After being with carfax for 6 years we decided to go with a different provider. Once we canceled Carfax said we owed them $5000. In December carfax is saying I ran over a 100 reports, but in the previous 11 months I averaged 10 reports pulled. I have spent thousands on reports and advertising with carfax and this is the appreciation I get. I would strongly suggest going with AUTOCHECK or anyone else. RUN don’t walk away.

The report we purchased from CARFAX regarding a vehicle we were interested in buying did not have the most current service information on it. And because of that, we apparently bought a LEMON as we are now up to $3,000+ in repairs since the purchase. We bought a vehicle on November 19, 2022. Up until this date, the CARFAX Report showed that there were no major issues with the vehicle and preventative maintenance, i.e. oil changes, etc. had been performed on a regular basis. Soon after we drove the car home, we started having problems with it. First, the alternator went out, then the air conditioner stopped working, and now we are waiting on an expensive part to arrive at the repair shop so that another issue can be fixed. After we started having the problems, we went back and purchased another CARFAX report. On this 2nd report, it showed that the dealership where we had purchased the vehicle had input that the engine to the vehicle had been replaced. They did not report this until 10 days after the vehicle had been driven home. I contacted CARFAX about this and asked them if this was a violation of their policy for a service to be reported so far after the fact. In short, they said they did not have any specific regulations as to when information has to be reported to them. We would not have purchased this vehicle had we known that the engine had been replaced. So, my opinion is that purchasing a CARFAX Report is a total WASTE OF TIME!!! If CARFAX has no regulations or policies that apply to the reporting agencies as to when any type of issues or service must be reported, then what good is the report. I am extremely disappointed! I always had the belief that CARFAX would have the most up-to-date and correct information. However, I have learned, in a very costly manner, that they DO NOT!!!

In August 2022 I had my 2007 Toyota 4Runner professionally painted. This was done due to age and fading. Along the way there were some plastic clips, rubber seals and other type items that also due to age needed to be replaced for the longevity of the vehicle. Now I have a damage event report on my 4Runner. I have submitted a report to Carfax including a detailed list of parts and work that was done on my car with a statement and before and after pictures with the statement from the shop that did the work that this was not due to a damage event via an accident, a weather event debris, hitting my car, my car hitting a tree or a street sign. CARFAX refuses to provide me with any information about this report other than exist.. this is the worst customer service I have ever received in my life. And apparently CARFAX is God when it comes to car information being put out. They refused to tell me other than an anonymous source reported this information to them. They will not tell me specifically what is in said report other than that they don’t really have a report it’s just data that was input into their system from their anonymous source. What? Yes, that’s what they told me via email. Only email you cannot speak to a human being. I bet there are several people who have no idea they have done upgrades to their vehicle and the Almighty CARFAX now has a report against their vehicles value saying there was a damage event when there was no such occurrence. I have this report on my vehicle that is complete incorrect information with those who put it out there refusing my documentation that I have provided multiple times showing there was no incident accident occurrence whatever they wanna call it it was simply old the paint was worn and faded, as well as a few plastic and rubber parts rubber parts. Whoever reads this if you have an old car and get it repainted look out you’re going to get a Carfax report saying there was a damage event when there was not.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm trying to sell my truck, which is only 3 years old and less than 40k miles, and somehow CARFAX put incorrect information on my truck's record that it's over 110k miles, so the value plummeted. All of the official paperwork is correct, I sent in the official motor vehicle record to get them to fix it. They did, and then put it back on the record with a different date, claiming they received new title information that it was at 110k - THERE IS NO NEW INFORMATION. The record I sent them was for the title with the correct mileage, now I've been dealing with this problem for WEEKS, and evidently it's going to continue. This is infuriating.

I ordered a report. They charged me right away from my credit card. Never received the report. I asked for a refund. Got an email to say it will take 3to5 business days. Up to now it has been 2and a half months . No refund. Please be careful.

When I signed the carfax agreement on August of 2022 it was a clean title in December of 2022 found out that it was a salvage title now carfax is procrastinating on following up with their buy back guarantee

I feel it necessary to point out that today Carfax admitted to me via email that they post auto data to a vehicle's record with zero corroborating evidence or verification. They will do so just because a business paid them to report to them, That is all. I attempted to dispute said record, which just says "damage", with no further details. This event completely is impossible to have occurred because the vehicle was in my driveway for several months (during this alleged record occurrence) and never moved, They were zero help nor would say who reported this record. They refused to inform me even who made the record so I could obtain information on my own property! just said "Any change in the condition of the vehicle, such as reconditioning work, customization, rust repair, etc., may come to CARFAX as a damage report.
If there was any type of work performed or if you had the vehicle inspected on/around that time, including for any change that could be misinterpreted as damage, please provide the related estimate or final repair bill for review.
      "
How do I prove this never happened when I don't even know what happened!? It never moved! If something happened, I need to know!? Did someone steal my vehicle vin and using it elsewhere?

When selling my car. I received a false carfax report. The report indicated that my vehicle was in a major accident and resulted in devaluation of my car. I had never been in an accident. Carfax did research it and eventually took it off the report, but I had already sold the car in fear that I would continue to loose value.

Carfax provides incorrect and not easily changed vehicle history reports. When an error is noted they make it almost impossible to remove the report and suggest they are immune to damages for misreporting.
Carfax suggests the purchaser of their report has agreed to accept incomplete and possible inaccurate information. The challenge is that these reports are purchased without owners consent and can be used to harm the vehicles owner. Where is the vehicle owners right to know whom/why a report is being provided by Carfax ??
There is also no way to opt-in or opt-put of this reporting unlike other privacy requirements afforded when pulling credit reports, medical reports, etc.
Carfax assumes there is a lack of privacy required since they don’t provide owners name, yet infringe upon the owner directly when they are incorrect and put harm directly onto anyone with inaccurate information contained in their reports.
Carfax reports should be tracked, report pulls, and update repaired info quickly, or report pulled from any use when disputed by actual owner until resolved.
