Hello,
Plese reiterate that we have not been collecting on any previous payday loan since 2015. We are required to have record retention for any payday loan customers when we were operating that side of the business. Additionally, this said person has not contacted our office to eliminate whether or not they have ever had a previous payday loan therefore we may not even have any business with them. Please advise them to contact our office to FTC.

I received a call from CM Service today claiming I owe EZ Corp for a payday loan from 2012. They said the loan was 640 but now over $4000. I have taken a loan with this company so I agreed to a settled of *******. I paid $200. But I have not signed the receipt. They threatened a lawsuit, had the last four of my ssn, my address, etc. they left a message on my phone as follows: Hi , this message is for ************************* . My name is ***************************** and I'm contacting you in reference to a complaint that has been forwarded to my office ****** . We do have some questions regarding yourself as well as a property located on the road to address these concerns and discuss the pending action being filed against you . Will need you to call ********************* and reference your case number 1 0 6- 0 8 2 1 failure to contact the firm before the close of business today will leave us no choice , but to assume noncompliance on your behalf , and proceeded with the depending action without your cons. I was called today 12/28/23 from the phone number ************** to inform me that EZCORP payday loans wants to take me to court over **** dollars of a payday loan that I never have taken out. No idea who they are or why they are trying to contact me about this, but I have never taken a payday loan. They offered me 0 proof or evidence of any charges or invoices of the original loan. I am seeking to report this as I will not be held responsible for a loan Ive never taken out. I saw they also were sued in 2015 for predatory lending practices, but I still remain with my statement that *** never taken a loan with them before. Please help me with finding out whats going on so if they do end up taking me to court as they threatened, I can be more informed. The mediator also stated *** had letters sent to my previous 4 addresses, but never once have I ever seen any form of contact or notice of this. I've been receiving many calls from a ************. They have contacted my employer and family members as well. I believe they started by claiming to be from a company called vanguard and premier in previous voicemails, but when I spoke on the phone with them, they said they were one main mediation group calling on behalf of ezpay/ezmoney/ezcorp. They stated a loan had become delinquent in 2018 and that if I paid them $900+, they wouldn't garnish wages. They stated the garnishment would be for much more, several thousand. Later in the call the amount changed to around $500 to pay it off. I've never taken out any loans with this company. My credit report shows that no payments have ever been made late with any loans I've taken out. I asked several times for a method to verify that the call was legitimate, but the lady said there was no way to verify it, that their company does not have a website and nothing would come up if I searched for it. They attempted to claim that my "wife" may have taken the loan and that I'm responsible for it. But when I told them I've been divorced since 2013, she said the loan was taken out well before ************************************ 2018, which makes no sense. I'm a single father with full custody of my 3 kids that cares about my credit score. I was almost scared into paying it, until I found numerous online reports of people going through a similar issue. These phone calls need to stop or atleast provide some proof of their legitimacy.Business Response

I am getting repeated phone calls from **********. They say they are trying to collect from a debt in 2012 and they are suing me in court for fraud. They have suggest ***** get an attorney. I received a voicemail 12/21 stating there was a legal matter against me and that I needed to call if I wanted this to be resolved. Several of my family members received the except same call from the exact same number. I called the number and talked to a lady who said her company was hired by Ez Corp/ ez money. She said I took a loan out in 2012/2013 and did not pay it back. I did it on purpose and I was being charged with deception and fraud against a legal binding contract. I was freaking out, crying and asking questions. They transferred me to a different department which could answer the questions. They said they would be filing papers tomorrow with the court and I would be served next week. I was told this would go on my credit, check systems and have a judgement against me. I paid the money to avoid all of this. Now I am second guessing everything and wondering if this is even legit. The emails that I received were from strategic mediation services located in Georgia. I have tried to find this company online and I cant. I have emails from them with proof of payment along with an account number. I am wanting to know if this is legit or if I need to dispute the charge.Business Response

On 12/20/2023 I received a phone call stating that they have been trying to reach me for a long time regarding a debt. I have no recollection of the debt and was assured it was mine and I had a court date today at 1pm and if I didnt not pay it before court I was going to have a felony warrant issued. I panicked, Im a single mom and would be fired from job and loose my housing if this was true. Thai debt was from several years ago and when I asked about the statute of limitations I was told that because of the amount that the statute of limitations didnt apply. I asked for the documents from any of the courts and was told they didnt have them because the court time hadnt happened yet. All of this was told to me after I had paid the amount they requested. I feel like I might have been lied to and threatened with a legal action that was not true.Business Response

Attached is the email the company sent me while they were on the phone with me. While on the phone, they stated they could not provide any other details except this email to verify the debt, but that EzCorp has started legal action and it has to be paid immediately in order to prevent being served this week. I can find no record of the collection company, Strategic Mediation Services, anywhere. Nor do I believe that this is a real collectible debt. From what I can find online EzCorp has been linked to many scams and this feels like a scam. I have not been able to reach EzCorp and wish to have EzCorp contact me so I can determine if my identity has been compromised or if this is in fact a scam.Business Response

On, today, 12/19/23, I received a call stating I had pending criminal charges for not repaying a cash loan place through ******* EZ Money. Being the holiday season, I'm very stressed and nearly fell for it until they sent me DocuSign documents that didn't have my correct information on it. She. I asked for the loan number info and or bank they said it would be best to just take it to court, I said yes it will and they hung up quickly. They said I owed $956.38. Received a call from an individual claiming to be from mediation company, calling on behalf of EZCorp/EZ Pay, in regard to a supposed payday loan. The individual stated the loan was for $800 back in 2015 and that payment was made and the check was returned by my bank and now I owe over $2000.00. He had the last 4 of my social security number, where I banked, place of employment, but had an address of somewhere I've never lived. He threatened me with garnishment. I explained I do not owe any payday loans and haven't for years. He was rude and hateful. He told me I'd have to prove I don't owe the money. I told him to go ahead and *** me and he said they won't *** you, they'll garnish your wages. I don't owe EZ CORP OR EZ PAY any money.Business Response
