      I’m submitting a formal complaint regarding how American Home Shield (AHS) has handled my first HVAC claim. AHS sent a provider from XPress Heating and Cooling, who quoted over $13,000 for a replacement using Goodman appliances. AHS stated they would cover $7,500. Concerned by the high estimate and the quality of the equipment, I consulted a licensed, reputable provider outside of the AHS network. That provider offered a quote for higher-quality Lennox equipment at a significantly lower cost.
      Due to the large discrepancy and lack of confidence in the initial recommendation, I requested a second opinion from another in-network provider, as outlined in my policy. AHS denied this request, stating I was only seeking a second opinion because I didn’t want to pay out-of-pocket. This is untrue and felt dismissive. I understand some costs are my responsibility; however, the quote provided by the first contractor was appalling when compared to industry standards.
      Instead of honoring my request, AHS offered a $2,000 cash-out, far below the $5,000 limit outlined in my policy. This forced choice between accepting an inflated quote or a lowball payout feels misleading and unethical. It appears AHS is prioritizing preferred vendors over customer satisfaction and policy compliance.
      I am requesting a full review of my claim, approval for a second in-network opinion, and a revised payout in line with my coverage. This experience has been incredibly disappointing, and I feel defrauded by the way this claim has been managed.

      I sold real estate for *************** and recommended AHS for several years. I had paid for AHS for several years and when I tried to file a claim I got transferred over and over to a call center in the ***********. Never got to file the claim because *** kept saying I need to talk to a supervisor but they never called back. After several days of frustration. I paid for the ***airs on my a/c and canceled AHS.

      I had an upstairs AC unit to go out. Filed a claim with American Home Shield. **** came out to inspect unit. Told me that my old unit couldn't be fixed because the refrigerant R22 was no longer available. The new unit was some where around $8000.00. Home Shield would only cover $1800.00 of the cost, due to the fact that the whole unit, inside and outside needed replacing and they didn't cover complete replacements. I later had another unit go out, after I had dropped Home Shield and acquired another warranty company. The tech for this company told me that he could still get R22 refrigerant and I wouldn't have to replace the whole unit. It still hasn't been fixed. Home Shield left me with a $6500 bill that I'm still struggling to pay, along with other obligations. As stated earlier, I dropped the coverage. I feel that it's not worth it to keep paying premiums and not get the results this company advertise that they provide.

      I have been with AHS for 6 years. Every year the last 3 years they have increased the price by $50 a month. The same exact plan I have if I were to sign up as a new member is $113.99 a month. But for a 6 year customer is now $205 a month. When I called and asked to renew my contract at the same price of a new member they refused sighting increased cost of labor and equipment. So the cost goes up for existing loyal customers but that does not apply to new members. The labor and parts didn't go up for them I assume. Once they get you in they make it extremely difficult to cancel. You literally have to raise your voice and be difficult to deal with to cancel. All they have to do is offer me the same price as a loyal customer as a new member. Had to go through 3 reps on the phone just to cancel. It has literally become more expensive than my homeowners insurance. Better off putting the money in a savings account for those rainy days and finding a local repair person that is trustworthy. 6 years ago it was $75 a month for the same plan as I have now.

      READ BEFORE SIGNING UP. YOU CAN NOT EVEN LEAVE THEM REVIEW IN ****** REVIEW!!! **SCAM******** Fixes, Not Real Solutions They never aim to solve the actual issue. Instead, they push for the cheapest possible temporary fix often resulting in additional expenses on top of the /$125 service fee**. In my case, a technician claimed to fix my dryer without even testing it. Days later, the dryer didnt start at all.2. Unreliable ************************ Practices The technician failed to document key findings, and later ordered parts without returning to inspect the issue. These technicians are not held accountable. They often exploit the system to upsell services directly to customers and use scare tactics to push unnecessary work.3. AHS Protects the Technician Not the Customer ********************** consistently sides with their contractors. They manipulate language in their policies to deny coverage for example, refusing to replace a basic dryer duct (a /$20 item at **********) because they "only repair, not clean" vents. Its a dishonest technicality used to avoid paying for anything meaningful.4. Customer ********************** is a Maze of Frustration Reaching customer ********************** is exhausting. Most agents are outsourced, with **poor language proficiency and minimal understanding of customer care.** Trying to explain or resolve issues feels impossible. It took me over **one hour on the phone just to cancel my membership.5. Difficult to Cancel Easy to Get Trapped AHS uses psychological scarcity and limited-time offers to get you to sign up. Once youre in, they ******* you with bonus offers and incentives to keep you locked into the plan but when the time comes to use the service, they fail to deliver.6. A Middleman You Dont Need By using AHS, you are essentially paying for an expensive middleman who contributes nothing to the actual repair. Instead, they introduce delays, vague policies, and contractors motivated to upsell you rather than fix the issue.

      They do not use competant repair companies. They also will do anything they can to keep trying to repair abd refuse go replace. 6 weeks without a fridge, still could not fix afyer 5 visits. Called to cancel warrenty and the customer srrvice **** are trained to steer you away from cancelling.. cancellation took 1 hr in *****. I was out $125 service fee and 2 year of membership costs.

      If I could give 0 stars I would. They are the absolute worst company ever to deal with. I have not been able to use my refrigerator for 2 weeks. My fridge stopped cooling and they have been out 5 times now and still misdiagnosed what the cause is. Each time they have come out they close out the service request and then want $100 to send a technician out to attempt to fix the same issue they didn't fix on the previous service request. If you call they, will not answer your question and I even had someone hangup on me when I asked what the status was on parts that they ordered. Take my advice and do not do business with them!

      If AHS can't follow their contract, they need to be discredited. They don't follow the contract, always a reason to not pay what their contract states

      American home shield is simply horrible. At this point I feel its a scam to collect hard working citizens money. We have had 5 service calls for the same issue with the A/C unit and probably 3 for the dishwasher. We asked if they could send someone else out and they said to open another work order would cost 100 dollars. So, at what point is the company held reliable for not fixing the product, instead of charging the customer again for the same issue. I have already cancelled AHS for one property and it looks like Im going to have to find someone else for our rental properties. I wouldnt suggest AHS to anyone!
