I deposited a large amount of money at NFCU after the sale of my home and was informed that it would be held for 3 days. Then I received an email telling me the credit union had put a 5 day hold on my monies because "based on confidential information they suspected the financial institution the check was written from was unable to pay the check". I contacted the title company who wrote the check and they could not understand why such a remark would be made about their company. Subsequently, I figured the 5 days from the deposit date and determined monies were to be released on Friday May 17. And having relied on that statement, I wrote two checks which were scheduled to clear on that fifth day, May 17 only to learn from a representative of NFCU that the statement was misleading because it didn't take into consideration that if the deposit was made on a weekend the 5 days didn't really start ticking until Tuesday not Monday as stated 'from the day of DEPOSIT'. Well, if it's 5 business days, and they're open for business on Saturday, isn't that a business day? Well great, now my checks are going to bounce when I in good faith trusted that all would be ok when I wrote them I called the service center and the agent ******* only told me there was nothing that could be done and obviously speaking to a supervisor would not accomplish anything different, then proceeded to tell me that if there was nothing more, she was going to end the call. And hung up!Wow, just what a 70 year old individual needed. All I was asking for was some help. and instead I was left wishing I'd never opened an account with NFCU. I no longer trust NFCU. They treat their customers with such little regard, write frightening cryptic messages, make unclear/confusing directives, and provide poor customer service. My experience with NFCU has been quite unpleasant.

Horrible!! I am at a loss. Don't do business wth them. Passed from one person to another , no one can help ,and apparently the corporate headquarters doesn't have phones since they can't give you a phone number. We deposited a very large check at the branch in person, told funds would be available 2 days later. Well that is not true, they won't release it for 5 days now for " security reasons", but wouldn't tell me what those reasons were. The check came from a well respected attorney in the ******* area, surely you would think the money would be there. This has put us in a very bad postion with a purchase we made based on the lies. I told the supervisor. I know we are not a million dollar client since that is all they care about, and the response about releasing funds 1 DAY EARLY! was just that they would not do it. I even called the bank and told them we wanted our check back..the answer it was sent to his bank but they can't tell us if it has cleared- so CALL THE OTHER BANK!!! Our money is being held hostage. Won't give you your money and won't give you your check back. What a crock. It is an absolute crime how people are treated at this credit union, what ever happened to customer service? Theres is one star because you are not allowed to not rate. We will be closing our accounts

They hold off electronic payments and transactions until the same time then overdraw your account, bounce checks and charge you an insufficient funds fee- after that they clear your deposits. If you have multiple transactions with payments, withdrawals and deposits good luck. Choose your bank wisely. Navy fed was awesome 20 years ago. Not. No. More.

Extremely rude & Unprofessional call center no one ever knows what theyre talking about they give you generic answers to your questions which 9/10 dont even apply to the situation at hand and they make little to no effort to fix errors on their end. I was told my money would be available 7 days ago on the following Monday, Monday came and now it wont be available until Tuesday . All for a check that didnt exceed $1,000. this place is a joke

I have been a customer with ********************** for almost 10 years after leaving **** of America. I've had nothing but great experiences with them up until now. I am a 28 year old African American women who recently applied for an auto loan through Navy Federal 4 times and was denied each and every time. The reason for the denial stated that I have "bad credit" or "do not meet the credit criteria" However, I have a 730 score, excellent payment history, multiple accounts open on my credit (which they said I did not have enough open accounts so it was negative impact to why they denied me). To add insult to injury, one of their representatives without even seeing my credit report implied that I did not meet the credit requirements or had the income, which neither are true. This has been an overwhelming, stressful, and tiring situation trying to get an approval through Navy Federal to get the car I want. I'm highly considering removing all my money with them and going to a different credit union. It's extremely disappointing to feel so discriminated against with my own bank.

I was treated like a criminal, no one was willing to help me rectify my situation. STAY AWAY. Navy Fed does not care about service members, all they care about is money. I was told to file a police report against navy fed for theft to get any "help". ***** with navy fed is uncaring and hung up on me. I will make sure everyone stays far away from navy fed until it either closes its doors, or changes its ways.

They have excepted funds and held them for over a month . This is the biggest fraud of a bank I have ever seen . No one can give answers only lies over and over . I'm gonna have to retain an attorney to figure out how they can hold a deposit after it's been cleared twice . The financial impact is a horrible strain on my family. I can't believe things like this can happen at a financial institution.

$2000 taken from a joint account to pay a ********************** card that only 1 persons name was on. As a family of 4 we are left with $300 to survive the month. We agree that the owner of the credit card need to pay the credit card and that it was past due but the funds were not the credit card owners and now the person who deposited them is our of their money! They will not reverse it to give the one who deposited the money their money back. Absolutely no compassion from their very rude associates in their charge off department. They think just because you make a paycheck in the future that it is okay to have no money for food now. It's crazy to think this is how they treat their veterans and their families. We would've been okay if they gave us at least 2 weeks to pay them. That's all we needed. They refused to make any sort of agreement because they hadn't heard from me in 2 years. They may no attempts to reach out to the other person on the joint account. I even told them I was okay with them taking my entire paycheck (which in 1 month covered the ***** but they also took the other persons paycheck. Which was not OK. I will not be banking with them again and definitely don't suggest banking with them as they have no compassion. We have been banking with them for over 9 years. They've only gotten increasingly worse.

It seems to be the same thing over and over again regarding race discrimination at Navy Federal. I have been a member of NFCU for over 20 years, have always paid my car notes on time and early, credit cards on time and now my mortgage on time, yet approval for a HELOC for a home that they can certainly take away from me if I don't pay is more of a slap in the face for yet another minority. They will probably come back with what they stated in their response as an "inability to pay due to fixed income" which leads me to believe on top of being discriminated against for being a minority now ageism comes in to play. However, it took me over a month back and forth with Navy Federal to get a loan removed from my account that was never initiated by me. Yes, this year someone opened up a line of credit loan for $8000 and they approved it. I still believe that this was an inside job, but NFCU will never confess to it. This person opened a loan and transferred money to two other NFCU members and it took them 30 plus days to fix the problem, Also, when asked out of curiosity how much did this identity thief say his monthly income was it was reported as $9000 a month. So with no verification or proof that this monthly income was true or not he was approved, but a person who pays their bills on time with Navy Federal regardless of what NFCU believes to be "inability" does not sit well. I understand that NFCU is the biggest credit union in the nation, but bigger is not always better. Beware if you are a minority or a person in their 70s or above as you hold no importance to them and your money may be better served building at another credit union. There are problems and discrimination everywhere I get that, but NFCU has been called to the carpet and refuse to fix what is broken because they don't want to fix what is broke, They serve a community that looks like them and that is the bottom line period.

Navy Federal, back before 2020. was a stand-up credit union. Reps must be coming from **************** rude and disturbing. I've paid off all my bills. a credit card for $6,000 personal loan for $7,000 overdraft LOC for $1.500 paid in full. As I said in the review for *********** I got sick with a bone disease and fell back on payments, but by the ***** of God, I still paid what I own. However, spoke to Rep **** in the loan ***** who promised me all negative reporting would be removed or the account paid and closed. Never happened. I have been with this bank for over 12 years. and still get treated like s*** I'm asking the loan **** to please send me the original document showing the date my accounts became delinquent. this credit union has incorrect information still being represented on my credit report. which is wrong. when I question things I get the response: "We have verified the accounts as yours! Yes, I never said it wasn't I'm Asking for documents Where are the documents that were used to verify these accounts? What is the name of the person or ID number in your ********************** bureau company who verified these accounts? What documents did they use to verify them? Please provide me with the name of that individual, their business address, and telephone number. The credit bureaus and merchants have ignored my request to provide me with the documents that They have in the files that you used to verify the disputed accounts. There are three closed and paid-in-full accounts still being reported to the credit bureaus, well over the 10-year ***** Why are the reported dates being changed to keep this negative reporting active? I inquire the dates get pushed back. Maybe my information is mixed considering the number of bridges or breaks in the system I'm not sure but this needs to be handled this year accordingly.
