Remarkably inhumane billing practices.
I received services from Thriveworks for 1.5 years. Excellent therapist. Horrific administrative support and unethical billing practices.
In my time with my therapist I never received a statement, invoice, notice of claims being filed or processed. Now there is currently a pending $8,000 insurance balance with them (meaning they haven't been paid by my insurance company yet) and they have failed to communicate any outstanding claims, rejected claims or patient balances. Failing to notify patients that claims are being held up, not being processed, while accruing a steep balance is making me lose my mind. Therapeutic practices have an ethical responsibility to clients to avoid doing harm - for all points of care - including supporting and assisting them through financial decisions. The writing is on the wall, I know based on previous reviews and seeking information that these claims will ultimately be rejected and I will be responsible.
Whatever tool that their billing department uses to verify benefits (something that yes, does not guarantee financial coverage but why offer it as a service if the tool being used is so grossly inaccurate?). As a medical provider myself, I ensure that ALL my patients understand exactly what their fees will be after claims are processed. It's not that hard to figure out on the front end and avoid some of this fall out. Telling prospective clients that their insurance benefits will cover services when this is NOT the case is wildly unethical. It's not that hard to provide ethical care. They will lose money and do harm to people in the process. Revolting.Thriveworks Administrative Services, LLC

Hi Lauren, this is the complete opposite of the experience we want anyone to have at Thriveworks. It's our goal to make sure every client has a positive experience at our practice and the experience you've described with billing sounds really frustrating. It’s clear that we really fell short. We'd like to hear more about what happened. Would you consider reaching out to ***********************?Review fromAnne M

I am being charged for late cancellation fees in error. I have called to get these removed from my account and I’m unable to get a resolution. I keep being told they need to talk to the director and they would personally follow-up, but there is never a call back. I’m getting invoices emailed to me for different amounts. I’m definitely getting the runaround.Thriveworks Administrative Services, LLC

Hi Anne. We are so sorry to read your review! We know that payments are an important topic so we work to over-communicate our fees and reiterate them many times during our initial onboarding process (by phone when scheduling, by email immediately after scheduling, in our paperwork that's reviewed with each client during their first session, and the information is featured prominently on our website). We don't want anyone to have any surprises, ever. That being said, we'd like to see if there is anything we can do to make your situation better. Would you be willing to email us at ***********************?Thriveworks Administrative Services, LLC

I have been working with a therapist through Thriveworks since they transferred to that company (from ********, another corporate therapy/psych co), at the end of June. I was ensured by Thriveworks that my insurance was processing and not to worry that the EOB letters from **** were indicating that the claims were not covered. I called Thriveworks at the end of July and again in August; both times I was assured that it was a technicality, not to worry the claims would be processed.
I most recently sent an email to my therapist to check and make sure that this was in fact processing, and I have now been told that apparently the insurance I have is not ‘in network’ for Thriveworks, and therefore I am to be held liable for all the (6) sessions that were scheduled under the pretense that they were covered by my insurance ($800).
I tried repeatedly to make sure there was certainty my insurance would cover the sessions before continuing, since I knew I was not able to afford them myself. Can you help direct me to what the best course of action is for handling this? I would much prefer working with an individual therapist than with a large corporate company, but I was attempting to navigate the road dictated by insurance.Thriveworks Administrative Services, LLC

Hello everyone leaving bad reviews for the bbb, this is not what thriveworks wants your experience to be like, however, they continue to screw ppl out of money. And whoever is trying to follow up these reviews, please spare everyone out there and more importantly spare me. Someone reached out to me on a previous review I left, to go along with their other terrible reviews, I sent them proof my dad was in icu, and they still charged me. Oh yeah, and my dad just passed away. Maybe they want his death certificate now. This company is horrendous and despicable. Ppl are court ordered to come here and that's how they make money. If you are able to go somewhere else, don't give this company money. They're legal organized crime.Thriveworks Administrative Services, LLC

Today I will tell the story of how thriveworks stole $270 from me. One year ago I was struggling and needed help, I reached out to thriveworks to seek treatment. At first things were good until a scheduled appointment with a new psychiatrist on July 18th 2022 at 3:00pm. I entered the zoom waiting room at 3:00 and stayed inside until 3:40pm. The provider did not show up to the appointment. I received no calls, texts or emails from thriveworks about the provider being late. I left the zoom call at 3:40pm and called thriveworks customer support to inform them the provider never showed up like I had done previously when a provider did not show up for a scheduled appointment.
Next thing I know thriveworks charged a $100 fee to my credit card. I called thriveworks customer support to inquire about the charge and they informed me it was a no show fee. According to them the provider did show up at 3:45pm to an appointment that was scheduled at 3:00pm. They refused to reverse the charge. I called several times requesting to speak with a supervisor to discuss the issue and they refused to transfer me to a supervisor. They kept saying none were available. When I asked them to schedule a time for me to speak with a supervisor they took my information and I never heard from them. After trying for days I decided to close my account and file a credit card chargeback. I won the chargeback and got back my $100.
A year later out of the blue I see a $270 charge on my credit card out of the blue. There was no statement sent or any communication from thriveworks before the charges appeared on my credit card. I filed a second credit card chargeback, the second one I have ever filed, and thriveworks fought it.
I hope my tale is a warning for anyone who tries to use thriveworks. Thriveworks is a shark in the field of mental health services. Thriveworks looks for the opportunity to charge their patients junk fees instead of helping their patients.Thriveworks Administrative Services, LLC

I have called numerous times over 6 months to correct a billing issue. Not only has most of the staff been rude (some were very helpful), but they literally didn’t do their job. I have been told they need to talk to insurance and a supervisor for 6 months now and my bill is just getting bigger. No idea what’s taking forever to correct numerous billing mistakes. Providers NPI numbers don’t just randomly change and become out of network. They refuse to acknowledge they messed and won’t fix it. I will continue to call weekly until I get a resolution that isn’t “oh we need to talk to insurance”. I would also like to add that our emails are now getting ignored and for months they refused to give me a full billing statement every time I asked for it. The only decent worker I got finally gave me one after six months. This is ridiculous treatment and their team cannot adequately do their job and has probably cost many other customers thousands of dollars.Thriveworks Administrative Services, LLC

Horrible. This place shouldn’t run as a business complete scam!! I have been reading the reviews and the same experience happened to me! First after one sesssion they tell me my insurance doesn’t cover this so I’m responsible but called my insurance company and we called Thriveworks on three way saying these charges aren’t accurate I am covered. They claimed to correct error. Months later I get a bill for almost 1000. Now They charged me $99 for a charge on Jan claiming I didn’t show for an appt which is false. I tried to email and was on hold forever also asked for a call back from automated system NO RESPONSE. Thriveworks you will be hearing from my lawyer!Thriveworks Administrative Services, LLC

Along with the terrible therapists/psychologists working there, I was charged full price despite giving them my insurance information through the phone; I was not billed via insurance. I was told I wasn’t going to be charged for any of the services. A month or so later, I get an $286 charge. I’m unemployed and can’t pay, and I do not wanna pay another overdraft fee. I cancelled my services with them. I should not be paying full prices for services I cancelledThriveworks Administrative Services, LLC

When I Spoke with a young lady by the name of a Shenika ***** she was very rude rushing me off the phone and I can hear her laughing with a woman in the background of my call as if my problem was funny. I was very turned off by this gesture and I will never work with them again. I work in a doctors office so I refer most my patients to this company but after dealing with her I’ll never do so again. Please fix this issue or you guys will loose so many clients we referThriveworks Administrative Services, LLC
