I have an IRA with Navy Federal and the RMD is to be taken out on Sept 1 each year. This year (2022) they took out double the amount that was on the confirmation sheet and I noticed this on my bank statement. I contacted them and informed them. They said it was taken out by computer and manually for some reason. I had to contact my bank and arrange to have the money returned.
At years end I received the 1099-R and noticed it was not the same as the confirmation sheet. I realized that Navy Federal never returned the Federal tax amount they took out from the double withdrawal. I contacted them the same day as the 1099-R was available online. I asked to talk to whoever was in charge and was told that the people in the "back room" said there was nothing that could be done. So basically they took out more money than the confirmation was set up for.
They made two errors (taking out too much to begin with and then not replacing the entire amount when I caught the error). But despite the fact that I was the one who notice the problem both times and contacted them, they refused to rectify the problem, thus removing too much money out of my IRA by paying the Federal tax twice. It's obvious that no one ever checks to see if the amount listed on the confirmation sheet (listing exactly what will be taken out of the IRA later in the year including tax) is never checked when the actual amount is taken out to be sure it matches. Apparently they can take out whatever they want out of your IRA despite the confirmation sheet and will then tell you there's nothing they can do at the end of the year.
If you have an IRA with Navy Fed you better check every month and see what is going on because they won't. Be advised that the confirmation sheet you sign agreeing to what will be taken out has no meaning to them. Nothing can be done? That's interesting as any individual that makes a mistake on a tax return or form can always file an amended form. My guess is no one wanted to deal with it

Absolute do not use, have a vehicle loan through navy federal credit Union for over a year now, randomly and without my knowledge hiked my interest rate from 4.5 to 18%, payment from 790 to 1050 and through all this I had no knowledge of the changes as we pay from our bank account the payment each month. No mail, emails anything. Called them to find out it’s because they needed the title showing their name as the lien holder which I had the whole time and could have been resolved easy. Now I’m stuck paying 2300 extra. They wouldn’t take it off even after I explained we hadn’t recieved any information on this. Absolute scum bags who use their power to take advantage of the little guy.

This is by far the worst credit union on the planet, period! They denied me a credit card with a FICO of 700+, DTI less than 8%, 100k a year salary, perfect payment history, and none of my other credit card accounts with other credit unions exceeding 10%. There's no logical explanation for this denial, none. After being a member for 33 years I've reached to my local FOX affiliate and they're interested in doing a story on this joke of a credit union.

My Dad's retired military,& a senior at this point,on a tight retirement budget,as by the time he pays too many high bills,it leaves things tight! He's had auto pay set up in his banks so he won't forget about paying yet another bill, too many to keep track of,& had it set on days that he could trust that the bills would get paid. But instead, the Navy credit union did not release his money to his bills on the due dates cause they forgot, they said, like this is supposed to be acceptable! & on top of it,he owes more money to the bills now late when that happened & he owes the credit union a extra $35 per bill, per unsure if per day,per month on top of that.So here he had auto pay set up with them so he won't forget,it's supposed to be auto pay & automatically paid by computer,& now finds out they, the people working there, have to remember to let the payments auto pay,& they forgot! Makes no sense & cause of this,he is at least a few months behind on his mortgage,on top of other bills, thanks to them,& he had to borrow $440. + however much else, just to cover the other half of dec!Unacceptable! Still too short. He needs his money, the extra he should not of been charged from all directions, back!I thought they were to " give back" to active & retired military, not take advantage!

Never bank here. This is for the rich and elite only. They fee you to death and take your money and force pay your debt without permission, the very moment it deposits.

I’ve been a member for 40 years just went through hurricane Ian, and my wife had to have brain surgery on top of that. On their website they stated they were providing help for people affected by IAN but that is also a lie. My credit is not that great so I was going to use my car as collateral yet still cannot get approved for a loan. All they did was to put it in their system and it was disapproved in a matter of seconds. They do not want any information whatsoever true uncaring customer service. I am just going to get a prepaid card and have everything deposited to that cause I want nothing to do with this bank anymore. They are terrible when it comes to helping people don’t believe their ad because none of it is true. So I guess I’ll just have to go to a title loan company in order to get a loan. I would not recommend this credit union to anyone.

Their VA mortgage department is the worse, I heard it’s bad from multiple soldiers but I went and tried it anyway when I call them and asked about minimum score they told me they are not allowed to talk about credit score and I would have to apply and usually everyone approved for a loan I applied and was assigned to a loan officer who never got in touch with me I called her for 2 days her phone number goes straight to voice mail. I called the call center they also said she isn’t available and when I finally got to talk to her she told me she said doesn’t have to talk to everyone and couldn’t find my application, very unprofessional and fake advertisement their application process is one of the worst I will not be coming back I even closed my checking account.

Lately, Navy's service has been "hit or miss". I was not able to do my daily check of my online account. When I called, their phone system said there was a wait due to routine maintenance. When routine maintenance is done and upgraded on a regular basis, then the online system should not be down. Their customer service is also "hit or miss". I took the time to "voice my concerns". Navy needs to make note that its "active" members may take a different approach when the online system is inaccessible.
