On June 24, 2024 I exited a parking garage that is apparently managed by SP Parking. Two attempts were made using my phone to pay using apple pay. Upon learning the apple pay did not process I promptly manually entered payment details and on June 25, 2024 at 6pm Est the payment was processed. I have an email confirmation from Parking.com. On July 1, 2024 a letter was sent by SP+ Enforcement showing a parking notice. The unpaid parking fee matched the amount I paid. Upon receiving the letter I attempted to appeal using the website provided on the letter. The website returned an message that an appeal was not allowed. I called the phone number provided on the parking.com payment confirmation on July 22 2024 around 11am and was berated by a female employee who hung up on me. Upon calling back I was told I would need to submit a dispute to an email address.Business Response

I have been parking at a lot in ******************** since 2017, located at ****************. For the entirety of this time, I have been paying for parking via a payment terminal in front of the lot. On Friday, July 5th, I returned to my car to find that there was a $55 parking citation on the windshield, despite paying at the terminal as I usually do. I reached out to the company, SP+, for clarification on the citation, and received a response from ***************************** 4 days later, simply stating that the payment terminal is not theirs. I reached out for further clarification, as I have been paying for dozens of hours of parking at this lot over several months at that terminal AND have never received a citation or notice about a payment issue. ***************************** only responded that the terminal is not theirs and that there is a ** code for payment. The lot has a big sign advertising itself, which features a large blue circle with a white P in it, indicating parking- the same logo that is on the payment terminal. The ** code is further down the sign, and really only visible if you approach the sign from the East Exit (I access the lot via the **********, which has no sign). I reached out for further clarification- past receipts I have on file (the terminal in that location used to print receipts, but does not as of 2022) clearly say SP+, the *** on the lot's sign does not lead to a functional website (would the ** code even work?), and if the terminal is not theirs I need to know so that I can pay properly when I use the lot in the future. I would also like the citation dropped (or at least know the status of the citation!), due to the unclear nature of the entire situation. IF I am using the wrong terminal, it was an honest mistake, and the lot needs better signs, indicating how to properly pay for parking... but I have received no further replies since July 10th. I do not need this thing going to collections because they are negligent in their communications.Business Response

The surface lot located at 1626 Walnut requires a permit to park on that lot as stated on the signs at that location. There is a machine located on Walnut which is owned and operated by the city for street parking.
Please contact the city to dispute any payment made to this machine.

I am rejecting this response because SP+ Parking completely got the facts of the matter wrong. They are referring to a totally different lot on a totally different street. Their response does not address or resolve this dispute in any way. The fact that they waited a full 10 days to respond to this with incorrect info makes it seem like they are purposely dragging their feet so they can send the citation to collections. I sent a reply to ************** at BBB containing my full reply.

I do not live in *********** and visit my friend dying from cancer. While stopping to get him ice cream at a local place ( *******************). I parked in a lot apparently owned by this company. Parking prices are on a sign. LUCKILY an attendant was there in a vest and happily collected my parking fee of $6. Fast forward to June 10, 2024, I receive a collections notice stating I never paid for this lot. And I owe $38! What?! Upon logging online and viewing this companies track record, they do this all the time. But my case is unique because there apparently is NO ATTENDANT at these lots. So I log onto the website to see about negotiating a reduced payment. There is no option to do so even though both the website and mail handout claim a way to dispute the charge. I then received a collections notice stating my ticket has not been pain in 45 days. Ticket was sent 6/10/2024. Collections received from ********** ********************************** On 07/05/2024. Apparently it's 45 days from the original violation date that I never even knew about. I called the seemingly fake law office company and a very rude and hostile lady told me they are not able to negotiate or reduce. I politely told her I'm aware this is a constant racket and scam, that many others are able to at least get a reduction in fine. Because I see similar cases online. The lady (*******) told me that all payments must be made in full on the original SP plus parking website. I logged on and paid the $38.75 I feel this is price gouging and fraud and do not appreciate SP Plus conductBusiness Response

Good morning,
I looked over the information on the complaint. We show that no inital dispute was made to SP Plus. If this had been done a team memeber from SP Plus would have reached out with options regarding the violation. ********** is our 3rd party collection agency that sends out notice after our intial ciation letter goes out. They do not handle any disputes as they stated. The origianl citation had the website top right corner that stated "to pay or appeal" that was the intial step that should have been taken to get any releif of any kind.

I am rejecting this response because:Unfortunately that option does not exist. It says so on your website but is not listed anywhere after inputting the citation number. It's obvious you don't want to conduct honest business and prefer to show favoritism to other clients in the same situation. I'm simply asking to pay the same adjusted rate as others. It's unfortunate you do not choose to make it right or fair.

You guys are disappointing. I contacted the original company and provided documentation and names and dates and still the company lies and you side with them. This was a waste of time and I'm unsure what the point of having this complaint system even is. Is there a way to report the better business bureau for aiding fraud?

April 28, 2024 I parked in a garage where the arm was up. There was a qr code to pay and it did not work. The in person pay station was not operational either. As I left the lot there was no place or ability to pay. I received a letter from a collections agency for an amount of $63.19 claiming that I was issued an unpaid ticket. I never received any kind of notification that I was issued any kind of ticket. Another instance where I had no option to pay. I would have gladly paid for parking or the ticket if the options were ever available to me but they were not. Having this sent to collections with zero notice is clearly a predatory practice that has affected me and many others. Additionally the car is registered in my mothers name and is affecting her credit.Business Response

On 07/08/2024 I received a collections letter stating I owed $43.50 to ***************************** formally SP Plus Corporation. I had Lunch on 04/24/2024 and used their Kiosk to pay for my parking. I did not think twice about it. No one from their company sent me any type of notice that parking was owed. I went to their website and no number to call, only email communication. I do not owe them $43.50 for parking an hour. They need to have better communication and verbiage on their kiosks. They need to reduce this amount down to the hour I actually used and let me know where I can send a check. I'll make sure and never use kiosk parking again!Business Response

Hello - Our company policy on violations at this location is that a physical ticket is left under the windshield wiper at the time of issuance. If for some reason that didn't happen on this occasion I apologize. I've discounted the violation down to $20 which would have been the fare on this day, since this is your first violation with us a company. If you made a payment on this day please email your receipt to ********************************* and we can investigate further.

I parked in the lot at ************************************************** on June 29th, 2024- Iowa Plate DTN158. I used the ** code to fill out my payment information, but never received a confirmation. Thinking the payment did not go through I filled out the information again & this time received a confirmation. However, my credit card was charged twice for $15.99. I contacted the customer service number ************, which was on the confirmation email, when the charges were still "pending". I was told one charge would drop off (it did not) and to dispute it with Amex (which I have done). The fact customer service offered no real resolution and said "dispute it with your credit card company" is simply stunning. The company website talks about "enhanced user experience" and "advanced technology" using all their license plate scanners, but how does the system not recognize that submitting 2 payments for the exact same license plate, in the exact same lot, within less than 5min of each other might be an error?! I find it hard to believe this isn't willful ignorance knowing most people won't notice, or won't fight for what is right.Business Response

I received a parking violation #*************** from this company on 6/23/24. On the ticket it says I can dispute the violation within 7 days, and that I should receive a response via email. I disputed the violation on 6/25/24, and received confirmation that my submission went through. The ticket also says that if you pay the $75 fee within 7 days, you will receive a $15 discount. Well it is now day 6, and I have reached out via the "Contact Us" tab on their website a second time, and still have no word of the status of my dispute. My concern and complaint is that I believe this company is purposely waiting beyond the 7 day $15 discount window to respond to my dispute claim, in an attempt to create a scenario where I pay the $60 before the discount period expires without ever knowing if my dispute is going to be honored or not. You can't offer a 7 day discount period if you're not capable or willing to respond to dispute claims within that same 7 day period. If the company waits beyond 7 days to respond to the dispute, and denies it, then I have no choice but to now pay the full amount instead of the discounted amount I could have paid if I had received a response to my dispute within the first 7 days. That's not an acceptable business practice.Business Response
Date: 07/03/2024
We apologize for the delay but our disputes are all responded to within a two week period. The early pay discount applies to those who pay their violations within the first 7 days of receiving a violation. If a customer chooses to submit a dispute instead there is no guarantee that dispute will be resolved within the first 7 days. Your violation was upheld do to there being no parking session on file. Volleyball participants should be made aware and follow the validation process.Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: It has been two weeks since I submitted my dispute for the violation, and I still have not received a response from the company. They responded to my BBB complaint stating that all disputes are responded to within a two week period. In my case that has not been true. I have checked my email daily including junk folders, and have received no response as of yet. I still firmly believe that this company makes a habit of purposely delaying responses to disputes, so the average person will feel pressured into paying the violation within the first 7 days at a slightly lower fee, while they wait for a response from their dispute. When that person doesn't receive a response by day 6, they feel pressured to pay the $60 out of fear that they may have to pay $75 if the dispute is denied. If you're going to offer a 7 day early pay discount, then you absolutely need to guarantee a response to disputes within those same 7 days. Your inadequate signage, your policies, your deceitful and predatory practices, and entire business model are deplorable. I feel sad for anyone that works for this company or has the unfortunate luck of having any dealings with this company. They are the worst of the worst, and all the countless complaints and negative reviews all over the internet confirm this.
Sincerely,

*************** you are correct you were not notified through email but through your BBB complaint that your violation was upheld and the reason why it was upheld. We here at *** try to process disputes as quickly as possible but we are a large venue serving hundreds to thousands of customers daily. Disputes are responded to in order that they come in. Our early pay discount is a curtesy we choose to provide. We cannot guarantee a response within that 7 day window. Complaint: 21920507
I am rejecting this response because: SPPlus Parking has not followed their own policy of responding to violation disputes within two weeks, as they stated in their response to my BBB complaint. It has now been 23 days since I submitted my violation dispute, and they still have not emailed back a response. They only responded to my BBB complaint, meaning that I had to file a complaint with the BBB just to receive a response from this company. They also have not responded at all to my friend who also received a violation that same evening, and also filed a dispute 24 days ago. They have also refused to acknowledge that there is no sign posted anywhere in this gravel lot that states a parking fee amount. There is only a sign with a ** code on it. A clear parking fee amount needs to be clearly visible to anyone pulling into this lot, so they can decide if they really want to park here or not. The ** code payment model does not allow for anyone that *** not have a smart phone, or *** not have payment methods setup on their phone, or *** not have a phone with them, or *** have a dead battery. They have also refused to acknowledge that police were actively directing all traffic into this lot at the time due to a concert being held nearby. I was not there for a concert, but was forced into this lot regardless, and had no other options of where to park. I was informed that the business I was visiting had free parking, but when I arrived, the police directed me into this large gravel lot with many others. Not one parking attendant said anything about making sure you scan the ** code and pay the unknown fee or risk a ticket. I filed a dispute promptly, and asked for a one time forgiveness based on these circumstances. I did not receive a response to my dispute, and have only received an unsatisfactory response due to my filing a BBB complaint. ************ has purposely setup their business model in a predatory and opaque manner to take advantage of unsuspecting parkers, and then greedily makes matters worse by assigning outrageous $75 fines. Then when you try to reason with them based on circumstances, they do not respond. And if you don't pay, they threaten to send it to collections, and will tow or boot your vehicle if you ever find yourself in one of their many lots in the future. Companies like this are the scummiest of scum. Stay away!
Sincerely,
