I had an ancestry account and put it on pause because while I seriously thought about renewing membership since they increased the amount for 6 months. I logged into my ancestry account a day before they were due to bill and cancelled my membership and received a pop up notice stating "we're sorry to see you go" The next day I check my bank account and saw that they charged me $119. I immediately called and had a wait time of over 17 minutes before someone came on the line. I explained the issue to customer service and was told that I could not get a refund if I didn't receive a confirmation to my listed email. I said it was not my fault that their system did not send me an email. They adamantly refused to refund my money. So now I have to wait 6 months before I cancel this membership. I will be sure to cancel one month in advance and make sure they send me an email otherwise I will once again file a complaint about their shoddy business practices!

They continued to charge me after I canceled my membership (and I have an email confirmation for the cancelation). They tried to tell me that I had two different accounts because "I had typed my email address in wrong when I first signed up and that one was connected to the payment". Mind you I've been getting all the emails from them the entire time I had the membership. So they were not planning to refund me for the months after the cancelation until I asked to speak to a manager. This is a total scam, I will never sign up for it again.

I've been experiencing money issues (long story) and I was cancelling everything that was automatically coming out of my bank account. When I tried to cancel Ancestry.com, the website told me they would charge me $25 to cancel. WTF? In the "why are you cancelling" text box, I explained that my checking account was overdrawn and I had to cut back on expenses. After that, it asked me again if I want to cancel. It assured me I was paid up until a few weeks from now. I checked the "Yes" box, and they immediately charged my bank $25 (the one I just told them was overdrawn). It didn't tell me they would charge me $25 immediately. I assumed it would be when my subscription ran out.

If I could give zero stars I would. My husband purchased a dna kit plus traits and the all access membership for me as a Christmas present. Once my dna results were in I was underwhelmed at the information provided. We had bought our daughter 23&me a few years back and while we were very pleased with hers we wanted to compare the two companies. I also realized that I wasnt able to access records the way I should since he had bought me the all access membership. After hours going back and forth via text on their website and waiting for a actual human to speak to they told me that 1 they couldnt speak to me bc I wasnt the one who made the purchase (despite MY dna being in their system not my husband) and 2 they wouldnt be able to transfer the membership that was automatically given to my husband when he placed the order, unbeknownst to him. (Despite one representative named *** telling me it wasnt a hard fix they just couldnt fix it for me they had to speak to my husband to make the change.) Had he known that he couldnt gift the membership he would not have spent the additional $80 on it. The customer support is beyond poor. The supervisor I spoke with was rude and annoyed that she had to speak to me after she told the support person she couldnt help ****** insisted I speak with her. The supervisor proved she could care less by her tone and screaming over me I asked to speak to her supervisor and wouldnt you know she supposedly doesnt have a supervisor- which is either bs or it is why she nor her subordinates have no accountability for their performance. We are out $80 (because my husband doesnt want the membership, he purchased it for me) and left disappointed with the entire product from ancestry. If youre wondering if you should go with ancestry or 23&me - choose the latter; you wont be disappointed. Ancestry will steal your money if you arent careful and they certainly dont care about the people buying their products keeping them in business.

Intentionally confusing cancellation pages with tiny print. Fortunately I can navigate copious amount of text and read very small print and click through two confirmation pages, but the intent of requiring customers to go through this is clear. Another subscription service nickel and diming people who don't want their service. How is this ok?

This is a review of our experience with Ancestry. Initially, everything seemed to be good. However, after a few months, I was no longer able to sign in, and I'v locked out for 8 months now without any help from Ancestry. Despite receiving only automated responses, I tried everything and followed all the steps, but I ultimately gave up. From my short time with Ancestry, Unfortunately, my wife and sister is also experiencing the same issue and has received no assistance from the company. So its not just me. It is 3 of us.We strongly advise against using Ancestry due to the lack of access to your information and the absence of adequate assistance to retrieve it. This is a concerning and frightening situation to be in. It is important to choose another reliable service that can provide the necessary support to access and protect your personal information. It is not worth investing your hard-earned money in a service that only results in being locked out. We have had 100% success with 23&Me. It looks like that 23&Me works much better, they have basiclly the same info as Ancestry.

How can you trust a site that takes your DNA, "analyzes" it and sends you an email that says your analysis is finished all while telling you (FROM A LINK ON YOUR EMAIL!!!!!) you are unauthorized to review your results. The support is non-existent. Please avoid this company.

For Christmas of 2022 my sister wanted a DNA kit from Ancestry. I got her the best one available for $150 (it was on sale) Upon purchasing this kit they tell you to make an account, but they NEVER tell you that theyre also signing you up for a membership (which is $119). There wasnt a warning about getting billed, no notification that they were signing you up too, nothing. Signing someone up for a paid membership against their knowledge is shady business practices.

They start auto charging you after the free trial, and they don't inform you every time your membership renews, they will just charge you without saying anything. Found out my mom was being charged for months over $200 and you would never even know it because they do it stealthily without saying anything. Extremely sleazy business and I will neither use them nor recommend them EVER.

I signed up for a free trial and thought I had canceled it very quickly afterward. In fact, I seemed to have two accounts and spoke to someone about a year ago about this. Today, I noticed that I have been charged more than $600 over the past 11 months. I have never used this service past the trial period. All I really did was get the Ancestry DNA kit. That's all I wanted. It never dawned on me that my PayPal was being billed a hundred dollars every three months and more than $200 initially. Who does business like this? Shame on this company. I can't believe it! $600????? Surely they can see that I have not used the service, but they won't even consider refunding any of this money to me, even the $99.95 that just withdrew yesterday.
