Navy federal is a fine bank to use if all you intend to do is pay bills with your checking account but they don't offer anything special or competitive to keep me banking with them anymore. Truthfully, none of their loans or financing options that i've used or looked into are so competitive that you can't find better offers elsewhere. They really don't offer anything special or anything that you can't get better at another bank. They best thing they have to offer is their customer service and ease of online banking but it's just not enough to outweigh their lack of concern for their members and lack of competitive rates and offers.
NavyFed approved my autoloan application but did not honor the 90 day guarantee rates. I hadn't signed the promissory notes because I'd already gotten my 90 day approval notice and was working with Navyfed to see how buying a car across state lines works and if direct deposit was an option before I signed for a check to be sent. After two weeks they said I had to re-apply and do another hard credit pull and then DOUBLED my interest rate. They claimed I wasn't being penalized and the decision was based off my credit report but proceeded to show me the 2 credit reports they used to make the decision the first and second application and both credit reports were exactly the same so clearly their decision to double my rate wasn't based on my credit.
NavyFed also offers little to no consumer protection. I filed a dispute after purchasing jewelry that turned out to be counterfeit. I provided proof of conversation between the merchant and I as well as contact cards for the salesmen who defrauded me and an appraisal from a jeweler proving the jewelry sold to me was fake. NavyFed still sided with the merchant and cost me thousands of dollars regardless of the proof. Navyfed has really gone downhill and doesn't seem to care about protecting it's members.

Extremely inconvenient to have a joint account with a spouse or family member. I highly recommend another banking institution if you intend on sharing accounts with someone. Even though you’re considered joint owners, only one of you “the primary” can see things like bank statements and other pertinent details. You need two separate log ins and only one person has access to all the accounts which makes zero sense. If you and the person you’re sharing with are not in the same location, best of luck. The banking representative recommended having “the primary” log into their account and print the statements or have the statements mailed in. In today’s age, this recommendation couldn’t be more outdated. They couldn’t give me a reason as the joint owner of the account for why I didn’t have access to DIGITAL bank statements other than “you’re not the primary”. NFCU’s processes and protocols are primitive; steer away if you don’t want to deal with the headache. As I said, this is extremely inconvenient and we will be moving to another banking institution.

Despite having an exceptional Credit score, I was rejected by Navy Federal Credit Union for an auto loan for not having good credit. I could only laugh at their justification. I can only assume there are other nefarious criteria they are using that were not explicitly mentioned due to a lack of transparency.

      Unfair lending practices
Our loan officers, where out of office right after requesting necessary documents during the last two weeks before closing. We reply with the documents then get asked for more documents a week before closing, the next day after the request, as we were submitting the paperwork, our loan was already denied citing they could not prove my income which the paperwork being submitted had satisfied. The week of closing I appeal the denial to submit the supporting documents.

Right now I am three days from closing with my application still not resolved. I am days away from losing my earnest deposit if I don't pull out of this offer. It is unreasonable to ask for items without having personnel to process them then ask for more and take action before receiving them. The added undue stress to this process is unfair.

I would like to say that I believe that financial institution have systematic racists qualities in the way they conduct business with clients and customers of color. I been a member since 2019 and every check I deposit is put on an extended hold. I spoke with three different representatives and received three different responses with is ridiculous. The worst experience with any banking institution.

Do Not Use Navy Federal. Accusing me of being a criminal. Holding my paychecks for 5 days to insure I'm not depositing bogus check. Really, read the dam check. It's the same company same signature same account. Called and no one can let me talk to security, not allowed. I would leave a negative if I could

Worse credit union I know they are suppose to keep my money safe not put me in a negative from money I had in my account. I was over drawn $500 December 13th, I received my money on the 12th and switched it to my cash app the same day, I explain that to them more then enough times so they had me claim fraud and then tell me I still gotta pay 500 over draft fee like you really trying to make me pay for money I took out my account a day before, now you want me pay for a overdraft fee because your computer processed slow well you can close that account because that’s money you will not be getting.

Worst banking institute I have ever dealt with. In the last month I have done 3 seperate transactions and they have not gotten one right resulting in me loosing the potential of $750.00 of interest income. Wish I'd have done my homework first and checked their reviews.I would think twice before doing business with them if I were you. My star rating would be a minus 5 if possible.

The bank saw that I was charged twice from a merchant initially disputed the charge than Friday night Saturday morning my account is overdrawn because Navy Federal changed my dispute from being resolved to a loss as a retaliation to me asking questions about the duplicate charge because the supervisor was unable to answer questions the charge happen back in October 1st it is Dec 9th they are refusing to give me my money back I am closing my account. I am done with them I been with them since the Marines 2009 when I joined that’s it I just buried my grandmother and now I just had surgery and they just took the rest of my money from me during a time of need. I have been a great customer I have paid off 10,000 loans in 3 months even paid off a car with good credit with them. I have promoted for people to get business accounts with them but I am done y’all have become horrible. I remember 2012 someone stole my card and they threatened to take my account from me for fraud back when they would give you the mini card you could put on your key chain and locked my account like I was the criminal I am done.

My credit cards were stolen, the theft spent over 22k and the bank can’t honor the fraud charges because I didn’t have a lock on my phone. They don’t honor police reports per fraud department
