. I called corporate and left a message. I am demanding a resolution! Horrible and poor service is all I have experienced. No empathy or understanding. I have continued to pay my monthly membership fee and the service fee but my money is basically stolen because I still do not have a working appliance. Buyers beware of AHS.
