1 starUse to be good back in the day. Now a days they have the worst experience. I tried to do HELOC. it has taken more than 6 months to even get an approval. I own my primary resident but they said the loan terms will be as a second home.....I work out of state is the reason they said they will have to put it as a second home and raise the interest rate....Before this as well when purchasing my current home it was a fiasco and took them very long to close on a house. I would never recommend them to anyone. Only reason I stuck with them is due to being with them since military bootcamp. Im leaving for another credit union that has better customer service.Review fromMatt S

1 starWhat a horrible company. I filed to open up a business account for my LLC which is an online education platform. At first, the person in the business department, who claimed his name is Robin, said that he could not find the application. I stayed on the line for 30 mins, giving him all types of info, and then he said that he found it and was denying the application., I asked him can he/ or the Navy fed's business dept let me know why my application is being denied. He responded that the Navy fed had the right to deny any business which they do not deem fit for their business. It is stated on their business website. I then proceeded to say that there are many Youtubers in the same space, who teach about finance and recommend the Navy Federal credit union. I was then told that it was their policy and they were not going to approve it. I can't believe that such an old archaic process exits in 2022. Have they not heard of discrimination? which is why most companies use AI to approve accounts online. They go off facts not personal preference.Review fromLandon C

1 starI was told on the phone yesterday that I could call today and make a wire transfer for $20k. I call today and was told that I cannot do this over the phone. So yea, NFCU is notorious for poor customer service. The supervisor wouldn't even agree to reprimand the rep that gave me the info yesterday.Review fromTo M

1 starI went to Mexico back in June 2022. on or about 6/21 I noticed a an unauthorized charge on my bank statement via the NFCU app. Upon noticing the charge I contacted NFCU customer service phone number. I spoke with a guy for about one and and a half telling him when I noticed the charge, the places I did go to (which both are on my statement, and how I don't know what went wrong and where. He put the claim in under a fraud. they gave me a credit for the amount that was charged and I thought that was it. On Aug 29 that same amount was taken out of my account and when I called the only explanation was it was denied because not enough information was provided. Now I'm super upset, not only did they take money out of my account after the 60 days I was told it takes to do the investigation buy the guy I talked to all that time didn't take any notes or put any information in the claim. I resubmitted as instructed on Sept 6, 2022. I haven't heard anything concerning my this matter so I decided to call today to check the status, I was first informed by Nia that there is no claim at all showing in the system. I asked to be transferred to supervisor because now its not making any since how a bank can take money out of someone's account after the 60 day investigation period but now they closed this one without any contact to me. I spoke with Gabrielle and now she is telling me the new claim was denied too. At this point, I no longer want to be with a bank that doesn't do the proper work to protect their customers and their hard earned money! They keep saying it was denied due to not enough info... what other info will I have access to if I was on vacation in a foreign country where most doesn't speak English. When transferred to Nichole(to close account) she was very helpful which she noticed the claim was filed incorrectly it was filed as fraud and she sated it should've been filed as dispute! Now im back at square one, it may take 60 days to do the investigation. WTHReview fromTHOMAS L

1 starPLEASE DO NOT USE THIS INSTITUTION!!!!
I have been with NFCU for years, personal and business accounts. I will be closing my accounts this week. Navy federal is, at this very moment "holding" $20K in funds deposited into our business account three (3) days after making said funds available. The funds in question are from Imagefirst, a large uniform company, the NFCU operator told us this morning that those funds were "likely to not clear". Well, I'll sure Imagefirst will disagree, and provided we have never had a returned deposit, NFCU's logic is flawed. I called NFCU a second time, the new CSR stated, "sorry, you can not cancel the deposit, it has already cleared THE CLEARING HOUSE"!!! So....which is it Navy federal? Small businesses rely on availability of funds, NFCU, you are part of the problem. Unfortunately you can not leave "0" stars, that is what NFCU rates as, just a "0".Review fromMeik D

1 starIf I could give less stars I would. This credit union went from great to terrible. I entered a fraud alert from a merchant in April and it is now showing up as a negative charge off. I was sick and in the hospital at the time of this charge. NFCU took ALL of my pay from my account and promised to give some portion back after arrangements were made to pay and did not want to review my case in any way. I am told that with arrangements none of my money would be removed and I trusted that. The very next pay they did it again and took far more money. I have requested to speak with a manager or supervisor multiple times and they have refused to allow it. No one has returned any of my calls or messages. I will not be using this bank again in the future. Sad thing is...I have brought them much of my families business. They are having similar experiences. Do better Navy Federal. Thumbs down!Review fromRonald B

5 starsI would like to thank Navy Federal Credit Union on giving my wife and I a VA home mortgage recently. We have read several of the reviews that were not so positive; so, we felt we must share our very positive experience we have had with NFCU. When mortgage rates are at an all-time high, NFCU was able to beat everyone else by miles on our rate. The process was tough, however, fair and smooth as long as we delivered them with the required information that was requested in a timely manner. We applied and had our mortgage closed in 42 days. With that said, we became members of NFCU the very day we applied for our loan. We would have closed sooner but we had to wait on the buyer of our current home which stalled the process on our end because their lender was slow. Navy Federal worked with my family when all of our local banks and lenders treated us with disrespect and disregard. Nothing but good things to say thus far about NFCU. We are in the process of moving all of our liquid assets over to NFCU by the end of the year as no other organization has bothered to treat us with such respect and humanity where we are from. Navy Federal treated my wife and I like we were human and like we mattered. Thats hard to find where we are from. Thanks Navy Federal.Review fromChris R

1 starThey were great for 2 years then started stealing money. Yes STEALING MONEY. You’d think I’m over exaggerating but for a year I complained about how money would be missing, navy federal explained that “the merchant would hold onto the money for several days before pulling from my account” ok makes sense but something didn’t feel right. I opened another bank account deposited my check there then decided to test navy federal with just $30, nothing pending or soon to be pending. I spent $30 at a store check my banking app right after the purchase and the money was gone cleared and at a 0.00 balance four days later I’m -30 for the same transaction. Went and called and was told as stated above “merchants hold on to the money for a few days” clearly being charged twice for the same trans action not to mention they charge you insane return fees of $29. Last month they got me for $80 then this month after paying my credit card and my credit card showing posted and cleared navy federal returns it at the 8 day mark and out of no where I’m paying 116 the next month. I’m shutting my account down and moving to a different bank. Please hear me out I don’t write reviews for anything but if your active duty take your money somewhere els I promise you they stole from me and do absolutely nothing or care I tried to find anything I would or could of been doing wrong and I had nothing it’s the bank itself I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone els id rather share this experience with others and hope they listen and do get robbed of their own money by a greedy bank that’s for themselves not the soldiersReview fromPatricia B.

1 starI have had an account with Navy Federal Credit Union for years, as has my husband and daughter, my husband also has credit cards through them. We do not have a branch where we live (the closest is over an hour away) but this has not been an issue because we have been able to use the Mobile App for almost everything and they have ATM’s at most ******. Recently they changed their deposit guidelines, allowing them to hold your funds for a ridiculous amount of time. After receiving notice of this I called their 24 hour resource number to see exactly how this would affect me. Their employee assured me that because I used the Mobile App I would NOT be affected by this change. I would have opened an account elsewhere had they told me it would. Yesterday I deposited my paycheck as I have every two weeks for the last 15 months, expecting my funds to be available this morning. However not only were they NOT they are being held for 5 days!! I cannot pay my bills, several that are due NOW. I have to call and beg my creditors to wait and not affect my credit or disconnect my power. This is not right! They should not be able to hold MY money for such an extended period. I will be closing my account as soon as I have access to my money and finding a new financial institution. I urge you to avoid this one at all costs!!Review fromRyan R

1 starMust Read! WHOSE MONEY IS IT?
Anytime a financial institution tells you that you can not spend the money that is yours, they are not interested in you as a customer. Regardless if it is spam or fraud, it's my money to do with what I want, and I don't need your permission and the federal government cannot infringe upon those rights either.
We ask you to hold our money, not tell us how much we can spend or what we can buy, in your words "we cannot verify that it's not a scam", well! When we call how do we verify who you are and what possible ties to criminal organizations as well as your credit worthiness. But yet we have to give ALL OF OUR PII just to discuss a problem. Phone calls can be rerouted to outside lines also.
If you enjoy A FINANCIAL INSTITUTION TELLING YOU HOW TO SPEND YOUR MONEY, JUST PICK ONE THAT CLAIMS TO BE FOR SERVICE MEMBERS
