Awful. Customer service is horrible, and they're constantly messing with balances taking money away and when I call, I get this jib jab fast talk dancing around with every excuse on the planet and their option fees are extremely high.

In another situation, I was in the money on a call option, and it was ready to exercise on Friday and at roughly 4:45 pm, they auto liquidated the trade and lost me over $2300,00, instead of letting it exercise and me having the ability to trade myself on Monday. If it put me into a call, one, they should have informed me and two, then I should have had the ability to cover or sell on Monday and was never given the chance. They're always quick to inform me when I have a other call issues but when the table it turned, they read this generic message that it's up the client to manually manage their platform. They also indicated, I should have called them to let them know I was actively watching my screen, so somehow, I was supposed to know and manually calculate on my own to somehow know that I would have been in an option call had they allowed my option to exercise, hmmm.

The worst firm ever. Horrible customer service, 1 hour hold times, no email service. Tried to move account aver to robinhood, etrade rejected the transfer 4 times.

BEST PLATFORM FOR STOCK TRADING BUT WORST WITH MONEY. THEY LIE. THEY PLACE HOLDS WHEN YOU DO NOT KNOW. THEY PUT RESTRICTIONS ON YOUR ACCOUNT.

ETrade is probably the most unreputable brokerage firm in the entire United States.
These people have no morals whatsoever.
I had Treasury Fund holdings with them. They liquidated them and moved them into their 0% Interest paying bank without telling me. Completely ripped me off.
I only happened to stumble upon what they had done many weeks later. Because there was zero correspondence spelling it.

      This company is morally devoid.

      My husband died April 2023.

Starting in May 2023, my daughter contacted E*Trade for the purpose of retitling the account that was originally in the name of my husband & myself, and is now in my name alone. That in itself took some
      doing to get accomplished.

Following retitling, we requested a full account transfer of assets (12 mutual funds + cash = 6 figures) be delivered to an outside firm. E*Trade acknowledged they were processing “the request”, but evidently that did not mean they were actually processing “the transfer of assets”.

There have been many excuses made (by numerous E*Trade reps) as to why the transfer of assets couldn't be accomplished. Much of the time the reason given was due to the recent E*Trade “marriage” with Morgan Stanley. We were led to believe the merger was recent, but I thought I recently read something that the merger actually occurred in the year 2020.

There supposedly have been “research requests” submitted to supervisors to determine just why the transfer couldn't be accomplished. We have been assured that we would receive a callback in a certain number of days with an explanation. Never did we receive a call with an explanation.

The assets are mine & I have plans (have had plans) for many months for the use of those assets outside the purview of E*Trade/Morgan Stanley. I can't help wonder if I've experienced a financial loss just because of E*Trade/Morgan Stanley's unwillingness to release my assets.

Should be able to give 0 stars.

Opened account and transferred money in. No problem taking money. That is the end of not having problem with ETrade.

My account was placed on restriction. After a couple of calls, I determined this is not worth that hassle. I told them to put the money back into the account that they had no problem taking money from. I was told they couldn't do that.

Thankfully it was a small amount. Lesson learned. They need the money and stocks more than I do.

I recently discovered that E-Trade had restricted access to my account. On Monday October 23, 2023 I called E-Trade for clarification. I spoke with an E-Trade customer service representative named Brook. Brook refused to answer any questions regarding the restrictions on my account and would only respond by stating that, “to proceed any further you must take a selfie while holding your driver’s license and upload it to E-Trade”. This image would be in addition to the driver’s license that I had provided a just few weeks prior which meets the standards of the Department of Homeland Security’s Real I-D act of 2005. Book refused to tell me the extent of the restrictions nor the nature of the alleged “unusual activity” and re-stated that she could not proceed any further, nor until I had uploaded the selfie My account remains blocked and E-Trade will not tell me why.
I believe E-Trade’s claim of “unusual recent activity” on my account to be patently false. The last transaction on my account was a stock purchase almost 2 years ago (2/22/22). I am a 72 year old senior citizen and I have neither a smart phone nor a working camera needed to accommodate this unusual request (selfie). The actions I am being required to perform, to have access to an account I have had for over 6 years, represents an undue and unreasonable burden. At this juncture I wish only to liquidate my holdings, close my account with E-Trade, and transfer all of my funds to my Wells Fargo accounts.

I have had a custodial account for my daughter for years. Shortly after she turned 18 I was barred from trading her account. Even with her on the phone we were not allowed to even exit trades. Basically the account is in limbo. Now I she needs to open a new account and then transfer over from the existing account. No warnings, no alerts, no emails, nothing! Find another brokerage account. You have been warned

E*Trade appears to be standing behind its wall of customer service representatives, rather than fix a problem.
In May 2023 I requested E*TRADE transfer VESTED stock units from an Employee Plan account to Charles Schwab. E*TRADE transferred the holdings to my E*TRADE individual brokerage account, which should have made them completely unrestricted, UNCOVERED shares. E*TRADE mistakenly sent these shares to Schwab as COVERED shares. Why is that a problem? Schwab can’t correct the GROSSLY incorrect cost basis that E*TRADE sent - $0.03 per share.
Per conversations I’ve had with three different customer service reps after being on hold literally for hours, E*TRADE will not send the correct cost basis to Schwab. PER IRS RULES, Schwab can’t accept the cost basis info I obtained from the E*TRADE website.
All that is required is a simple letter/email from E*TRADE to me stating that the shares transferred to Schwab were UNCOVERED. Based on that e-mail, I can send the correct cost basis info to Schwab. I am fully aware I can correct the cost basis info on my tax forms every time I sell some shares. But, why should I have to do that? Why can’t E*Trade fix the mistake?
